Ma Lin's footwork isn't up to point as before, and Xu Xin took full advantage of that weakness... It's refreshing to see two top tier penhold players from different eras battling each other though~
ma lin is a bit traditional penholder although he also mastering reverse penhold backhand. While xu xin is the new generation of penhold who mastering both side of racket. For me both of them master of table tennis because not so many professional player use penhold grip anymore because of weakness at backhand. Xu xin a bit better because of his height and long reach. He is quite fun to watch because of his nature in playing around in competition. Dont forget WangHao, who is one of the best penholder.
The reverse penholder grip makes a huge impact. IMO it’s still weaker Ghana shake hand backhand but it dramatically improved the backhand weakness of the penholder grip.
The reverse grip didn't make much impact when Wang Hao played Ma Lin.Xu Xin couldn't tackle even Samsonov and Wang Liqin who where well into their 30's,let alone his own contemporaries.
I saw one of the beautiful countries I know in Africa, Ghana in your comment and I cannot understand it better. Can u please explain a bit for me. Thank you sir
@Sultan Sarsenbayev It is the system. TT in China is popular but not many serious players. If the population is an absolute gauge for developing great players, then China must be really good at soccer, but we all know how good they are, can't even beat S. Korea and Japan. By the way, I think soccer is the #1 sport in China.
@Eddievun Piaw But they suck in football. They tried but couldn't fix the system. I believe they hired some high-profile coaches from abroad to help them but with no success in sight.
not really, if you know who the two of them are, you will actually find the title fitting. Ma Lin was the world no.1 while Xu Xin is the world no.1. This is basically the world's best against the world's best. Legends against legends.
