Pretty cool that there’s actually a Mike gain adjustment in the menu. That’s something you don’t see a lot. Just ordered one of these, your video is very informative, thanks!
I've had my FT70D handheld for about 10 weeks now, and I'm still regretting buying it. I'd hoped that I'd become a little more satisfied with the unit over time, but I still have a soured view of the HT due to the battery life, and I've recently had it on the car seat beside me as I was mobile, and it was impossible to adjust the volume without using 2 hands. The unit does have good quality transmit/receive, but I've decided that I'm going to look for a better handheld that better suits my preferences.
They are wanting you to purchase RT Systems software and cable. Worth it to me, works like perfect and no removing battery and unplugging this and plugging that back in.
A quick way I get to PC Mode: 1 - Place both the data and power cable in, power on radio. 2 - Detach power cable, power down. 3 - While holding power button down, re-attach power cable. The radio should say ADMS now.
Thanks Chris for this review of the FT70D. I am waiting to be able to take my test for Technican here in the States. I have purchased the FT70D. Your video was very informative. 73s
I picked up an FT 70D last weekend at the Dayton Hamvention in Xenia Ohio. I will say that I find that the radio transmits and receives very well. The battery has been a big disappointment to me. It takes forever to charge using the wall charger. The price that Yaesu want for a drop-in charger is insane. A Baofeng radio that costs $25 comes with a drop in charger, but this $160 radio doesn't. The programming sequence I agree is 'daft'. I wish that I'd done some more research on the different handhelds before impulse buying this unit. I wish that I could send the radio back to HRO , but the international shipping costs from Canada to the USA is crazy. The radio performs great, but the battery life and charging situation takes the wind out of the sails..
Hi David some good comments there. Is your battery actually going dead and turning off. Because if you ignore the battery indicator it does last a fair while. Not as good as a lot of radios but I can get a day out of it if you implement battery saving. You are correct. You only have to transmit a few times and the battery symbol comes on. But if you ignore it you can get a good use
Fusion is far easier to get into than DMR. I have had a DMR radio for nearly 3 years and herd hardly any digital transmissions or made contact. as soon as I got my fusion radio I herd lots of digital and was able to make contact to people all over the world. ive just got the anytone 868 radio and its been programmed by Moonraker ill put it on my hotspot and try again maybe ill hear dmr
Michael A they programmed lots of repeaters in I’ll put it on my hotspot and give it a try. Not tried it yet.they also programmed what seems like every repeater in the uk on it there is loads to go through I’m still playing with the radio
Fusion is easier. I always hear someone say Fusion/Wires-X is not active when there is plenty of active rooms. Maybe some of the repeaters might not be busy at times, but with a hotspot or Wires-X node there is no excuse. For DMR, should check your DMR codeplug because there is so much traffic on DMR compared to 4 years ago. If you do to the DMR Last Heard dashboard you'll see traffic all around DMR. Find someone to help you.
Hi chris yet another great video ! I no nothing about ham and was more into scanning as like my aircraft. But scanners are getting virtually into the world of ham these days they so high tech. but love you passion for you hobby and trying to share it ! But for us learning its alot off high tech chat between all that have alot tech nohow. I liked you streamed vids also so im on the sidelines trying understand it. I think if you did streams and videos for newbies also your ratings would go up and think you could do a good step by step videos for newbies instead of all between the ones that have the knowledge. But as said i still watch all vids . Keep the good work up mate . Tim 😎👍
At the 6 minute mark when you say how much needs to be done to connect the radio to a PC, do you mean for programming with Yaesu software? I can imagine having to connect/disconnect cable, push a button and remove the battery using the RT sys software.
Hi: I have the Yaesu FT70D. I want to program this radio using a software , but every time that I connect the data cable I have this message "" INVALID COM SETTING"" How can I solve this issue? Thanks
Make sure you have the drivers installed from the manufacturers website. Connect the wire to the radio and PC. Going to device manager and find out the port number. I think it is just telling you it for can’t find the comm port or it is set wrong. The procedure to get it communicating it is ridiculous. But you will have to do this making sure the comm port is set as in device manager on your computer
Absolutely appauling battery life on this radio regardless of the settings. I only use mine on RX and it's still very poor so god knows what it's like if your transmitting as well. Please do not be tempted by the radios low price point avoid this radio like the plague you have been warned!
Silly question...I am rusty on funcationaliy of radio frequencies, but I am in process of getting my Technician License...but how are you getting reception and transmission all the way to AZ, Michigan, Fort Lauderdale from all the way from UK?
Ethan Corsbie That is a great question and it’s not silly. I am using the radio and it is going into a tiny Hotspot I could be going into a digital repeater nearby. And it is linked to another digital repeater via the Internet
@@digitalanaloguehamradio Thanks for the quick response. I am excited to get into the hobby. Newer technology that I am not accustomed to from long long time ago. Pretty interesting stuff.
Yes it does...they're the Band (*) and V/M (#) buttons on the Right side...and it also has the A, B, C and D DTMF control tones functions also...which are the F(Function), Mode, HM/RV and AMS buttons respectively
Hola Quiero ampliar las frecuencias en mi YAESU FT-70D no sé hacerlo, y en mi país y para la institución que laboro se usan otras bandas que no son para aficionados. Cómo puedo hacerlo Gracias
Hi Chris, I picked up one of these at the weekend. First impressions......great little rig, receive audio is fantastic and I got great reports back too 👍🏻. As for the battery, I’m wondering if they’ve tweaked something as I don’t seem to be having a problem with it (I do have the rx save set on .5 though). The connecting to a comp may prove a bit more problematic, I agree and can’t think what on earth they were thinking with that ‘sequence’, all the best Paul 👍🏻
R11 88 OP'S M6OPV Thanks Paul I am glad you agree with my findings of the radio. It’s a wonderful receiver very wide coverage actually like a scanner. The battery is not the best but if you ignore the symbol telling you it’s low you will be fine
You will need either: 1. A Wires-X enabled repeater in range of you. OR 2. A digital radio hotspot, such as an Openspot2/3, Jumbospot, Zumspot, Pi-Star, etc. If you go the hotspot route, then yes, if it's properly configured it will just need access to your WiFi.
Not familiar with that model. But this is a very good radio only downside to the radio you mentioned this one only has a single line. Just one channel at a time not duel display
Hi there friend of mine has 70d, the transmit audio is weak even with the mic gain on max, and he says he cant set the deviation to wide on 70cms repeater, any replies would be interesting from Fred g4vvq.
Transmit audio is one of the main benefits of this radio it’s strong. Try a simplex test on analogue. It depends what he is going into whether it’s an all star repeater I RLP repeater ect.
drumhd1 thank you but don’t be put off it’s a great radio just letting people know that are not fully able-bodied. Check out another video I did FT70 simple pc connection
Ive just purchased a brand new yaesu vx6r for 147 would have been more . a think they are awesome radios to no digital tho but not fussed the frequencys it covers is immense 50khz to 999mhz submersible water protection superhet aswell and they been out about 15 years lol
If you really want to piss off the moderator, Terry, who is a real Alpha Hotel on the WIN system, key up with WIRES-X on I used to get on one of their local repeaters, if you pony up for a membership, you can get away with anything, If you are not, they give you shite about everything. Needless to say, I don't get on there anymore.
Yaesu is the one That is a sexy radio like ha love the receive and transmit lights automatic detection of what mode is recieveing .is thier no upgrade for the battery normally higher mah ones available. And a think yaesu was having a laugh with that usb programme cable to computer marlarkee lol pure mess around that and superhetrodyne 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
"It's a superhetrodyne so very good audio..." You don't know what a superhet is do you? Quote: A superheterodyne receiver, often shortened to superhet, is a type of radio receiver that uses frequency mixing to convert a received signal to a fixed intermediate frequency which can be more conveniently processed than the original carrier frequency. It was invented by US engineer Edwin Armstrong in 1918 during World War I. Virtually all modern radio receivers use the superheterodyne principle. Interesting video...blind leading the blind
@@digitalanaloguehamradio From my previous post... " Virtually all modern radio receivers use the superheterodyne principle." And please advise how you think superhet is better than direct conversion when it comes to audio? I'm honestly interested
@@j.cheeverloophole9029 ok I have got three superheterodyne in my example.ft 70,kenwood th70,icom I'd 51. They received week stations fantastic with no bleed over. Anytone 878,ailiunce hd1 are very poor in comparison on weak signals. They are direct conversion. Of course you can have good and bad of either sh or DC.uv5r is superhet and also poor on weak signals
