How to's on yachts are endless! I could make thousands. In my opinion one of the most looked for videos I personally searched for was "Docking Procedures". Why? Anyone can wash a boat, anyone can clean teak. But docking a boat is something you can only ever practice when you ACTUALLY dock the boat. There is a certain urgency to it as the captain is under pressure to keep the boat in one place. This is not always easy when the wind is pumping and the yacht wants to blow half way down the port.
Thanks for watching and if you have any questions as always. Pop them down below.

Super interesting! So much different than tying up a 12m sailboat i’m used to. other than springs you don’t need three other lines just to grab and secure the stern/bowlines😂👍🏼

Watch out when you're dipping that eye. When you dipped that eye (8:08) and threw it over the bollard the eye overlapped the first eye. The dipped eye has to be on top of the first eye or you're locking the first eye in place, which defeats the purpose of dipping the eye. Yeah I'm a year late, but I just found your channel and I'm enjoying seeing another aspect of sailing. From one salty sailor (20+ years on oil tankers) to another, keep up the great work.

We use all the same knots in rigging in theatres. So cool that generations of sailing translated into a RU-vid video. Super cool seeing bowlines, stoppers, and the kleet tie up is something I use daily at my own work, just pretty stationary and not over water

The knot shown is actually called a rolling hitch. A stopper knot is a knot tied at the end of a line to prevent it from pulling through a ring, block, or fairlead.
@MrRagingrapid
@MrRagingrapid 5 лет назад
Yeah I agree. It's definitely no stopper knot. If he did a figure of eight or a stevedores knot, those are stopper knots. This one's a type of hitch like you say.

When you tie the bowline knots, make sure the tail ends up on the inside of the loop. If it is on the outside it is much easier for the line to slip. It appeared one of yours was on the outside... Just a tip I picked up over the years!
@jaredwatney
@jaredwatney 6 лет назад
Thanks Ben. I am able to tie a bowline in reverse as well. I can assure you, not once has the bowline been tied incorrectly on my videos otherwise it would have simply slipped. You are right though, if the loop is done incorrectly, the bowline will not hold. Knot video coming up soon. Appreciate your time to comment

Hi Melanie. You are in a great place to look for work but you are there at a funny time. Boats will start coming back to palma now so you may pick up work. Walk every marina in main palma starting in club de Mar , then take a short bus to Portals and see all those boats (twice) and worst case go to a marina called Port Adriano. Good luck

P.S. Docking is indeed one of the most challenging and stressful parts of normal boat operations. More docking, mate! :) How did the Spectra snubber line get from one fairlead to the other? Presumably you ran the ground line back through the winch, in order to ease it.
@jaredwatney
@jaredwatney 6 лет назад
Well once you take the Spectra onto the line, release the tension from the winch, lock off the main ground line to the bollard, once thats secure, you can ease the snubber, take it to the other side to do the same.
@LoanwordEggcorn
@LoanwordEggcorn 6 лет назад
Sorry I got confused. The figure eights you showed were on the port side. The first snubber was on starboard. Got confused how the ground line moved from the left fairlead to the right one; they're different sides of the boat.
@shmac96

@fakjam19
@fakjam19 6 лет назад
Not to break your balls Jared, those things you're calling fair leads are rolling chocks. A fair lead is more like a verb for example: you can fair lead the line through the rolling chocks. Thanks for sharing! Keep up the good work!

fairlead is a noun too. Such as a device or hardware used to guide lines around objects.
@OMGWTFLOLSMH
@OMGWTFLOLSMH 5 лет назад
Not to bust your balls Al, but they're called roller chocks, and they are considered fairleads (or roller fairleads). A rolling chock is something completely different. They're used as a form of stabilizers on the keels of some boats.

Hey Jared, I was wondering where all the garbage goes during long passages and how do you get rid of it at port?
@jaredwatney
@jaredwatney 6 лет назад
Hey Sam. Great question mate. A long passage on a 30m yacht is very different to say a 60m yacht. For example, the longest we do is like 3/4 days at a time before stopping and then we use the allocated bins which sometimes allow for recycling depending in where we are. On the previous 60m i was on we were doing cross Atlantic's at 13 days at a time and have a garbage fridge specially for garbage to keep everything from going off. We then arrange proper disposal of the garbage with the port. The Maritime industry is pretty good when it comes to enforcing garbage laws but its up to the crew to stick to it.
