Yale Public Panning Reserve. Free gold panning in BC.

The Yale Public Panning reserve is one of the best free gold panning reserves in the province of British Columbia. BC has many gold panning reserves but the panning reserve at Yale is one of the most popular. Often people ask "Where can I gold pan on the Fraser river". Where to pan on the Fraser without claim jumping is a difficult question other than the public panning reserves.
This video is produced by Dan Hurd, Prospector, Miner, Teacher and RU-vidr, as part of his RU-vid channel based on educational videos about gold mining, gold panning, prospecting, rock hounding, and mineral collecting.

Hi Dan. I stumbled across your interesting video as I was staying local and walked the exact area you were in this video. I have a question. In the sand I noticed particles of something very reflective I have never seen before. Would you be able to tell me what it is please? Thank you so much.

I had been up to this reserve a few times and seen it too. It could be mica. Best thing to do is bring a 10x to 30x microscope, even a kids plastic one to view what you find. Gold has a rounded look and is soft like lead so you can dent it with a pocket knife whereas mica is brittle and comes apart if poked at with the same knife. Gold on average actually looks quite different than the other sparkly rocks in the river but it's kinda hard to explain until you see it for yourself. Needless to say, gold is quite gold coloured in comparison to the other rocks. lol

Hey Dan, awesome stuff. Came over from Klesh. Interested in doing this, but I find it fuzzy on the regulations. Any way to help? I live in BC as well, East Kootenays. Near me would be a reserve by Fort Steele (Cranbrook). Anyways, great stuff and thanks for sharing your videos.

Welcome to the channel. It's always good to start with a local group, if there's one in the area. Have you tried the Fort Steele reserve? I must admit, I don't know the Kootenays in terms of gold. www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/farming-natural-resources-and-industry/mineral-exploration-mining/documents/mineral-titles/reserves/recreational-panning-reserves/bc_recreational_panning_areahyperlinked_2015-12-04.pdf
