My dad (now in his 70s) used to be a waiter on board a ferry that crossed the North Sea on its regular route. If the weather was bad and he couldn't finish the washing up before they docked, he used the throw whatever was left out of the porthole and record it as breakages!

Even felt a bit queasy just watching this haha!! Also important to note - we are not often sailing in seas like this, it'll only be a few days whilst crossing or s spot of bad weather. 99.9% of the time we avoid bad weather like the plague as nobody likes it, keeps the yacht safe etc. That's why it's not 'imperative' that crew members have sturdy sea legs.

It's amazing how these super yachts are basically designed to be floating living rooms parked in a calm anchorage/port, with daytrips, and ocean going seaworthiness is a secondary consideration. Square edges, breakable stuff everywhere. 3 meter swell and 150 ft. of OMG!

One of the worse incidents to happen to crew members during rough seas was the rolls during showering 🚿. The water tanks port and starboard could shift cold water to scalding water causing sailors to leap from showers with 1st degree to 3rd degree water burns. I remember one sailor onboard the USS San Jose AFS 7 in 83 was nearly blinded and was medically discharged due to his injuries. Being out to sea can be fun but it do have its own perils....Bravo 👏Zulu for your videos.

I remember my first time being sea sicks was in December 1982 I though I was going to die.....but I got use to it in the U. S. Navy. Although in my 18 years in the Navy, some U.S Servicemen have jumped overboard committing suicide from being sea sick. It's rare but it does happen for a few trying to obtain their sea legs.

Personally, I love the rough weather (as long as I am on a vessel that can handle the waves). The worst weather I experienced was when I was serving in the Royal Navy and we were taking part in a NATO exercise off the coast of Scotland (JMC). We were in a force 11 Gale - when you stood aft and faced forward below deck, then you could see the ship bending. We had to strap ourselves in our pits in order to get some sleep. I have a huge amount of respect for the north and Bering sea fishermen and women who brave those kind of conditions on a regular basis. I was on a Type 23 frigate but I could not imagine how sea states like that must feel when you are on a fishing boat. One of the reasons I volunteered for the RNLI was because I love the rough weather....sorry for waffling on lol

One of my clients (~200' motor yacht) had a large marble slab coffee table break loose on an Atlantic crossing. It worked like a battering ram and destroyed the owner cabin. Oops! Good thing they were already headed to the yard for refit.

Love ya videos man! Good and bad to see you back on yachts as the bush plane content was also ace. You were speaking on how these boats are not designed for some of those larger swells. It would be interesting if you were to do a segment on why they are designed in such a way, are surely it would very much be to everyone’s advantage if they could handle the rougher stuff better. In a similar vain, it would be pretty cool to see some of the more technical details about the boat, which I am guessing would link back into why it struggles in heavier weather

What happens to super yachts in really bad weather? I know they try to avoid any weather, but hurricane season in the Caribbean can change quickly for a yacht doing a crossing. I would expect all those furnishings like pianos, chairs, lamps, swimming pools, hot tubs, etc. to become quite active on deck. Also, do crew members who get seasick have that noted on their employment record?
