I'm thinking about modding the grill to have the same masonry on the inside as they do for forges. Anybody else have a good idea about how to maintain a similar aesthetic but make it more functional?

Hey Colin, you could try making a double-walled grill out of two containers, and lining the gap between them with perlite.

Definitely 4 years late. Yes I agree with that, doing a double lined grill to help insulate is a great idea. I used playground sand for a cheap quick and easy modification along with a spray painted terracotta planter for the outer layer.

I’m at the very start of my yakitori journey (check the grill I’ve got to work with) but this is a very refreshingly honest video as how difficult it can be. I’m genuinely interested in an indoor electric yakitori grill for the table and the charcoal one for spring/summer

I think Yakitori is deceptively simple. It may just be humble ingredients, but to make truly amazing food in this style requires a lot of skill building. Good luck as you begin your journey!

Colin Makes All The Things yes, absolutely. The grilling I’m happy with but the butchering and assembly not so. Did you find a Tsukune recipe you were happy with.

Not yet, I may have to see it done, it may be technique and not necessarily a recipe issue.

Colin Makes All The Things a Greek chef was telling me about when you add the salt to make sure the mixture grips the skewer and doesn’t break apart. I believe he said you add salt (to the raw meat) before anything else. I’ve got to get it right as these skewers look sooo good

3:13 Place the chicken meatball in the freezer for about 30-45 mins. It would stick together.

Try cooking 1/3 of the ground chicken separately, then add it to the rest of the mix.

Agree 100%. Intake holes closer to the coals would allow for fresh air in close to the coals (more heat) and and will push heat out the top.
