Both of them. I keep juggling with the theory that Hans and his army of lawyers are robots inserted by aliens to prepare an invasion of the world, logically starting with the world of chess, perhaps to analyze our military prowess and skills at strategy and tactics. 👽Several times during the video his 'lawyer' clicks on buttons on his legs to switch programs or mute him. :P

All the lawyer needed to say was, " With your logic, if you've been drunk 2+ times in 4 years, then i guess you're an alcoholic."
@TheOmnipotence
@TheOmnipotence 10 месяцев назад
Piers Morgan would probably say something like "But you have to drink a lot of times to be considered an alcoholic but you would only have to cheat once to be considered a cheater, yes?"

Sorry, bad analogy. A more accurate one would be that he *claims* he only *relapsed* twice in his life. But depending on the relapse, judging him for it and staying passively suspicious can be warranted. Furthermore alcoholism is something that does not necessarily hurt other people, although it often does. But still, there are much better analogies, like cheating on a partner, embezzling money from your company, evading your taxes, beating up your partner or children. As he said, in the world of chess, cheating is the worst crime (I think?), so it's not like it's easy to just sweep under the carpet as if it meant he may 'just' have a bottle problem but only claims to have gone drunk twice in his life. It's more like he admitted to doing something really horrible twice, first for money professionally at age 12, then for ELO (ie fame, and by extension fortune, prestige, life opportunities, etc) at 16 in full awareness of how serious and dishonorable that is, and then we have to take his word (and his dubious half-assed apologies/justifications) for it that he never did it again and would never do it again... even though to him online games are meaningless and his sole goal seems to become the best chess player in the world: a goal that would incidentally be definitely easier to achieve by cheating successfully (just sayin).

they either have proof or dont. No one has proof he has ever cheated in a pro game, so it doesnt matter what your personal opinion is. Integrity matters for his long term career, but is absolutely irrelevant when discussing a legal case.

Common sense dictates that he didn’t just cheat TWICE. He got CAUGHT TWICE… he’s been cheating since 12 to fast track his ability to access more lucrative tournaments and events. I bet those games were not “meaningless” for the people whom he cheated. 🤔

Agreed, he claimed they were mistakes but frankly he seems at peace with what he's done: "I was young", "it was only a couple hundred bucks", "rated games online outside of tournaments are meaningless". He didn't explain what happened to make him realize cheating was evil. He keeps saying we must give him the benefit of the doubt but frankly his discourse isn't that of someone who has repented and is seeking forgiveness on the basis of that change of heart, it's that of someone who wants to be forgiven on principle and 'for free', because he simply doesn't wanna face the consequences of his past (and potentially present/future) actions. It's may I add a typical narcissistic/psychopathic trait to feel victimized by anyone holding any grudge against you no matter what you did to them regardless of whether you genuinely expressed sincere remorse for your past actions. Not to say the situation is not more complex here ofc, but his attitude, his reaction to the situation, is that of the classical gaslighting asshole who says you're the one ruining the relationship by not forgiving automatically any wrongdoing perpetrated in the past (which is every wrongdoing as soon as so much as an hour has gone by). Every day is a new them, they claim, even if they relapse time and again. But that's not an apology, that's a magical eraser, it's a fallacious attempt at making people feel guilty about reacting negatively to the shit you put them through and for which you're clearly not particularly sorry about.

@@plarysafeasibly there could be a couple of things. All he would need to know is when to study the position for key moves. At Super GM level what matters the most is knowing when to take your time in a sense, or when to search for important moves. At that level the big difference between Super GMS and stockfish (AI chessbots) is that humans are bound to make errors and miss practically non-human moves to see in games. Considering the time controls, Hans would just need a tip from someone or something to know when to truly study the position for certain types of move. I think the bigger issue is his explanation of why he did certain moves were quite lacking afterwords. Most GMs I have talked to have thought of it as quite fishy. Honestly, regardless of whether he cheated in that match or not, the fact that he's cheated at least twice over an online format should be reason enough to cast doubt on his OTB games.

Piers' take is kinda bad. Live chess is a sport, a competition with integrity where every game matters. Online chess is essentially just a video game

Cheating doesn't matter if it's a video game/online? League of Legends is also a video game but has a competitive field, does every game not matter there? The games Hans was caught cheating in online weren't random casual games, they were part of actual prize money events.
