Good side by side comparison video.. did a heavier wt oil in my slash that I don't jump so much. But think stock is about right for my type of driving in the xmaxx. Thank you for this video. It helped me decide which way to go on the xmaxx ..
@sofghost6663
@sofghost6663 4 года назад
50 is about perfect for the xmaxx. 80 is too thick and doesn't allow the shock to rebound fast enough. Also on bumps its too stiff and causes the front to bounce up in the air rather than absorb the bumps/impacts

Definitely a good comparison. I know it makes a huge difference in a crawler but wasn't too sure about a basher. I don't own an X-Maxx and don't really have a desire to get on to be honest, but I do have Losi's version in the form of the LST 3XLE. I put stiffer springs on it and left the shock oil stock. Pretty sure stock oil is 50w but don't quote me on that. It jumps really good and when I do a drop test I get just enough rebound to return it to ride height without springing up off the ground. I found out yesterday that the 3XLE will do a standing backflip with only the front diff oil changed to 500k. It might have been able to do the same before hand but I tend not to try backflips all that much. Only time I really do a backflip or a front flip is if I have to to keep from landing on my lid. My RC buddy does have a X-Maxx and he has I think 50w front and 60w rear in the shocks with heavier springs. He's been working on eliminating chassis slap but I'm not sure the X-Maxx shocks have the volume to make that happen. The shocks on my 3X are a lot thicker, but shorter overall. Heck, my 3X shocks are a little thicker than what is on my Super Rock Rey and my SRR is about 6 pounds heavier. I may one day get a X-Maxx, but probably won't be for a while. I've got to get a XO-1, Sonicwake, and a 5T first. Lol. Little over $2k in RCs just in those 3 RCs. After watching your video, I think you need thicker center diff fluid and selectable lockers for your crawling 😜

Off subject but i seen you have the monster mamba x. I recently got one with the 1250kv 1717 motor for my x-maxx. My gearing is currently m1 20/50. Should i be running different gearing or go to the m1.5? Also i seen in another video of yours where you glued that stock heat sensor wire to the castle motor. I didn't add mine to the mamba x esc and it seems to run fine. Do i have to run that sensor for any reason? I know gearing can be like asking someone what the best oil for their car is lol im just hoping to save by not having to buy a bunch of gears. Id like the 1.5's cause they seem hard to break but i have seen like 30/35 and stuff and im trying to learn the difference. I haven't seen anyone using the 1250kv. Mostly 800 and 1100.

Any idea what springs your running? I bumped my weight from whatever was in it (got it used) to 60wt losi all around. As best as I can tell, it has 7766 (no stripe/natural) springs on the front and for certain 7866 (blue) on the rear. I'm about to bump it to dynamite 1000cst (80wt), put the blue springs on the front and black strip on the rear. Hoping it helps it take the bigger jumps a bit better (8+ feet up).

I think to my opinion going to a heavier weight shock oil does help make a difference in dampening the suspension from bottoming out on high heavy jumps other than that as for all the other driving samples you done in the video doesn't really make a difference. Xmaxx trucks would benefit even more that are heavier with aluminum upgrades.

80wt for a stock x-maxx is way too thick. But when you have an upgraded x-maxx, with added weight of the hobbywing max5 and the 800 or 1100KV motors and mod1.5 gears, lets say, You really want to move up to 80wt shockoil, combined with the stiffer x-maxx springs.

When you set up your suspension, you have a certain amount of travel and you should set it up such that you will use all of that travel on the most extreme of jumps. I see too many people throw in heavy shock oils in the car because they don't want to bottom out, ever. And that's wrong. However, putting 80 weight oil in add stress to other components and affects how the chassis handles, and unless you're doing 30+ feet jumps, you'll find that a heavy oil like this is entirely unnecessary.
