Xrebirth v. 4.3 Reviewed 

Heya, Rand. Thanks for the watch, the comment, and the sub. Be warned about Rebirth, though....it can keep you busy for another couple years, if you go big enough on your conquests. I've kind of slowed down on it recently, been trying "The Outer Worlds" until I can't think straight. Thanks again, Rand.

Hiya, RebelOne! I was totally new to the X series when I started in on Rebirth. I think I spent about half an hour on each, and realized Rebirth was more challenging for me. The one thing that I found lacking was quick, clear explanations of what was going on. How to do stuff in game. The lore in the game is there, but like the rest of the game, it takes time to come out. Overall, if you like the look of Rebirth, I'd say go for it first. Playing a few hours in campaign mode should run you through enough in game tutorials to help you get comfortable. Besides, X Rebirth is pretty inexpensive. Just be prepared to devote a lot of time to it, if you want to see and do, it all. Thanks for the watch and the comment, RebelOne!

Thanks for the watch and the comment! As with any game series, I'd suggest you try any that might interest you, and decide if it's something you'd enjoy. That said, the most glaring difference in Rebirth is that we only get to drive ONE ship, which tended to divide X players opinions of the game. The ship can be highly modified as we progress in the game, though. The graphics in Rebirth are a bit dated, but still has it's own charm. I personally bought all the X games in a bundle (except X4), and only played a couple hours of each before diving into Rebirth. So I consider it the first of the series I've played enough to form an opinion. After a monitor, PC and graphics card update, Rebirth menus are too small for me to use anymore. So...I've moved on to X4, which is more map-based and focused on directing our fleets and stations. But don't misunderstand...X4 has some great stuff going on with missions and other diversions. I hope this helps a little. My review was my opinion, not a demand that you play Rebirth over any of the other X games.

@@tinpony9424 Yeah thanks. Every review I read said X3 and X Rebirth are very different, but they didn't say different how. Just about the only differences I found was that Rebirth is easier, with new UI, you still command fleets but now fly only one ship and building starbase takes more work as you need to go buy the materials. So it didn't sound very different to me. X Rebirth is newer and a lot more expensive as X3 is almost free now. So I was wondering why would anyone get X Rebirth then.

I'd suggest watching GOG, Humble, and Steam for a sale on the X games. Not sure if I remember exactly, but I think I paid something like $14 for Rebirth. I've seen lots of comments about X3 being the preferred game, but I haven't played it enough to recommend one over the other. Station building in Rebirth does take some groundwork getting trade relations with factions set up, but the Architects will take care of materials so we can go play other parts of the game. I'd be interested to hear about YOUR adventures in whichever game you decide to try. Please don't hesitate to let me know how it goes for you.

Other than npcs, I'd have to agree with you. I've started playing X4, since I got updated hardware. In 4K, Rebirth menus are TINY! Tried gpu and monitor settings, nothing seems to work. So, one more vid about station construction is probably going to finish Rebirth, for me.

Thanks for the feedback, xRxixcxhxtxexrx! Yes, there is quite a lot to discover and try in it, as long as you're not in a hurry to "beat" the game. TIP: If you play Campaign Mode, remember to save your game before you do new missions the co-pilot gives out. Eventually, she leads you to an area where you can't return right away, and you don't get to take your ships with you. This isn't much fun if you haven't finished what you wanted to accomplish in Albion first. Have fun with it, and let me know if there's anything I can help with.

Heya, anthony! I've been thinking about your "Rebirth DLC for X4" idea a little. So much potential there! ...Ren Otani shows up in the Skunk after exploring an anomaly, but can't abandon his boat for the new, shiny stuff. So, he does what he always does; he modifies the Skunk. Not just with the X4 upgrades, but also in a Borg way, expanding it's ability with equipment and hull parts he collects from captured ships and wrecks, eventually adding a teleport function to the Skunk, similar to what the X4 PHQ has. LOL....now, you got me wanting to see that expansion!

@@tinpony9424 I was thinking something like that as well, as in the rebirth story My impression of Ren was he was in search of antique ships as a hobby, he had a rich daddy, HAA! I got to use to the skunk I liked the ship, I was hoping one of the fans would make a MOD of the skunk for X4 That way i just pretend of Ren and his ol lady 'forget her name', I'm just a dreamer, HAA! have a good one,- peace

Without getting into game script mods , the only way I've found is to use windows to switch the primary mouse button to the right while you play the game, and switch back when you're done. That changes everything you do with the mouse buttons, though. Another option is to use a mouse side button, if your mouse has any. Fire at cursor can be mapped to a side button instead of the right mouse button. As long as you're new to the game, either of these might be easier to learn, instead of fighting your "fire reflex". Hope this helps.

@@tinpony9424 Thanks for your answer! I set firing to the side button already, it's ok, but confusing, because all other space games I fire with the left mouse and I target with the side button. I still prefer that, instead of switching the input via Windows. I've also looked into the documents folder of X Rebirth, but couldn't find a keybinding configuration file. You mentioned game script mods? Is there anything useful?

@@AdioAurel I haven't found any game mods that deal with the mouse firing button. Most of them are cosmetic, or change the way things happen in-game (fast missiles, sounds, buy trade agents, see npc skills, etc.). I always play games vanilla, so I'm not the best resource for reviewing mods. If you think about it, having the left mouse key fire weapons would pretty much exclude using it to target objects and possibly the point and click functions. That's why I suggested swapping the primary mouse keys in your OS. Keep in mind, this game is from 2013. Like you, I have other games that require me to relearn commands when I play them, and some don't allow remapping, or use the mouse to interact. Sorry there's no easy answer I can give, or quick fix available, but I hope it isn't a deal-breaker for you.

Heya, PuzzleFerret ! I have yet to get any VR hardware or VR versions of games. I've been waiting to see which manufacturer comes out on top. I'm old enough to remember the Betamax/VHS/Video Laser Disc times. Any suggestions?

@@tinpony9424 Oh I went with the Lenovo Explorer myself because it was cheap due to being out of production and also a display model :D It still has screen door effect, the view makes it feel like your playing through two loo rolls and the spot where its all clear is not huge. So I am not sure VR is there yet, but I do hear good things about more up to date ones. My pc also takes one look at these things and goes "Ha! yeah right" plus they give me motion sickness. Having said all that the games do look awesome and xrebirth on it... very tempting :D

I've recently upgraded to a pc that is able to handle VR in it's current state, and I've seen many glowing reviews about X Rebirth in VR. But I think I'd have to actually try the newer headsets to be comfortable settling for any one system in particular. Thanks for your honest and candid experiences with VR, AJPuzzleFerret.
