I’ve had a number of requests to shoot a video series about the Yaesu FT-710 AESS, similar to my FTdx10 series. Ham Radio Outlet loaned me a Yaesu FT-710 AESS for just that purpose.
In this video I chase a QRP SOTA station and use the DSP to minimize the noise. I also show how I use audio shelving to assist the DSP.
Note that you must set the manual notch to Narrow in the menu before you use the “Notch Trick.” I cover that in my menu optimizations PDF for the FT-710 AESS. Also note that DSP settings above algorithm 3 will cause a distorted sound, almost as if you are listening under water. It is best not to exceed algorithm 3. You can get away with algorithm 4 or 5 off you are trying to pull out a weak signal (ghost station), but try not to go above 3 for normal use.
