This is my detailed walkthrough of the XO DFNDR 9 a boat which has all the power and grunt of the DFNDR 8 but some additional comforts and very sensible features added to make it more of a boat you can take your girlfriend out on or even do some 'work from boat' days with adequate protection for you and your laptop.

But it's main focus is being that boat which gets you to your destination fast, dry and in one of the coolest and most unique machines on the market today!
Fun and good emotions are what this boat is all about.

Great videos Dan, love the split of walk around and test drive. I watch loads of boat reviews and yours are some of the best. Aquaholic had less than 5k subscribers for years before jumping to half a million. That will be you I’m certain. Great to have you in NZ!

Thanks for the very kind comment Adam! I watch and enjoy Nick from Aquaholic's channel - i think he's doing great things. I already have a full time job so I think i'd be a bit overwhelemed if this grew like Aquaholic lol..!! I guess that would be a good problem to have one day though. Thanks again and i absolutely loved NZ and want to get back asap! Wait till you see my videos from the lake in Christchurch...holy moly it's beautiful there!

Dan, do you come across many/any of these style day boats fitted with gyros? XO, axopar, saxdor etc - I'd seen sth about axopar testing a seakeeper, but do they ever get optioned in your experience, and are any of these brands better/worse suited to accommodating one (aside from the seakeeper: total boat value maths)? (v easily seasick wife problems). Love the channel, keep it up mate!
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife 2 года назад
Quick answer is never. I have seen some of the Yanks doing it but the gyros i see in Aus are always American centre consoles which are considerably bigger on volume. Couple of reasons why you don't see it on XO, Axo, Saxdor is basically you don't really need it because the inherent low centre of gravity makes all of these styles pretty stable. Also you are lacking the volume and also the power supply on most of those styles of boats without resorting to some decent customization. I do understand some people want to head offshore and drift or that their favourite anchorage might be a bit exposed so they see a gyro as the answer and this is often true. So if that is very important to you i would just buy an American boat that comes with a gyro like the Regal 38SAV (as tested on Dans Boat Life) or similar. Final point - the XO, Axo, Saxdor style boat widens your area of operations by allowing you to travel faster through conditions most boats will find uncomfortable. So don't limit yourself to places you've only visited on other boats because you might discover a whole new set of options to explore... and don't forget these style of boats will land you on a beach relatively easily which is also pretty cool. Thanks for the support!

I’m debating between the XO DFNDR 9 and Axopar 28 Cabin with twin 200s. In your opinion which has the best build quality? Which one handles rougher water better? Thanks for the great videos.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife 8 месяцев назад
So the XO has the better build quality but the Axopar has a more refined ride. The XO will still handle the rough water lke a champ but the Axopar will be more enjoyable to drive. You need to think deeply about the exact mission you have in mind for the boat as the deck space and layout of each boat also has different pro's and con's. Depending on the usage you may also want to consider the Nimbus C9
@johnathanford2222
@johnathanford2222 2 года назад
How does this compare to the Saxdor 320 GTO. The XO looks down on style, space and is no more capable?
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife 2 года назад
Very different the XO is a smaller boat so i would not actually compare the two. Styling is a personal choice i guess and i think they both look cool for the different audiences they are targeting. I see the Saxdor as more a boat for high speed, choppy water runs with larger groups. More designed for socalising onboard the boat. Where as i see the XO looks like it is more focused on getting to remote locations and participating in different sports or activities both on and off the boat. This DFNDR 9 allows you to be comfortable with a partner and take occasional guests but the primary role is still adventures like landing the boat on a beach somewhere or exploring a remote river from your expedition yacht etc, etc

Love your test videos. I put a lot of stock in your opinion. I am trying to decide between an Axopar 28 aft cabin and this XO 9 Def. Thoughts? Price difference aside which would you recommend based primarily on performance and quality? Axopar seemed a bit quieter and smoother, more refined at speed. Am I wrong? The XO seemed to have better helm. I have any input you could give would be greatly appreciated. Going to use the boat for day trips and 50 to 60 mi trips across the ocean to Bimini
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Год назад
Hey Ken, so there are a lot of variables to be honest so it’s hard to just recommend on boat over the other without knowing more about you. However as a general statement the Axopar is going to feel more refined underway and quieter and the XO is built tougher so will be more suitable to activities where the boat will take a hammering. I’m going to start offering personalised advise over on my Patreon account due to the high volume of people reaching out with questions so happy to chat more over there. Good luck, both are awesome boats and I can think of a couple more that should be on that list.

Dan, yes, I am a "man on a mission" and instruct good guys how to kill bad guys in the dark. If you had to choose between the capabilities, or if it were the zombie apocalypse, would you chose the XO, or the Rafnar? G'day Thomas! Wow both excellent boats so difficult to answer without knowing more about you as they both have their unipue points. The Rafnar is a bigger boat than the XO so the price points will be very different. Yes do please let the manufacturers know as it helps me get access to more boats to test for you guys! Due to the volume of requests I'm starting to offer more personalised purchasing advise over on my Patreon page so if you are stuck for advise we can set up an email exchage in the future.

How do you think this hull compares to the Axopar 29's?
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife 4 дня назад
XO is a solid, rugged hull with good wave piercing ability. Compared to a stepped hull it will be a little more thirsty on fuel and won't run as flat but in many cases most operators won't notice the difference. The XO build quality will be better but you also need to ask yourself what you are planning to do with your next boat as this will lead you to the answer on XO vs Axo oe Quarken, Saxdor, Nimbus etc, etc
