I really appreciate your videos- too the point- I suffer from fairly severe ADHD- most other videos of this type are too slow for me to bear. SO glad I found you!!!
FT5D US model. Performed Mars mod and I do have expanded TX. But I have an issue reading and writing from SD. I think it has something to do with the region, but I don’t know how to change it.
Fixed... strange. I went in tested for continuity across the pads. Nothing. I went ahead and just reheated the pads. Cleaned up the solder. Now it reads and writes to SD.
If I understood correctly, its possible to remove the resistor with tweezers and no soldering (maybe). If that's the case, do you have recommendation for the kind of tweezers that are good enough for this kind of task?
You can simply touch the bottom of the resistor (with a pencil iron) and lift upward as it heats up. It should simply lift off by itself. It doesn't take a lot of heat to do this...
Just bear in mind you'll most likely invalidate your warranty folks if you do this mod yourself. Here in the UK it usually has to be carried by an authorised Yaesu dealer to preserve the warranty, not sure about the US and other regions.
This mod worked for me, but I lost the functionality of programming via the USB cable or SD card. I keep getting ERROR when sending or receiving data from PC. Is there something else that needs to be done separate from just removing the 000 resistor?
@Paulo Sousa Is this a more elaborate description of what you're saying? "... I tried to reimport my freqs from the SD card when I got an ERROR message and could not get my settings back. The fix was very simple. All you need to do is reformat the SD while it is in the radio, move the SD card back to your computer and redownload the settings, put the SD card back in the radio. The SD card was then read by the radio without issue."
Strange, my FT5D bought diect from Japan does not have the resistor but it is still locked for frequences outside Ham band. Sad because we have permits to use such frequencies. Anyone knos how to do?
I believe that you will loose the cable and sd card functions following that link . What i do not understand is if that is true why is the store i ordered mine from selling the. Mars mod level 4 for $35 bucks if it trashes the radio . We are just missing a step . A full reset or something. It is clearly made easy for the dealers to do this for an up charge
Whoever did the test was an idiot and/or the firmware was seriously buggy. I'm getting 2.9w on 462 Megs into a dummy load. SWR is 1.00 @ 99.99% power. For reference, on the 70cm ham band, I only get 3.3w ~ 3.9w depending the precise frequency. 2m is 3.8w @ 146.52 Mhz.
