What he means by favorite, or so I assume, is that the concept is good vs multiple coverages. That could be 1 or 2 high zone beaters, as well as man beaters. Take double slants (mirrored, meaning the same concept is run on both sides) vs 2-Man. The DB's are aligned with an inside eye shade (b/c their help is deep & to the outside), so that's not the best play call, as JT mentioned. All in-breaking routes vs inside leverage is not really the play you want to be in.

Thanks for clarifying that Jet is a turnback protection. I know most viewers probably didn't catch that (nor did they probably care), but I'm really into details. There's a whole lot of misinformation out there, especially around Jet protection, so it was great to get a definitive answer. As always, great video!

Detroit / Seattle... That's probably what the D and S from your Packers notes meant ;)
@darkhobo
@darkhobo 4 года назад
I was thinking Deep / Strong. And hence the Open/Closed. Green bay doesn't play Seattle enough to take them into consideration at the play building level. Esp, not on a slant, which is going to be run vs everybody. If it was Chicago or Minnesota it would make more sense.

I like that you mention the Sluggo/slant - go concept. What are your thoughts on a flat and up/wheel route off of this concept? It seems like if number two has to carry the flat vertical this is a good match up. Seems like there might be a nice hole shot underneath a deep quarter/deep third defender with this double move.
@johnellwoodtaylor4769
@johnellwoodtaylor4769 2 года назад
Wheel routes are great! Slant/wheel, even curl/wheel! Don’t forget at the end of the game on a fourth and need it to run a hitch and pitch (similar to a wheel route. Throw the quick hitch to number one and have him pitch it on the outside like number two or the running back out in the flat running a wheel!)

The Chiefs have taken the Dragon concept to a new level by using it as a run game tag. Their 2018 home game against Denver they some good success with it.
@roderickclerk5904

Slant and speed out is good against cover 3 because you truly get a 2 on 1 with overhang guy who could be playing a curl/flat or hook zone. The corner "should" be bailing in cover 3. In cover 2, slant/speed out is not as good because the corner responsibility is a low flat zone. So now the corner can play the out and the overhang can play the slant. Takes a really accurate and quick release to beat press cover 2 with a slant/speed out.
@TheQBSchool

Takes a bad decision to even throw slant flat vs a cloud corner.

JT, you mentioned toward the beginning that both Dragon and Lion are not great vs quarters; what 2x2 quick game concepts do you like against quarters (ideally, but not necessarily, that still leave you with workable answers vs C3, C2, C1, etc)?

I’m slowly putting together the system I want to run when I can be an offensive coordinator. I really like the idea of split-field passing concepts like you detailed in this video (MOFO side, MOFC side). Is there a way to do it out of a 3x1 formation without motion, or do you need two receivers (2x2 or Empty) to run split-field concepts?

Hi Mr. O'Sullivan.. Are you familiar with a pass concept where there are twins wr's on one side vs a "2" high look. The (slot wr) runs the 1-2 step slant, but the OUTSIDE Wr, runs a (Five & IN= FIN route).. Is that a new concept? If so, what is it called? Thank you.. Great content

Question: at 5:59 of the video he says he doens't like it agaisnt quarters but end up saying he likes it against MOFO. Isn't quarters MOFO? What does he mean with that? Thanks guys
@dsk1317
@dsk1317 4 года назад
Because Quarters is a pattern match coverage, so if there isn't a vertical threat by #2 to occupy the safeties, they can play a "robber technique." He'll look to rob the curl to post of #1, since the CB is playing with outside leverage on #1. Then there's the overhang defender (outside backer, sub package DB) and he's called the match 2 player...that's match 2 shallow, not vertical. VS trips the defense could play Special, which is a Palms check to trips. It's an X-out on #1 to the trips side (CB has #1 in MEG), which leaves the overhang dropper and safety playing Palms/2-read on #2 & #3, but with the x-out on #1...that makes them the new #1 & #2). In one version from the Vikings, #2 would run the slant, then stem vertical. Now that would remove the safety, so that leaves the CBs playing with outside leverage with no inside help. Oh, and he said that variation was good against quarters. He just didn't do a breakdown of quarters... it would've been a 3 hour video lol
