I still have a rope seal at the front, and throwback at the rear. I don't fill the oil level above the minimum mark on the dipstick, and the engine does not leak oil (level is below throwback) and there is still a large volume for circulation. This seal modification is sold on the principle that owners want to fill their oil to the top mark. For adequate circulation, this is not required.

We peformed this operation in the vehicle because I was too stubborn to pull the engine out of the car. Worked perfectly first try! It did require a slight modification to the upper plate/retainer.
