Arch Enemy's main act is the guitars. The guitar players are world class. They don't try to write technical stuff but memorable stuff.

What's off the charts about this is: 1. Alissa is shockingly beautiful...total contrast to the harsh voice. Many people can't get over just that. 2. The all harsh vocals are pretty varied, there's expression within them, because she's so good at them. 3. Enunciation is perfect. You understand EVERY word on first listen.

Arch enemy is 99.9% heavy vocals. The vocalist needs to be extremely healthy and strong because he/she has to do that for 90min 200 times a year live. There is no clean singing "resting" like with many others. Mad respect! Since joining Arch Enemy miss White-Gluz has developed some really demonic vocals. She gets a lot of practice. Check the links in the replies for some examples...

I just saw Chris Broderick on guitar on the Tornado of Souls video. I recommended Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor live version because he is on that. Then I came to watch this video and lo and behold there is Jeff Loomis (blonde guitarist) who was the main guitarist for Nevermore and is also in the video I recommended. :)

She used to be in another band called The Agonist. That band is also worth checking out. Whether it be with Alissa or with their new frontwoman Vicky Psarakis. Both women are AMAZING. Vicky has even done vocal covers of Epica, Nightwish and a few others. PLEASE check her out. It is absurd how underappreciated she is.

You guys should definitely check out Straight Line Stitch - “Black Veil” if you want to see a black woman with phenomenal harsh vocals. Alexis Brown was one of the first female vocalists I enjoyed that switched from cleans to harsh vocals. And she has an impeccable windmill.

That black chic is feelin it... my kinda lady.
