I don't think Kiwami tried to capture the era of the game , it tried to capture the tone of the story. being a more darker and gritty flick, When Zero was homage to 80's yakuza movies mixed with a caricature of 80's bubble era. Id say Kiwami is more faithful to the era Yakuza 1 was made because Yakuza 1 was made in the mid 2000's. but 0 represents the era it is depicting because its part of the game design.
@@realamericannegro977 I don't think so Yakuza 5 and 6 has a more late 2010's modern "colorful" feel compared to Kiwami and Kiwami 2's "dark and gritty" cinematic greenish feel (which they've done since Kiwami's timeline is 1995-2005, great depression era of Japan")
I think it works well thematically. In the 80's our protagonists, especially Kiryu, are a lot younger, naive, and aren't seasoned yet. By 2005 all the luster has worn off and they see the world and the Yakuza life for what it is.
God, I love the engine for these games. I know some people think it feels last-gen but I think it's great. Combat, animations and character designs are all peak here.
@@theycalledmemahdi8490 Isn't ps3 last gen? Yakuza 0 on ps3 has pretty much the same graphics, but it takes more time to load and it runs slowly. That's why they decided to make a current gen version, the one seen in this video. It's not a remaster, it just runs better
@@kingqunt8567 yes but the studio didn't have as much experience creating great games as they did in yakuza 0. Even if it is a complete remake they still are remaking stuff from a decade ago so it won't stand upto new work
Yakuza 0 slightly looks better, but Kiwami has a higher render distance. You can easily notice this in 2:16 where you can see trees and trash in yakuza 0 load in, but not in kiwami. And the fact that the background in 0 is blurrier than in kiwami.
I love how the 80s look so fresh and colorful while the 2000s looks so gloomy and dark. I have indulged in a lot of Japanse entertainment from the 2000s like idol comedy shows, movies, and drama and Kiwami absolutely captures that feel.
0 did better job in this one. But if you asked me which game is my best Yakuza game,I’d go for Kiwami 2.(I used to play OG PS2,Yes,And I am on Yumeza 5,Now.).
They at least changed the car models. In 0 you mostly see a black, orange car and a truck, in Kiwami 1, they replaced the black cars with a more "modern" black sedan, and the orange for a white van. In Kiwami 2 they didn't bother and just re-used modern car models from 6, and only added the same black sedan in Kiwami 1.
I hope to one day play Kiwami. Started with Yakuza 0 and that shit is loaded with content. Like it's not even padded, there's just way too much shit to do.
Kiwami is great, but there isn't as much side content as there was in 0, but if you enjoyed 0 you will enjoy it, the combat in Kiwami feels better imo.
@@evzenvarga9707 glad to hear there's less side content in Kiwami. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the hell out of it. But it's literally too much game for me. I'm trying to get through all the games so I don't spoil anything when I get to Like a Dragon.
Technological shift from incandescent light to fluorescent, as well as a shift in tone given that Kiwami is a darker more dormant time in Kamurocho. I think it's a good detail on the developer's part.
Kiwami was made in a more decadent era. Completely contrasting with how things were in 0. In 0 people where throwing money like confetti and Kamurocho was bursting with money despite the place having west park full of homeless people. in Kiwami things are not so good. in the early 2000's i think japan was going trough a big economic shift and bubble was long gone. So it makes sense kamurocho looks more bleak and not as lively. But also consider half of Kiwami substories is people trying to scam Kiryu. So there is that feel of social decadence too.
0. Start with 0. Then Kiwami 1. 0 is in the 80's where as Kiwami is in the 2000's. Both are good and they're real similar to each other. Kiwami 1's smaller but still I'm having fun playing it.
I'm just gonna say, forget games that require internet and online to play... I ya'll wanna play a single player game that worth your time, I recommend the Yakuza series and it's spin-off's.
so does 0... That's how big commercial districts looked in the mid 80's. including the sensoarial saturation of the lights Watch Black Rain, that movie was made right during the japanese bubble era and more than half of the movie happens in location in Japan and that's how it looked.
I started kiwami and God that was a downgrade. I mean combat system is good but it's not as comfortable as 0 and I heard kiwami is mostly based off of Kiryu's which I love Kiryu anyways but that disappointing you can't play as Goro Majima
@@mohammedrazeenzaeencamil9344 oh yeah I heard I love kiwami so far it's amazing it sucks u dont hear that funny english voice acting But I also love how Kiryu puts his hands on his pockets, it looks really cool I wish he does that once in 0
