I’d like to see you pull the transmission, but first you might want to think about trying Lucas oil leak , are used it on my old one Xterra, it took about two weeks before it really kicked in but it stopped all the leaks , and I had a main seal leak worse than yours.

Why don't you just high pressure wash it with decreaser and then look to see where it's coming from
@Joshoptimus
@Joshoptimus 4 года назад
Obviously the engine is losing and or consuming oil. Its somehow coming through maybe puddling up inside manifold. Have you checked the pvc? Head scratcher. Definitely record the transmission job, be good for youtube archives

Hey great videos man very helpful I have a question for you , on the transmission speed sensor that is in the transfer case (that has a plastic gear on the end) mine is bad and they hardwired it in (no connectors) it has a baby blue wire and a brown wire. The new one I got has two dark blue wires .. do you have a picture of the back of the wiring harness side of the connector?

I also have a minor rear main seal leak on my Xterra. I've thought about doing the job, but the leak is so minimal not sure it warrants the time and labor.
@victorromero2829
@victorromero2829 4 года назад
That's a valve cover leak , a rear main seal is on the bottom of your Motor where it connects to the Transmission

Crazy my 04 xterra is doing the exact same thing. The valve cover gasket were replaced about 5 years ago. The same valve cover gasket is leaking a small amount and the rear main seal… I think… is leaking. Not as bad as your but I’m getting oil in the same location. Also the power steering is leaking but I’m not as concerned about that yet. My xterra doesn’t get used much but I really love this car so much. I could replace the valve cover gasket but I don’t think it’ll make much of a difference because the real leak is the rear main seal. Did you ever change it? Any advice? It’s not consuming much oil at this point but I know it’ll just get worse
@FixingWithPassion
@FixingWithPassion 2 года назад
Yea I changed it but didn't really make a difference. More that likely its the oil pan gasket or rear main seal. I do know oil pans had a issue near the rear main seal leaking and dripping down making one think it was a rear main seal. When built new, i think they never got the sealant right in that area. You might try the oil pan removal first and see. If its a 4x4 its a lot of work but satisfying if fixed.

@@FixingWithPassion yeah I have the v6 that’s rear wheel drive but has 4 wheel drive. So I guess it’s not gonna be fun. I saw you have another video about fixing the rear main seal so I’ll go check that out.

I would definitely like to see it. By the way, if you have to drop the front diff, you should change your oil pan gasket while you have the opportunity.

I know some bolts on some vehicles go into the water jacket on the head and can leak coolant, but never seen one leak oil. Especially not from an exhaust manifold bolt. Someone in the past probably broke the bolt off in the head and drilled it out, but drilled too deep and went into an oil passage in the head.

The oil leak down low may be rear main seal but leak from a rusted pan also happens. The oil around the manifold bolt could be dirty coolant or engine oil leak from a leaking head gasket. You don't have to drop the front diff to remove the transmission but you do need to drop it (or lift the engine) to replace the oil pan. The exhaust doesn't have to be removed to remove the transmission if you get the transfer case out of the way but removing the passenger front tube would be helpful. Removing the starter and the inspection plate (you have to remove both engine-transmission gussets) really won't show you much but the front side of the flex plate; can't inspect the RMS. If you're going to go through the work of pulling the transmission, consider inspecting the transmission (especially the front components that are easy to get to) and replacing front/rear oil seals.
@FixingWithPassion
@FixingWithPassion 4 года назад
I'm going to pull the exhaust and see how the bolt looks where the oil is leaking. Head gasket issue...possible....something I'm going to look into.

How does a valve cover get bent like that?
@victorromero2829
@victorromero2829 4 года назад
Maybe getting Dropped from the previous time the Valve cover gasket was Replaced
@benniewilliams2019
@benniewilliams2019 2 года назад
@@victorromero2829 About the ONLY way you can bend that valve cover as shown is when prying it up with force to break it loose from the head after one has removed all the bolts.....except the one you forgot to take all the way out!!! The one on that rear corner! Betcha I am right! How to fix it?...simple. Put it back on WITHOUT the gasket and put one small OD metal washer between the cover and the block at all bolt locations EXCEPT the bolt hole where the cover is bent up. Tighten all the bolts with washers first and then eyeball the bent area as you tighten that bolt. Watch close as you 'bend' it down. Bend it a little at a time until it looks straight. You may not have to tighten it all the way down to straighten it! CAUTION: do not drop any washers into the head area...account for ALL!
