A Yanaha A-700 power amplifier that had some intermittent problems, at higher volume levels the speaker protection relay would open up and re-close. Also had a .8volt DC offset on both channels intermittently. Turns out the factory had missed a couple of ground solder connections. The unit had some fatigued solder connections just from age also.

Gotta tell ya, I've seen some crazy thing come out of the factories, and this was one of them. Another good job on your part.!

Surprised the copyright flagging RU-vid bots haven't flagged this video with the longer clips of music playing. Would hate for you to get in trouble. Another interesting (if not fairly simple) repair. The "no parts required" repairs are always the best kind. That old glue looks like it becomes somewhat corrosive as well as conductive looking at the ends of the resistors around it. Turned them into green crusties by the look of it. Thanks for the fun and informative videos.👍

Repaired same kind of unit here in Finland. All those caps were so bad and tons of bad solderconnections. Many caps i could even pull straight out of the board. Very very nice sounding unit but it goes way to warm. Should have a big fan for trouble free operation.

I'd recommend a muffin fan in the rear of the casing (similar to PC and some plasma TV fans) for cooling and better air-flow.

It's actually a really good amplifier. I bought one for cheap, probably because of these intermittent issues. The protection was cutting in, whenever I moved the volume too fast, or I touched the balance. After fixing all the bad soldering and spraying the balance knob with WD40 (Deoxit didn't to anything) everything went back to normal. Also very important to change all the large capacitors (6 or 8 of them). They go out of spec really really bad, because of the heat inside. It's not too well ventilated.

From the PCB colour, This thing looks old AF, apparently when it was popular to use Lead solder.

As a Heathkit builder for most of my life, I can authoritatively say, the bigger the blob the better the job is utter BS.

"It looks like someone tried to solder these resistors..." probably at the factory judging by the rest.

I have the same Sencor AM-FM stereo analyzer. I really like mine. What is going on around those parts besides the filer capacitors? It looks like there is some corrosion going on.

I have the same amp what does auto class a button do and how many watts in 6 ohms?
@norcal715
@norcal715 4 года назад
Auto class A keeps the amp in a class A state until the audio level reaches approximately 15 watts rms. Watts into 6 ohms, I'm not sure as I do not have the service manual in front of me now. Hifiengine.com states 100 watts into 8ohms so into 6 ohms probably approximately 125 watts

these days they just deleted the QC department. Crap is now breaking around the 2 year mark per design,it's horrible. LG led tv's being a great example of that,every startup they push the backlight well over 100% for at least 5 sec. Great way to make sure they die well before they should and they do.

Why do they do the over 100% start up. Just to damage the LEDS, so miserable. I have some LEDS on order for a LG at this time. Video soon to follow.
