In this video we will be putting some movement into our yamadori black locust. This tree was collected in 2020 by a bonsai artist out of Florida. It is now my turn to put my own twist onto how this tree will develop. Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoy!

A very interesting tree Matt and plenty of room for future decisions. I think with the deadwood you have a few options. Either leave it to rot, cut it back and let it rot or carve it into something interesting.

The options seem endless gave. I just have to keep a close eye for pest trying to come eat the wood.

Yes, have to add the sticker to my back drop bro! Corporal is all bark unless you ride your bike over, than he will bite your tires. Lol

Good start on that Black Locust. I’m in the camp that says reduce the deadwood sooner. Not completely, but some.

I think a lot of the deadwood will decay rather quickly, so I actually really like Xav's idea of letting it decay on it's own.

It is such a pain to bend though. 🤣🤣🤣

Nice start to it and as for the deadwood I would just let that rot away naturally. When it gets to the point you like then loads of hardener in mid summer probably :)

That is a great idea Xavier. We will see were nature leads us!

Thats a chunky wire there Matt, cant say ive ever bent somthing with bigger than a 4mm. We have a copse of decent black locust up by a nearby park, nice to walk under in summer. I do know one thing about them....they fix there own nitrogen from the air in their roots....like beans !

It is definitely less fun to get that wire on, but it gives you so many options for shape! That is cool about the nitrogen too. Thank you for teaching me something new!

Lots of choices for sure with this one. Maybe even carve the deadwood down so it looks like it was worn away by the wind and rain. Of course I'm late comment, but Meh... Corporal just can't believe you let people steal the stinkiest, most yummy things from the house! Trash thieves are real!!

That is a wonderful point. I still have the full dead wood that I will most likely work over winter. He does love to get in the trash🤣
