Hi this is Chris 2E0UK. I am a radio enthusiast in the UK, that has been fascinated by the magic of Radio For over 40 years. I created my RU-vid channel many years ago. Initially it was just a place to store my own videos of great contacts and signals I have received. But to my amazement I noticed other people were watching my videos and the numbers went up every month first it was ten views then one hundred then in the thousands. So I decided to make videos to inspire other people with an interest in this great hobby. I can only talk about stuff that I am really interested in and hopefully this comes over in the videos. My particular interests are handheld radios, base stations, both receivers and transceivers. HF VHF UHF both analogue and digital hence the title. I also enjoy operating from the mobile in the car and speaking to people all over the world on voice communications. I particularly like to do videos about subjects other people have not covered much if at all.
Hey, thanks duncan.I just didn't get the long distance contacts I wanted. I will be on a vacation in a week. Or two, and it will be by the east coast salt water. So i'm hoping to get some fabulous contacts on this beast of an aerial
Nice little coil & cool video Chris… I’m curious how the steel bands don’t short out the coils they cross and change the characteristics? Maybe if you tune each one with the others fitted the characteristics don’t change…. I wonder if you added another tuning band would you have to retune all the others? Not sure if I’m explaining my query correctly! 😅
Hi, mate.Excellent question. And you worded it fine. I did notice that once I had got one tuned. And marked with Tipex, I moved that one down and put the middle collar On the original tippax mark, and it was way out. So I think you might be correct. Ask marty he's in the comment somewhere.
Not sure about the offset, but all vhf.Minus six hundred here. You would have to type in the name of the repeater in the app.Repeaterbook to get the info. On the 878 you.You search for tones like this, so it may work on 868. www.reddit.com/r/AnyTone/comments/jz97hm/878uv_scanning_channel_tones/
Its amazing how we discover we have more in common through amateur radio. Mike does a fantastic job here in in maintaining an infrastructure of repeater systems that bring us together. VA3BXL.
I had a qso with Oscar just recently, it was for Gota 2024. Joined the net. Most interesting and enjoyable net. Thanks to Oscar for running the net. David M0DUU
Hi, thanks for your video. For few days now I can hear very well on my local Dstar- repeaters But when I transmitt NO ONE - hears me? Sorry but I’m old & New to this Dstar & ID 52A Blessings
To access repeaters you should be in the dr mode. On the ID 52, you long press dr (down button on the joystick in the middle). In the from section at the bottom, you navigate to Your Repeater that you are hearing. In the (to) section at top you navigate to use reflector in the reflectors section.
I love Mine. I use it in my small garden with excellent results. It is raised 3 feet above my lawn on a spike with 3 shock cord guys. The radials are therefore sloping. Tuning is easy replicated by measuring from the top of the slider to the top winding with a steel rule. Then I record the measurement and can set it for each band with ease.
It is a car stereo. Not very good. Any FM radio Will do. A scanner or a radio connected To an outdoor antenna Is the best way to go. Go out in the car and sit on a hill and try on your car stereo. Join the facebook group uk fm dx watchdogs That is how I was alerted too. The conditions. Watch this video as well to motivate yourself. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dCuOuPv4328.htmlsi=rgDEZqDYOLYQmQ8y
Strange. The 380 Is a super hetradine and a very good receiver. And it's only one band so i'm not surprised that is very good. Any tone is direct conversion. It is good on analog But I wouldn't say it's the best receiver out there. However I agree with you. It is very, very good on digital
I've had an ID-52 USA model for 18 months. Perhaps they have changed from your preview model, but the battery life is fine - normally about 8 + hours real usage. It is much improved by not having the GPS running continuously - best is to get your GPS lock and then save it, and turn the GPS off. M one is used with a White Background and Dark letters and I find it very readable with he backlight on. It can be set to indicate the battery voltage for a second or two when you power on. The speaker is excellent and loud. Overall a very nice radio with lots of adjustments, but quite pricey. The advanced manual is needed, but only comes as a PDF
Thank you for the detailed information very interesting. The battery that came with my japan model was the super slim model, which did not last very long. In other countries like yours. You get the standard battery which is a lot better. It's a great radio. And one that I would never sell unless I had to. Thanks for watching john

Low band HF radio frequencies can travel very far. The fire company i am with used 33.90mhz until a few years ago. On some days we would get interference of people speaking foreign languages. The FCC said it was from off shore boats in Mexico. Couldn't understand a thing they said but we heard them and it was annoying. Our county has since switched to a digital radio system and it doesnt happen anymore. Its amazing how far HF radio can travel.
That's incredible! I didn't think that DX via sky wave would work on such a high frequency. I always considered 50mhz or so to be the upper limit for sky wave but today you have proven me wrong.........I've learnt something!!!
Thanks. Yes, I was very surprised how clear it was. I saw someone post online that they heard it in America. My car stereo is the worst in the world. Total garbage very impress that I picked it up
Had several italian stations in the Netherlands this morning between Lelystad and Utrecht. 90.3, 105.3 and 105.1 (no ident).... This re-triggered my interest in radio when I got a Spanish station back in May 2011 🙂 watch?v=grCPZcllW4I
Thanks for the review. I just received the 868 and thus far am very pleased with it. The battery died so I thought I would watch a few youtube videos while I wait for it to replenish. 73 - Jeff VE6DV
