When I got my 15.6 Pro I had some issues with the pen selecting things even if I was not touching the canvas. I was getting positive pressure at about 5mm that would decrease to 0 when I was lightly touching the canvas then going back up as I pressed. The solution to this was to remove that pen nib and replace it with a new one, I guess something shifted in shipping. Once the new nib was in the pen worked fantastically, I didn't have to alter any settings. I don't know if this will help with your pen issue but it's worth a shot!
Thanks, it's the first thing I tried but no luck :( Now that you're saying this helped you though, I think I'll go back and try a third one just in case. Anyways I let xp-pen know so hope they can do something if that doesn't solve it for me.
This fix didn't work for me but I contacted XP-Pen customer support and they just sent me a new pen. Surprised me when it arrived in 3 days. All good now.
I have the chance to buy this one 15.6 $320 vs. 22R PRO $470, this would be my first display tablet. I've been drawing in a Intuos medium (2014-date) What do you recomend? I live in Argentina and this are very expensive products here.
@@digitalnomad6286 did u ever make a decision? On their site it seemed the 22 wasn’t a laminated screen. I’m thinking of going for this just because of that
I want this. My hand-eye coordination is pretty bad, and i currently use a small wacom intuos. This would honestly be a massive quality of life improvement
I’ve used a intuos for 4+ years and had a major disconnect with eye coordination. After switching to a screen tablet noticed it was night and day for speed and accuracy. I would save for one.
@@OrangeDragonofDusk I think you are right. I am 3d artist and I use tablet (intuos 3) for sculpting and its ok. but if I try to draw in 2d my lines and overall coordination are just terrible! (but I can draw straight lines in any direction with a pencil and paper) so yeah I guess this is really important to have a screener in order to progress in 2d art!
Sameee, well I have the small version of the Intuos Art with 1024 lvls of pressure sensitivity. I think its time to retire her, been using it since 2015. The Xp Pen Artist 15.6 is what I had my eyes on 👀
Your reaction to the dust was priceless xD I honestly prefer the hotkeys on the tablet since I use them a lot. I also use the right click of the pen, that's why I always need more pens :P It's always nice to watch your reviews ^^
XP-Pen is no joke! I own a Deco 03 and it has been my trusty tablet for years. Marc you are my hero for reviewing this tablet- and doing a giveaway! Goodluck everyone, may the odds be ever in your favour
I love XP-Pen tablets because they're so affordable! I got bought my first drawing tablet by them and now I'm really hoping I could win a display tablet that would be a DREAM!!
Any of you guys have this tablet and noticed the same pressure issue when clicking on things? Any fix?? Also, looking forward to see what you guys think of this tablet! I have an XP-Pen Deco 01 and I have noticed the same issue with the pen having a hard time registering if you don't press hard enough. You kinda get used to it over time, and I don't know if there's any fixes for that currently, other than training yourself to just press a bit harder. But other than that even though my tablet is small it performs great and has an absolutely beautiful design, and is my baby. Being my first XP-Pen product, it really impressed me. The pen being a bit unruly at first is really not that important to me, because it has so many pros to outweigh that con.
I have the artist 15.6 pro and in my case, changing the Pen Pressure Sensitivity in the drivers to a softer/lesser curve was the solution to the "hard to click" issue that you have.
Thanks for the giveaway. btw, the Instagram link you have on thise pinned comment doesn't work. The one in the description, however, does. Just letting everyone know.
@@cartoon80s90s Thanks for that. :) I always wondered though - how does it work when your IG username isn't the same as your YT name, with respect to the giveaway organizer checking that you have followed on both?
I use this tablet for photo editing and I am completely happy with it. I have not had any problems with pen detection. It connects to the computer with one cable so portable. I did buy a different stand as the angle of the provided stand is too shallow for me. The buttons and scroll wheel can be individually configured for different apps and the price was excellent. I would recommend it.
I've had my eyes on xp-Pen ever since i started going digital and just like u said i feels like its a no brainer for someone that really doesnt care about the brands and isnt bothered by the little/minor issues it has comparably to its competitors. Good thing there's always someone like you to get us a great review on these items ^^
Hi Marc. It´s great to see your review on XP. I hope i can get it since i can´t afford to buy a tablet. It would be a huge boost for my art. Good Luck to everyone.
My Small Tablet Review: Edit: I’ve explained further, updated and changed some of what I said based on kind folk that corrected me. Sorry for any misunderstanding I may have caused. Yo, I bought an Artist 15.6 when it was on sale on Christmas (that started around November for some reason). I've been drawing on it since then, and I have a few things to add. 1. I have the same issue that Marc does in which you have to press hard sometimes to select tools and such. Also sometimes the tablet stopped recognizing pressure sensitivity all together, but taking the pen away from the screen and putting it back on seemed to fix it. Edit: Xp-pen regularly updates their drivers so this issue might have already been fixed or will be fixed in the future... hopefully. 2. If you're worried about back problems. Don't get this tablet. The stand that it comes with only has one angle, and (at least to my knowledge) you can't get an ergo arm for it. You could use books and stuff to play with the angle, but that's just too inconvenient in my opinion (yes, I'm that lazy). Edit: You can buy a stand with more angles. Also take breaks every hour or so. I still think an ergo arm would be superior, I have come to hate looking down, but that’s just me. 3. The tablet comes with a paper like feel, but after a month or so you'll completely lose that feel and its back to full on surfing on a glass screen. 4. It seemed like the paper like texture that was applied to it protected it from scratches somehow, because after 2 months the screen began to scratch. Some of the scratches can be seen when the screen is on with a bright color, and the scratches can definitely be felt. If you already bought the tablet, I recommend wiping it and the pen every time you begin a drawing session, this will only postpone the inevitable though. Edit: As I said, wipe the tablet before starting, the screen will thank you and it’ll last longer. You can also buy a screen-protector for it. The tablet actually comes with a screen protector, so it seems that what I scratched was the screen protector and not the actual screen. (I feel dumb now) 5. The 60 angle pen tilt recognition is pretty bad. When you tilt it, the cursor and the pen start to get misaligned, in other words, the cursor does not stay on the pen tip, effectively making the pen tilt useless. To my knowledge, you can't turn this off so, if you're suddenly going to draw at a more comfortable angle in the middle of a drawing, expect the cursor to move a bit. Edit: I was a bit too critical on the pen tilt, it’s not horrible but in my opinion I don’t like it, the driver updates have still not fixed it. Nonetheless, I got around this issue by following the cursor while drawing and not the pen-nib. 6. I don't like the cable that connects to the tablet. The cable just sticks out, almost daring to have a hand accidentally bend it. The cable also slides off with enough force, so, if you accidentally push it a bit, the screen is gonna shut off. Closing: If you're poor (like me) and you want to draw on a screen, I think this tablet will be the best bang for your buck, as I did some research on the other tablets, and they seemed to have the same issues, even wacom for some people. I tried the Huion Kamvas pro 16 for a month (a competitor to the Artist 15.6) and it seemed to have the same issues, minus 1. I didn't do a tilt support test so I don't know about 5. All in all, if I could go back in time, I would just buy a Intuos pro. I'd draw the sketch on paper and do line art and color on the Intuos. Edit: I’d still buy a graphics tablet if I’m on a budget due to back issues, and preferring to look straight rather than down. Hope this helped.
thank you for this. i know spec wise these competitor is head to head or even better, but usually problem arises after some time of usage. just like chinese brand clone phones. and you confirmed this :)
@@bisnoln Yeah, the experience is not horrible though. You can definitely do professional art on it, it'll just be annoying having to undo all the time. In my case, I don't see myself drawing on it anymore now that I'm drawing on glass. It's not like they can't upgrade it either. Every issue I listed can be fixed. But I suppose that wouldn't be good for business as people won't be buying the new models...
I've had it for a 6 months and like it. I had a Huion 18.5 HD display that died just previously, so after seeing some reviews I bought this one. The only bad thing was the latest driver when I installed it last year was it would randomly select the eraser tool in several graphics programs, so i rolled back the driver to a previous one and didn't have the problem. I should try a newer one now.
I really want to try this tablet! Thanks You so mucho for the Review. I really like the stall and accesorios that come with the tablet. Sorry for My Bad English
For a student like me it's no so afortable to be buying tablets. So I have to be really careful to choose and avoid buying one way to expensive and not be worth it. This review it's preatty helpful and truly appreciate honesty and from a review from a professional like you, it really helps!
I have one and I love it! The only thing that I don't like is the nibs. They are made with a type of hard plastic. So if you're heavy-handed like I am, the plastic wears down on one side and makes a sharpish tip (like sharpening a pencil with sandpaper) and I ended up scratching the pre-installed screen protector. I still haven't seen anyone remove the pre-installed protector or found documentation exampling how to do it (just in case there's something I should be careful about) so I'm pretty nervous to remove it. But, besides that, I recommend it if you want to jump into using a display tablet but don't want to shell out a ~thousand+ for wacom
Also, I just got my first job with my art, requiring to do multiple small digital illustrations. So this tablet would be a great update for my workflow and would make things so much easier and more convenient!
Just adjust your pressure curve in the settings. If your light touches to select brushes and so forth isn't recognised, your touch was just too light and below the pressure range to be detected as a deliberate press and not some accidental hit.
Wooooow 2 giveaways in a row, Marc you're awesome! As always a great review video, looking forward to seeing more content! Much love from the Netherlands
I bought this one a few months ago. It's my first display tablet, so I can't really compare it to anything but so far I am very pleased with it. I did have a few issues with the drivers like crashes, where I had to restart my whole PC but it doesn't happen often. I heard people complaining about XP-Pen's customer support but I actually did have to contact them once (it was because of faulty USB drive on my PC, not the tablet) and they responded within a day. I agree that sometimes when you just click with the pen, it doesn't register and you have to click 2 or 3 times, but if you click and drag (like when you draw) there's no problem at all. Also, the parallax is more noticeable at the edges of the screen but it's not that big of a deal.
@@torimonet8402 It's holding surprisingly well and I am still using it. There is the occasional crashing of the drive but this happens very rarely. I can't even remember the last time the pen became unresponsive. The biggest problem I have with the tablet is the color accuracy. If you plan to print your work I suggest to invest in color calibration. Other than that this is a fantastic tablet for the price and I am very pleased with it. I would replace it only for a one with a bigger screen or if it stops working altogether.
@@Martin5rof thanks for the update! My question is if u replaced it for bigger, would it be with xp-pen? The reason I ask is because I do really like xp-pen, but the one I’ve been using (Artist 12) turned completely green within months. I just wanted to know if u ever had any issues like that
@@torimonet8402 No, never had any issues like you're describing. When I purchased my tablet there weren't a lot of budget screen tablets. Now there are a few so you should research which one has the best reviews but so far I am happy with my Xp-Pen.
Thank you for reviewing this tablet I definitely see pros and cons but I think for the price it's so hard to see the cons! But thank you for this giveaway and good luck to everyone! 💐
just had the worst issue with huion customer service, so I'm switching tablets... thank you for this really well made in-depth review! I was able to follow easily from beginning to end, usually I skip everything cause it seems boring lol but this time everything was super interesting :)
I have been dying to buy this tablet since its release but never was able to afford it ;-; I have made so many story boards for the animations I want to do once I have it. I aspire to finally make art professionally after practicing for the past 7 years and this tablet would definitely kickstart my career!
I've been eyeing the xp-pen displays for a while now. I feel like a display would make improving my line quality a bit more intuitive when using digital. Anyway thanks for this opportunity, Marc. Montreal says hi lol. Btw my instagram is @icarus_lion
Considering the price differential, I'd say this display tablet makes a very respectable showing against the far, far more expensive Cintiq. CIntiqs are awesome, I've have a chance to test them out, but with the exchange rate in my country (South Africa), the cost is prohibitive, and times are tough for many. It's great to see the market produce viable alternatives for struggling artists 😉
I have this tablet and have had a pretty good experience with it. I haven't experienced the tablet not registering light taps so it may have been a local issue. Edit: I basically chose this tablet off of the ratio of positive and negative reviews compared to other mid-range tablets, and this one was above and beyond superior to all others that I could find
@@dareptor2620 What's wrong with that? It doesn't make it any less great. And honestly, for most people there is no NEED to drop 2Gs on a Cintiq, and most people can't afford that anyway. It's a luxury, and a nice one sure, but the quality of life isn't /so/ different that you should feel like you're heavily missing out if you don't have it. I've used screen tablets, standard tablets and Cintiqs all for professional work. They all have their pros and cons, but for the most part, between screen tablets there isn't /that/ much of a difference, experience wise, so it's all down to preference, affordability and availability. I personally like a screen tablet like this which is big enough, but not /that/ big that it takes up so much space ( which a Cintiq does ) by my computer. People get Cintiq's since their industry standard for professionals, and have been for a while and there were no other choices, but the game is changing and there are comparable products with similar quality for a fraction of the price. [ Since you're paying for the brand, for the most part, with a Wacom ] .
I'd love to finally use a display and not just a Wacom Intuos. I love it, it's my old baby, but as an Illustrator student I might need something more professional...
first tablet i got was a generic one with a battery powered stylus. Then i upgraded to XP Pen. Feel in love with their stuff ever since. I currently have a Star06. Will upgrade to this in a year or so.
Wish to have one, because I have been drawing on wacom bamboo for 10 years and it has all kind of damages on it. But I dont have friends to tag. Thanks for this video.
Hey !
I remember contemplating getting a Pro a few years back but I didn't like the battery operated stylus. Glad that they've done away with it.. (and if they haven't and I just missed that part of the review then I apologize lol. Have this playing in the BG while I'm working.). I got the regular 15.6 from XP Pen but it's a few years old so I may do an upgrade and sell the old one
I really want this drawing tablet, I've been wishing for this for years but im having a hard time saving up for this since my income is really low. I used to animate alot (with a computer mouse) and now I want to get back to it and do it properly! PLEASE!
my main issue here is Photoshop. if u consider u need a subscription for that the price will keep going up forever, I run the ipad pro with procreate, and although Im sure this feels better in many ways Procreate is basically free.
13:30 Yes, It is one of its problem from their pen. I have the older pen which is the P05R that's better in clicking than the one you have PA2. I have the PA2 as well so I experienced the same problem.
I bought this tablet last year but had to return it because of the initial activation rate. I just could'nt get used to it. That's probably the biggest deal breaker for me. It's a great tablet and the price is amazing, don't get me wrong, but having to press down like that just isn't for me. I'm sticking with my Wacom Intuos 5 until something better comes along.
