If you have been around the channel for a while, you'll know that I have been a huge fan of the Xreal Air glasses for a while. But they are starting to get older and there are even newer versions and competition is stiffer than ever. So the question remains.. Are they still worth having or should you spend your money elsewhere?

Thanks for following up after a year! Too many RU-vidrs show products and love them at first, but after that they move on, never revealing what it’s like to live with a product for more than a few days. Thanks!

I have the Air glasses for almost 1 year now. I still love them. There are issues which I want corrected but overall I am still happy with them. I use them as TV/monitor glasses. I have no interest in the AR functions. I use them primarily in these scenarios: on airplanes and in hotels while traveling. I travel a lot in the military, I plug the glasses in while on cross ocean/country flights and watch stuff from my phone, laptop, steam deck etc. on them. It’s so much more comfortable than craning my neck looking down at a tiny phone screen for 12 hours. I just wish the screens were a little bigger, the glasses were lighter, and they didn’t require the beam to get smooth follow. I have the beam and it’s nice but I feel that processing should be done by the phone instead.

Thanks for sharing, couldn’t agree more. I generally use mine in the same way that you use yours except without the beam. Glad you’re generally enjoying the experience!

Just plugging in the glasses to a device only offers 130' inch screen. But, if you get the Xreal Beam you can manually adjust the screen up to 330' inches and also, Have 3 different modes of viewing. Body Anchor which allows you to lock the screen in front of you and it doesn't move, Smooth Follow which eliminates shaking screen from fast head movements, and Side View which allows you to put a small screen in the corner of your view. Great for working on a Car needing to watch a youtube video on how to fix it. 😉👌 The Xreal Beam is worth it. I bought a Xreal Air 2 Pro combo and it definitely helps. I believe these glasses are worth it.

Nice, thanks for adding this comment to the video! Glad you found the Nreal systems to be useful! I’ve definitely enjoyed having mine as well!

I heard that using the prescription lenses cut into the already limited FOV, has that been your experience? I am thinking of copping a pair but that gives me some pause.

Hey! I think it may be dependent on who you go with for your prescriptions. In my experience, I’ve not experienced any FOV limitation other than slightly fuzzy edges (but that is the case regardless of if you are using lenses or not). If you’d like to get a pair, check out the links in my description. You’ll get 10% off your prescription lenses through the VROptician and if you want blue blocking, you can also get that as an option. :)

Do you need the beam to change the screen size, or does the app do this too
@jackofmanytrades

I’m not sure about the android app. But the Mac app allows you to change screen size and position. Anything else, you’d probably need the beam. Though I don’t have one and can’t comment on how it works.

The blockers still come with the air 2's and is needed as they do not completely block the light, the pros go to about 95%. You can certainly see the difference when adding the blockers, even with the 2 pro's. That's why they are still included in the box. Main difference is now the front of the blockers look like normal sunglasses and not the matt finish of the air 1's. much nicer.

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification. Don’t have the pros so I wasn’t sure if they had blockers or not.

The Nebula app is a mandatory application to use it as an external screen? (Ex : Android device, windows ...) Because I see that this app is really not good.
@jackofmanytrades

Your terms need to be better defined. But I’ll answer the way I believe you’re asking the question: 1. If you would like to extend your displays or use multiple virtual monitors, you must use the nebula app. That app is only currently available for Mac OS and Android. IOS, Linux, and Windows still haven’t gotten nebula apps. 2. If you want to use the airs as an external monitor (mirroring your built-in display) this can be accomplished with anything. 3. If you want to extend your monitor with either an iPad, Mac, or Windows PC (and don’t need head tracking or multiple virtual monitors) you can set the mode to “extend” on your system settings. That would leave your built in display the same and add the Airs as an external monitor ( but that’s not so practical since you will be seeing the two monitors overlaid). Hopefully this helps.

@@jackofmanytradesOkay I see, thx a lot. I'm french, sorry for mistakes. But yeah, I just want to use it as an external monitor, so the list for the compatibility (on the website) with devices is only useful when we use the app right ?
@jackofmanytrades
@jackofmanytrades 3 месяца назад
@H.Pierre0 ah no problem! Yeah. So if you just want it as an external monitor; you can ignore the Nebula app. The nebula app is only for if you want to have head tracking and multi-virtual monitor support.

Yet another mac user that has a stable nebula app, one year on and still no windows app only buggy betas so if your a gamer on PC its not worth it. Sorry you cant compare gaming on a mac compared to a PC
@jackofmanytrades
@jackofmanytrades 2 месяца назад
I’m also a PC user and I’ve used these for gaming on PC. They give a great portable experience for PC users. If I’m being honest, I don’t think the nebula app is worth it unless you want to do productivity. For gaming, it’s completely pointless unless you can’t handle the screen being in a static position.
