“Yaadava Nee Ba”. This melodious song by Purandara Dasa, extols Lord Krishna and beseeches the Lord to come to see him.
The song praises the delightful son of the Yadu race, the vanquisher of His own uncle Kamsa, the darling of Yashoda, with the melodious flute, His vehicle being a big bird, and forms being numerous, Purandara requests the Lord of Vittala, to come to bless His devotees.
Weaved into this song is the story of Narasimha Avatar of Lord Vishnu. This avataara dramatizes the proud and mighty King Hiranyakshivpu who is enraged when he sees his son, Prahlad, worshipping and singing praises of Lord Vishnu. Angry at his son and blinded by power, he challenges his son and asks if the Lord is in the pillar and destroys it. The Lord emerges ferocious in form of Narasimha, a half man half lion, at twilight, and kills Hiranyakshivpu with bare hands while holding his body on His lap in the threshold of his palace. Ahobilam is traditionally regarded as the place where the Lord Narasimha killed Hiranyakshivapu, to restore Dharma, and proving that He never lets his devotees down.
Presented by students of Nrithyatharangini School of Dance & Choreography, along with Guru. Smt. Shobha Anand, Creative Director of the school, who has also choreographed this performance. This was performed at the 25th Purandara Aaradane at Sringeri Temple, Toronto, Canada, May 2024.
