Hello, i'd like to make a mirrored raid with two Seagate Ironwolf 4TB drives as i would like to use this model as a NAS. Will the RAID controller work with something bigger than 2TB? The BIOS is MBR based so i'm not really sure. Thanks!
It might, but what is going to hurt your performance is that fact that it is only SATA1 maybe 2 depending on serial number. It may be better to use the software you are planning on using to create a ZFS array for better performance based on the SATA interface on the M/B
@@OldMatesBackyardTech Oh i see. I was lucky enough to get the SATA 2 model, i'm already running a SSD in it and i'm getting pretty good speeds :) Software RAID is a great idea, i think i'll try both solutions. For the performance i might go with a RAID card too since the motherboard has a handy 4x PCIe slot (Although it's only gen 1.1, the theoritical speed is way higher than what the SATA 3 interface can provide). Thanks a lot for the quick response. You got yourself a new sub ^^
Is it possible to create Raid 1 set up, if windows 10 is already installed on a hard drive and installing second empty drive to mirror drive with windows with workstation xw8600?
If you are attempting to create RAID1 under H/W the all data on both drives is trashed as the sync layout needs to laid so the drives are sync'd. Would not advise using Windows to create a RAID
@@OldMatesBackyardTech so i have the workstation xw4400 but at somepoint in time my harddrive died so i took it out and whatnot, i forgot about labeling the p wires and i cant find anywhere on the internet of how to plug one into the pc. I have basically most of the wiring internally correct like the p1, and p3 but then theres like wayyy to many and i get confused easily
