Loving this! Great radio and great setup! I just recently sold my Yaesu FT-857D with a Mobilinkd TNC3, moving to the FT 991a. I have another mobilinkd TNC3 I'll add to it but I'll also get easier setup of digital like ft8 and such.

Was lucky to find a used 16 year old- Yaesu 857D, in mint condition, from one of my fellow club members, learning how to use now for a man pack. KN4JKZ. US Navy retired or retarded, having fun, thnx friend, be blessed.

Man, great video! Great channel! New subscriber! Question for a brand new ham that just got a used 857d. What cable connectors go where!? So hard to figure out. Which bnc side is connected to the frame? Female? Then the male side from antenna?

Just found your channel and have to say, great detail, though I haven't caught what the frame and pack you used? Subbed, hoping you'll return to making content. Though it would help to cut down the background music, pretty distracting at current volume.

Really bummed TPA frame not in stock. I get paid tomorrow so I was waiting for some cash. Another great video!

This radio is discontinued. It seems like a great radio. I can't believe there isn't a direct replacement for this. The closest from Yaesu is the FT-891 which doesn't come with VHF/UFH!!!

Man. I need help with my 857d. I cannot listen to general fm broadcast, local radio, anymore. I CANNOT change the mode. I can change the mode in every other band but not the fm broadcast band. Help W5WPS MARTIN

I have a FT857d in my truck along with a FTM-100DR. I bought the FTM-100dr specifically for the APRS function. I came upon your video while looking for FT857D all band mod. I didn't know you could do APRS with the 857d. Interesting. Where can I find instructions?

Is it possible to connect the Mobilinkd TNC3 simultaneously to the radio with the Digirig? If so, what are the connections/cables necessary?

That 6ah is rated for 12amps the ft-857d pulls 22amps at full power how were you able to run 80 watts?

I was wondering where did you get your short cables from, Including the 6 and 8 pin cables? Are you using rg58 for your coax?

After running your rig what are your thoughts on the 897 if you had a choice between the two?

FT-857D has the absolute WORST DISPLAY ever devised for a ham radio transceiver or any radio. To replace one will set you back about $170 just for the display. Horrible display.
