I’m only 24, I’ve heard of this plane but I NEVER expected to see one fly in my lifetime or ever. This is beautiful, my walls are plastered with old war birds and the XP-82 is my absolute favorite, I’m beyond happy to see this at 23 years old, I can’t imagine anything better. My heart belongs to the sky but I’m indefinitely grounded and I yearn to feel the freedom and chase after the sun.

@@finkamain1621 There are no airworthy F-14s in private hands because the US government takes destructive steps to prevent the smuggling of parts to Iran's F-14s. Even if F-14s were available, it would take considerable amounts of money to maintain and fly such a complicated and thirsty bird.

@warrenchambers4819
@warrenchambers4819 3 месяца назад
@@guaporeturns9472 It has flight controls in both cockpits. With the success of the P-51 as an escort fighter the F-82 was designed with longer range and endurance in mind, if 1 is good 2's better right? In reality the P-51 and P-82 share very few parts. I think around 4 or 5 parts are interchangeable all the rest are slightly different. They look very much alike but both are 2 entirely different aircraft.

Sitting today with my old buddy Ed Larson watching p51 videos today and we found this masterpiece he had never seen before . He enlisted with a waver at 17 right after Perl Harbor and at 19 was teaching new recruits to fly in the T-6. He flew B24 over the Burma to China route hauling fuel and munitions for the rest of the war. Last year he got his wish of a lifetime and was given a flight in the P-51 at the Planes Of Fame Airshow in Chino Courtesy of friend and pilot Dave Presta and flown by Tom Nightingale 95 and still loving the war birds he spent his youth in. Thanks to all the remaining heroes who risked everything to make the world a safer place for sanity to prevail.

Fortunately there’s another P-82 in the process of being restored to flying condition. Over ten years ago I visited the owner of another P-82 with my dad and brothers with a cousin of ours that works for the owner. They were in the early stages of restoration and were setting up machines of some sort to reproduce some of the parts that were impossible to source. It’s mind-blowing how much time and money goes into restoring such a rare airplane like that. I had never until then seen or heard of a twin mustang so I was blown away by seeing this strange thing in person, even though there wasn’t much other than a couple disconnected fuselages at the time. I’m not sure what the current progress of the restoration is, but after seeing this video I looked up this one and it is definitely not the same owner as the one I saw back then. Here’s to hoping the one I saw gets restored soon and we can see another P-82 fly into Oshkosh.
