If I had the money I would love to buy a YAK 3 . THEY are the tightest turning and best low altitude performing aircraft of WW2. THEY also seem to retain their energy.
The YAK-3: 1) They had excellent performances, but for very short periods - it had the role, in fact, of interceptor; 2) To have the performances as above, they removed everything from the aircraft (even the radio), the armors left just the minimum necessary; 3) Again for the points above, they limited fuel to the minimum amount, drastically reducing the range of action. If I really have to buy a Yakovlev from World War II, I would have preferred the one done and finished, a full-fledged aircraft, that is the Yak-9 UM.
The German pilots were told to stay away from the Yaks! They were told do not dog fight a Yak 3 especially! These planes were the smallest of WWII's fighter aircraft and had enough power to weight ration to be very fast and more maneuverable than any other plane in the war! They had enough armament to get the job done! Had the BF 109's had high octane fuel like American fighters had they would have been the fastest in the war. However, the Yak 3 was just perfect for battle in the skies!
to clarify, they were told not to engage them in low altitudes, and taught to drag them into high alt dogfights where they could win. Many overenthusiastic and unexperienced Soviet airmen fell for the bait. In higher altitudes, it was matched or outmatched.
DumbledoreMcCracken that’s the vodka clouding your eyesight 😂😅when your hangover goes away you will see once again that while it’s a nice looking airplane even the ugly P-47 thunderbolt is a better looking air plane and fighter than your Yak
@@martinrigggs500 You are delusional, and I don't drink. You obviously have just started your journey into aircraft enthusiasm, and have not yet developed a discerning eye and appreciation for the finer aesthetic and performance nuances that separate the great piston aircraft from everything else. While the P-51 is a cleaver girl for not having much of a wing fillet, and a big tank, she unfortunately looks like a gravid carp. I haven't flown one, so I can't comment on that aspect of her personality. While some of the F4U variants are _interesting_ looking, I wouldn't call that breed particularly beautiful. Though, I wouldn't kick a gifted one out of the hanger for having an unfortunate proboscis. The only redeeming characteristics of the P-38 are the tricycle gear and nose mounted guns. I wouldn't want to try to exit one, if controls were inoperative, with time being of the essence. If I could choose an American plane, it would be the F8F-1(D)B. Two engines, F7F-4N.
While I'm not a big fan of Russian politics, I have to admit, these guys design and create some of the most beautiful aircraft I've ever seen. Russia has impressive aeronautical engineering.
Of the 108,800 combat aircraft that Germany produced in World War II, 77,000 of them were destroyed on the eastern front. The sky over Russia was not a pleasant gift for the Luftwaffe,..
The Yaks are cheap because they were cheap to make and mass-produced during the horror of the sudden invasion of motherland, but the Mustang and Fockewulf'll probably cost way more, since they've got more effort put into them. Just a guess, though.
1.5 mill to 4.5 million dollars, in similar flying condition, depending on war service, degree of restoration and currency of engine life etc. Thats a lot of lotto.
Hi Herman, yes that's correct regarding the Two fighters in the airshow footage, but the still images at the end (with the aircraft for sale) is a Yak-9.
In this video, the plane named as Yak-3. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gz07Q5Etyjc.html Which is, if you look at the wingtip. And I don't think they sold it..(( ("Terrible" (0:37))
By the end of the war, Ivan Kozhedub, by that time the Guard Major, flew on La-7, made 330 sorties, shot down 62 enemy planes in 120 air battles, including 17 Ju-87 dive bombers, 2 Ju-88 and He bombers each -111, 16 fighter Bf-109 and 21 Fw-190, 3 attack aircraft Hs-129 and 1 jet fighter Me-262
I am French, franzouski, great fan of Normandie - Niemen. I would have preferred the yak compared to P51 or spitfires, without mentioning P38 to fight against Luftwaffe if I was in age to fight at the time. Great maneuverability, speed and easy to maintain, the cooling radiator even accepted water from the tap. Cheers
P-51 is Superior in some ways, an inferior and others. The p51 was not a cheaper playing to manufacture nor purchase today. P-51s could not shoot the me262 in the air only on takeoff and landing and most of the time by accident. As far as overall fighter planes are graded by the world standards the number one plane is still the spitfire.
