So glad you think so. Really appreciate having you on board. Wheelsboy is the OG in this space, he's earned his followers. I need to do the same but I'll do it my way.
For you, what is compelling about this car? According to other channels there are "mechanically" better cars in China for the price. The USP is self driving capability, but it hasn't been proven yet in the M03 Mona?
@@Harrythehun Not sure what they mean by mechanically better cars for the price. XPeng says there are two other competitors, one is definitely the BAIC EU500, and that has lower specs than this and no self-driving. I used the self-driving on the highway and it was great in the time we used it, no issues at all. I wouldn't buy one myself I don't think, I don't really like the interior, but I'd take it over an EU500.
@@InsideChinaAutoXPeng is ramping export growth very well. This will certainly be the next export model once G6 exports get going. Aus RHD end of 2025 maybe?
I am truly amazed by this car. Unbelievable price/performance ratio. This video clearly shows, how rest of the world falls behind the competition when it comes to built affordable BEVs. Superb review, thank you!
@@InsideChinaAuto Stellantis is selling cars like Citroen e-C3, having literally no-screen and having one of the worst quality, with prices more than this. I wouldn't care about the Interior, to be honest. Cannot be worse than an e-C3. 😅
I believe it was Elon Musk who said "A task given X amount of time will take X time to complete", or something to that effect. Maybe a shorter time sharpens my focus. Haha.
impressed with Mona's ability to change the number of parking steps (during parallel parking) based on the situation. my wife is gonna love this - she only uses 2 steps I think !
Being very aerodynamic, it just slapped Ioniq 6 hard in the face that it doesn't need to sacrifice styling, which Ioniq 6 tried too hard to be distinctive and failed.
A super efficient car - very tesla-esque approach to gaining performance both on the road and charge speed (km per minute) benefitting. Looks great and i would look at it for sure. And it's a hatch. What is the rear vision like?
@@InsideChinaAuto cool. I have wondered if the Tesla and seal are sedans because they didn't want large cross members between the rear windscreen and the glass roof.
You're too kind. The ADAS for MONA is currently limited to only highway stuff, so ACC, LKA, etc, so as such it's a bit limited compared to some others that do urban autonomous driving too, but it's based on a good system already so at least should be pretty good at what it's capable of.
As a wheel chair owner - my young son uses one - I’m really intrigued by this car.. the luggage department has the same size as my xc60 which is insane! Almost no cars expect for big suvs and model s/x can take the wheel chair without dismantle it totally. 😅
Could definitely be of interest then. Not sure if you have other needs for legroom or accessibility to the rear it might not be so ideal. Rear space is a little tight. You'd have no issues with a GAC AION Y or the upcoming Zeekr MIX but I guess you fancy something a bit sleek.
Thanks, I like how the car looks, and the “hatch back” design seems a good idea. A good car for people who like sporty looking hatch backs! In your reviews, is it feasible to assess the vehicle’s energy efficiency? Personally, I’m more interested in a car’s energy efficiency than how quickly it sprints or how much power it has.
Sure, in my full videos I give my real world achievement figures based on the driving I've done, but this one had very little time with the car so I mentioned at the start I won't be able to give the full details. Is that what you meant or did you have something else in mind?
Hi, I went through your video again, and you do mention efficiency. I somehow missed that section. Thanks. Such an efficient car, I hope they plan to sell in Malaysia next year!
These vehicles are no doubt very impressive but the cost right now of insuring them in the West is prohibitive. These vehicles will only be successful if built in western countries. Good review 👍
There's no mention of Dolby Atmos in the information we have I'm afraid. RU-vid would only be offered if this car went abroad but I highly doubt it will.
It is definitely one of the best bargains for under $18K. Many will now think about switching to EVs because they are cheaper to buy than ICE & much cheaper to run. Over the next 3 to 4 years, many will be buying up 2nd hand models for $10k or less. This also highlights that legacy manufacturers have been making 12- 20% profit margins on their cars. How did Volkswagon find £100 billion to invest in Xpeng!? I expect China will be making their own processors very soon. The competition is heating up now. Teslas reign may be coming to end in China, primarily because the Chinese can build better. The only barrier for China & potential customers across the world is Western Govt cartels, eg, protectionism, who subjugate the concept of fair trade & free markets. Trade wars with China don't work.
Can only agree with all you said. Even without subsidies, which are a way to stimulate an industry and not exclusively used by China, you could charge twice as much for these cars and in many cases they'd still be cheaper and far better equipped than their European counterparts. Looking at the Li Auto L6 in China compared to a Mercedes-Benz GLE as an example. The comparison isn't even close and the Li is about 40% of the price.
I think it's aimed a bit lower because the price point means it's not quite as premium and the autonomous tech is not as advanced but it may still take sales from it.
Ah, that's the driver awareness sensor. I believe most cars are actually obligated to have these now in some markets, certainly more and more cars have them. They're meant to detect when the driver is not watching the road for a long time, in case you fall asleep or are too distracted by things. You can sometimes close them off or turn it off in the system.
Funnily enough, XPeng actually made no mention of FWD or RWD in their material they provided to us, though I did read somewhere it was FWD but forgot that during the filming.
It's kind of a sub-brand within the main brand. I know some brands make a whole new brand but XPeng haven't gone down that route with this one. It's almost like a model line but much cheaper than the main one.
Needs more technical discussion and less about the trinkets. Like that it’s a torsion beam rear and simple macpherson strut suspension and that it’s front wheel drive - what the torque steer like and how’s the handling compared to more sophisticated designs? Not jsut ride comfort, actual handling? Brakes? Regen and friction performance? I can drive a car, I couldn’t care less about self driving and parking gimmicks - I want to know how it actually drives.
Well if you listened to about the second line in the video, you'll have heard there was very limited time actually driving the car and not enough on a variety of roads, so those discussions will have to wait until a longer review. Anyone telling you they got a chance to try it out completely probably didn't do any real filming or is giving you info based on nothing.
@@InsideChinaAutoYou had time to faff around with gimmicks on the screen though? You never found a corner to put the boot and see if it torque steers? I know that most people care more about gadgets than the base engineering and what makes a car actually a car… It’s depressing. Anyway, I like the simple approach to engineering int be suspension if it’s tuned well - a torsion beam handles well in a Renault Megane sport for example!! If they made this in RHD and brought it to Australia I’d be keen - it’s a proper lift back, I quite like the styling and if they got the suspension tuning right it could be a good drive.
@froggy0162 Sadly no, there were no such corners available during the daylight hours. We went from the hotel to the static filming location directly, following a camera car to get some driving footage, just open dual carriageways there, then it was pretty much all highway and urban roads to the parking, by which point it was dark, so no. I could fiddle with the gimmicks on the boring road while the car pretty much drove itself, hence I covered what was available.
Given that there is only one commodity on earth, and that is time, I would definitely not use the autonomous parking, otherwise I would run out of life😂
It seems a lot of big factories hire out their facilities to smaller companies without their own staff. Didn't some European supercar company was in the talks in hiring out some factory space? From one of them very small nations without much of their own industry... But back to the car... Man, I wished there are more saloons in NZ, but people here are obsessed with ugly and stupid SUVs and pickup trucks.
Thanks for the video, good presentation. Bud sadly to see that this is again a 4-door sedan in a endless line of boring 4-door sedans, designed by braindead designers for the braindead masses. Cant they think of anything else than 4-door sedans and 4-door SUV's ?
I'm sure they can but nobody buys them. I'm with you though. Where's the creativity of a HiPhi X, HiPhi Z, Neta GT, MG Cyberster. We need more of those.
I think you're just seeing a T shape and thinking they're similar when the two light signatures are nothing alike. Remember that Polestar was basically a Volvo when it was born.
They'd actually nothing alike, and if you knew about how long designs are confirmed in advance of production you'd know there was no way they could have copied anyway.
so the muyu is xpeng’s answer to musk’s farting sounds. i guess, the paths to satori are many. still, if it makes you feel your ‘soul coming back’, you should be worried. in buddhism there is no soul.
@@networm78 Cheap here refers to the quality or lack of thereof. Or the general aesthetics. A single screen on a plastic bench? They say it's "minimalist". I say it's "cheap".
