@@moi1151 LOL right she's like an investigative superhero with the innocence of a toddler 😆. Francis McDormand is awesome in pretty much anything she's in.
Fargo made a first in cinematic history, when I heard that I tried to figure out what for before finding out but couldn't think of what it could possibly be, but was mind blown when I found out... literally the first time in film that a main character was pregnant BUT didn't give birth by the end of the movie... still find that crazy! lol
Marge shouting "Police!" and then pointing to her hat because the woodchipper is too loud is one of my favorite moments in all of the Coen Brothers movies. The subdued humor of Fargo is really a masterpiece, not many things are in-your-face funny, and a lot of it is so dark that I felt bad laughing at it, but it works better than almost any comedy I've seen.
I laugh in almost every scene of this movie now but the first time I watched it in my teenage years I didn't laugh that much (also maybe because my English was poor back then and I didn't even get the complexities of the dialogue). The humor is very subtle and I love that.
This movie came out before Lebowski. And since Steve Buscemi talked incessantly during this movie (yet nobody ever telling him to shut up), they decided to make him pretty quiet in Lebowski, yet everything he says being answered with "STFU Donnie!!"
I could list a ton of others, like _Ripley_ and _Sarah Connor_ and well hell just a ton more epicly-written female leads but hell yeah _Marge Gunderson_ is a character I'll remember forever.
Some saw the whole Michael restaurant scene as unnecessary. But that's what actually got Marge thinking about people lying and she went back to see Jerry. Best. Leo.
The Cohen's Millers Crossing is top tier. Not the most popular film of theirs by a long shot, but people are really missing out on a solid and unique mob film. Some of the best acting by John Turturro and many others in the cast.
Frances McDormand won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role of Marge in this movie. She is awesome! The next Coen Brothers movie is Raising Arizona with a young Nicholas Cage and Holly Hunter. It's my favorite Coen Brothers
13:15 literally one of the funniest scenes in ANY film. The over-sized hoods, the rolling dialogue with the accents, the framing, the fact that it’s one take, and the fact you can’t even see their faces all put together just make it a brilliantly hilarious scene haha.
Omg, your guys' expressions through this whole movie were so hilarious! Your faces during Margie's dinner with Mike took me out! It's like you were sitting across from him as he unraveled, lol!
You have now seen both movies Frances McDormand won an oscar for. She won the best actress oscar for this movie and then more than 20 years later she won for Three Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri. She has done a lot of movies with the Coen Brothers. She's also married to one of them since the 80's (Joel Coen). 🙂
@@cesarnarro6013 I guess we're never hearing much about these other classics because they spit out solid gold classics every time they make a movie. I don't do this, but, I guess i need to start a coen brothers collection.
What I thought when I saw you guys did a Fargo reaction: "Ok then". 0:54-1:32 From skepticism to SOLD. 5:27-5:56 LOL. 6:56-7:13 I love Marge. She has a pure heart and she kicks ass. I never realized before how cheap and greedy Steve Buscemi's character is. One of your best reactions. Up there with In Bruges, The Guard, and The Big Lebowski.
I love the parallels between Jerry and Wade each rehearsing the speech they're about to give. Jerry practicing how he's gonna lie to everyone about finding out his wife was kidnapped, versus Wade practicing how he's gonna valiantly rescue his daughter in a hail of bullets like he's John Wayne.
As a sidenote - a lot of the soundtrack has a very distinct Nordic sound to it, to go along with the accents and the overall vibe. As a Norwegian, it's without any doubt the only American movie I've seen, with this particular sound - one I recognize right away!
This Movie, Pulp Fiction & Boogie Nights were the "Darlings" of Movies in the 1990's. Also Alot of folks who live in Minneapolis, MN are of Norwegian/Scandanavian background. Other alumni are Charles Schultz of Peanuts (RIP) and Peggy Lee.
I remember seeing this in highschool and it took me like 3 viewings to get through it. Then watching it again around 25 and understanding its one of the best films made.
I heard the kidnappers described as two cartoon dogs, one big, mean and quiet while the other is yappy and excitable. One other detail I love is how Jerry is almost always surrounded by blinds in his office, seeming to signify he being behind bars.
since you have seen the first 2 seasons of Fargo, now you know where the bag of money in the middle of nowhere the grocer found to start his business came from.
Following the money went like this: Jerry told the kidnappers that the ransom would be 80k and that they would get 40k of that "full ransom". But the truth was that Jerry told Wade the ransom was 1 million. Jerry needed the money to cover all the embezzling he had been doing at Wade's car dealership (the GMAC Financing dude was closing in on him with his fake VIN numbers he was sending) and he was desperate to cover it with either the business deal that fell through, or the ransom money. When Buschemi got the briefcase, to his surprise he saw the full million, then buried it to hide it from his partner - but took out 80k to show him and split it with him. Then, Buschemi was going to return for the other 920k he buried under the snow.
Some people from the area got mad at the accents. But, a lot of people said the accents were dead on. I'm from the South, and whenever there is a movie with people with a heavy southern accent people around me get mad. Then, they start talking, and they sound just like the people on the screen. I notice it more because due to a hearing issue growing up I had to go to a speech therapist when I was very young. She was from somewhere up North. I still sound a lot like her, and nothing like those around me or even my siblings.
@@IamnotJohnFord yeah it's crazy. I live towards the middle of the country and me and everyone here have normal non regional accents. It's why a lot of radio DJs and newscasters come from here. If i go up to Fargo to see family for even a couple of days, i come back sounding just like they do and it takes about a week to get rid of it.
One of the greatest movies of the 1990s, it made me laugh out loud in the cinema. Still can remember, that two women walked out of the theatre. I'm not sure if it was me (my laugh out moments), or they really thought it was based on a true story (which is not, that was a joke), and they couldn't handled its very black humor lol.
I played Marge for Halloween a few years ago.😁 One of my all time favorite characters. Coen Brothers are🔥. Please watch True Romance. Tarantino's 1st script.
Nice job guys. Brilliant film. Viciously funny. Some genuine life lessons to be had for the thoughtful viewer. Enjoyed your review. Keep up the great work!
You know what's so funny about this reaction video? I kept getting caught up in the movie, I forgot to watch your reactions! I kept having to rewind! lol Damn, this is such a good movie. This is definitely my favorite Coen Brothers movie (plus their first two, "Blood Simple" and "Raising Arizona") I'm actually not a big fan of "Lebowski" and "No Country For Old Men", and their other movies can be a hit or miss, but "Fargo" and their first two are total masterpieces. So happy you did this one, there's not many of this movie!
@@launabanauna8958 THANK YOU! Yes! I went in to the theater a full-blown Coen Brothers fan, going back to "Blood Simple". Although I already knew that they could be hit and miss, "Fargo" had preceded it so I had high hopes. Instead I'm trapped in a movie where I have to hear the word "dude" every two seconds. Love the Coen Brothers, love every single person in the cast, can't stand the movie. I periodically give it another chance and I always end up shutting it off, I can't even get through it.
You might think the dialog or accents in this is made goofy for the film, but it's not at all. That is how people in Minnesota talk. I have relatives in the Upper Peninsula of MI, which is attached to Minn, and they talk very similarly.
Don't start that sh#t, joke. I find it amazing those who speak English are so very diverse in accents. How does this happen. Coen brothers have a great way of pushing a storyline with such odd characters.
The U.P. of Michigan is connected to Wisconsin -- not Minnesota -- but both states had large immigrant populations from all the Scandinavian countries.
I really dug you guys' reaction. Fargo is my 2nd favorite movie of all time (Rasing Arizona is first) and I am thrilled that you guys liked it. Good video.
Great reaction. The Coen Bros are always worth watching. I highly recommend their early film, Miller’s Crossing( 1990 ) which came out at the same time as Goodfellas and was overshadowed. But it is a fantastic film with a great cast. And if either of you haven’t seen Goodfellas.... get on that .
I believe Fargo won Best Picture. It’s a classic for me. Margie is the best but all the dialogue was great. William H Macy (red headed dealer) was terrific as the man who set this crazy story all in motion. He’s inept from beginning to end. All the actors were perfect in their roles. I love the Big Lebowski too. Good reaction guys.
Even though, ''Blood Simple'', ''Raising Arizona'', ''Barton Fink'', ''Fargo'', The Big Lebowski''. ''No Country For Old Men'' are masterpieces, ''Miller's Crossing'' is still my favorite Joel & Ethan Coen movie.
I have a weird choice for my favorite Coen Brothers movie. While I love Fargo, The Big Lebowski and No Country for old men and technically they are far better - my favorite one is probably "Burn after reading". It's just one of the most pointless movies ever made. It's so hilarious and somehow meaningless, but I fucking love it. It also has Brad Pitt funniest and most stupid performance of his career. Frances McDormand is in it as well, so are George Clooney, JK Simmons, John Malkovich and one of my favorite actresses Tilda Swinton. You gotta watch this.
One of my all time favorite films. Haven't seen *Big Lebowski* yet, but it's on my radar since I'm seeing a lot of reacts to it out there. Another great reaction you two.
You guys should react to the movie "True Romance" written by Quintin Tarantino, an action classic with great dialogue..... Also The Last Dance if you haven't seen it. I know Jimmy is a big basketball fan
I love how everyone feels bad for Mike at first until you find out he's a scumbag! Think the whole scene is to show how Marge starts to realize that "looks like a nice enough guy" doesn't mean much in this day and age
You guys are the best movie reactors on yt, just got done watching you guys react to all of Martin McDonough's films, which get overlooked, and you guys really understand why these films are great. Keep it up fellas
@@JimmyMacram @Jimmy Macram My pleasure man, hey while I got you here. I have a couple of suggestions. No country for old men, one of my favorites, and alot of RU-vidrs on here can't grasp the meaning of this movie and how great it is. I think you guys will really appreciate it, and it's from the directors of Fargo. And Drive. Super stylized with great visuals, amazing soundtrack and a little ultra violence. Thanks man!
I love this movie because I think it has a fantastic blend of crime drama, morbid humor, and things going wrong for the guy who thinks he has the perfect plan. Some of those scenes are hilarious and make me cringe at the same time.
The T.V. series is great. Hope we get to see your reactions. That accent. 😀 Would love to see you guys watch more dark comedies like Drop Dead Gorgeous, Very Bad Things, A Simple Favor, etc. I'd recommend Limitless, Gothika, Yes Man, Stir of Echoes, Long Kiss Goodnight, Promising Young Woman, I, Tonya, Collateral, Walk the Line, A Time to Kill, Man on Fire, Baby Driver, Doctor Sleep ...
While the movie begins with the claim that this was based on a true story, it was actually not. The film is entirely a work of fiction, which was a surprise as the movie duped many people when it released into thinking it was a real event. That brings us to the urban legend of Takako Konishi. The rumor goes that Konishi had traveled from Tokyo to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, where Steve Buscemi's character buried the suitcase of money, in hopes of finding the money as she believed the film was indeed based on an actual crime. This was later found to be untrue. In reality, Konishi had lost her job in Tokyo as a travel agent and become extremely depressed, leading to her developing severe alcoholism. She came to Minneapolis, not to search for the money, but because it was previously the home of a married man she had fallen in love with while he was on a business trip in Japan. He had recently moved to Singapore and after a forty five minute cell phone conversation with him (discovered through the police investigation by her phone records), she traveled to the seclusion of Detroit Lakes, drank two bottles of champagne, laid down in the snow, and froze to death. Her body was found about a month later by a bow hunter and as a result of a misleading conversation she had with a police officer while passing through Bismarck, North Dakota it was misreported by the media that she had done this in a desperate search for the money buried in the film as a result of her previously filing for bankruptcy. This urban legend has lead to multiple documentaries and even a movie that serves as a fictional retelling of the rumor, depicted as true events much like Fargo itself. In the end, much like the film that the urban legend was based around, the story of Konishi and the legend surrounding her suicide was yet another case of fact indeed being stranger than fiction.
You got to see the third forth season and the 5th is looking amazing Check Noah Hawleys other show “LEGION” it’s based on a Marvel character and he made it in between making the Fargo season ✌
