This was easy, just make sure you clear the old broken off gear teeth before you install the new gears

Kind of blows my mind that a vehicle which costs almost $1k doesn't have metal gears in the servo. Silver lining: Metal soundtrack in the background is killer! 😉

agree.. love my xmaxx but couldn't believe it came with this servo. If only I watched this a week ago, already ordered a new metal gear servo ($100 😠). Guess I'll get the metal gear set and keep the old one as a spare.

Man I just got mine yesterday. Took it out today and first charge the servo gears stripped. SOB!! Yes they should be metal out of the box for that amount of money! Traxxas is going to hear about it tomorrow! Great Video! With all that said she is a beast and a lot of fun!!

my servo gears striped the 2nd time out. Replaced them with Metat gears. So Far great.

Agree that it should come with the 2085X! I still use stock servo, but with 2085X servo saver spring and link. Stock spring is very soft, get a lot more out of the stock servo with the stiffer spring. Still haven't broken the plastic gears, but I have the 2085X metal gears just in case...

I replaced mine with all metal gears. I used the #2087X gears set to replace the plastic gears with metal ones. I also bought the upgraded 2085X and a mount from Traxxas to use a 1/10 servo in the X-Maxx.

Ran at least 20 packs through mine, stock servo worked perfect and it took some hard hits. I did replace the plastic gears with the 2087x gears, only because I like to tinker. Now what to do next? Maybe a lipo conversion for the transmitter!

Why in the heck would they use plastic gears in a big servo like this one in a BIG truck? Replace the servo with an all metal gear servo.......

Yeah make sure you lube your shaft. I've used spit in a bind.

my servo looks all good and when i took it apart, all the gears were fine. Is it ok that it smells bad? like molded fish? when i finish my turn on my xmaxx and i accelerate, my wheels giggle and then become straight...is it normal? And when i turn my wheels and then stop turning then (without touching the throttle) my servo is making a weird sound like greeeeeeeeee but when i turn a little bit the other way, it stops.

Well buddy I’m not sure what molded fish smells like but it’s possible the control board inside is burning up.

My servo is being super weird on my xmaxx. Sometimes it works fine and other times u can turn the remote wheel and the wheels won't move but if I grab the tires and try to turn them u can feel power in the servo holding the wheels straight. Tried different receivers with no luck. If I pick the back of the truck up and shake it then some times the servo starts working fine again. Tried turning off tsm as well. Any ideas what it could be? Maybe just servo motor going out? Worked a little better when I added a glitch buster or I feel like it did lol

That’s odd, never had that one happen with mine. You’ve done the obvious with receivers and checked the right things so it could be the servo.

@@ExocagedRC I know its not the remote because I use it on 4 other cars too. Must be a bad servo. Took it out yesterday and ran it fine for a bit then slammed the curb because the servo quit lol luckily it just broke my wore out front skid

Just curious, why did you put plastic gears back in it instead of the metal gears?

These were warranty gears from Traxxas. They are holding good now.

Does anybody knows why my servo motor is keep spinning without stopping once I turn XMAXX on? I tried to replace gears on my servo but once I open it and plug back to the XMAXX shaft on a servo is just keep spinning. Thank you

Fix it 😁😁, I just had to put everything back together in right order and no spinning anymore 😁. I tought motor by itself won't spin freely but it seems like it does, just the gears later on keeping motor and shaft in place.

Because Traxxas tried to suck every dollar they can from you charge more than any other rc then use the cheapest parts so you have to buy their upgrade parts that are super expensive.

Traxxas #2087 metal gears work in the 2085 and 2085x. i rep[laced mine with the metal gears.

Changing the gears do not inhance the torque. Even with new metal gears the wheels still don't turn. Servo is junk right from traxxas

I don't think they messed with the ratio so your right on that, but it can handle more torque from a hit. These servos tested out at about 460oz on my tester but they are slow.
