Thanks for the pictures. That was key. I had to do one of these a while back and could not find any video on the process. Nice work.

Weld a washer to race and use a Inner Blind Hole Bearing Puller Set Internal Remover Slide Hammer. Works and you don't mar up the swing arm. Puller is cheap.

I just inherited a 1989 big bear from a family friend. It’s a blast to ride, but I have a weird crunching/groaning sound coming from the rear end that I’ve yet to diagnose. Where do you get your original Yamaha parts from? Also, where would I find the specs for setting backlash on the diff, torque specs, etc? Thank you

Yes they are fun to ride! I get my OEM Yamaha parts from my local dealership. I've never looked up the specs for diff backlash but I suspect they would be in the shop manual. Sometimes, if you ask nicely, the dealership can help you out 😉

I am about to embark on a similar mission. I acquired a 1998 Big Bear 350 from a coworker for $150, it was not running and needed a considerable amount of work, it now runs and I have most of the work done now I just need to tackle the rear drive seals as its leaking motor oil right down through the swing arm, into the rear diff and out the axle seal.... are you able to provide me with dimensions or a photo of that socket? Thanks again!

I have done that job and made a video or two. Check out my playlist: Yamaha Big Bear 350: ru-vid.com/group/PLVPUXguYjwB3ZfrbS837vz0Y61P_UETrB. I can't quite remember which one it was

How complicated and how long does it take to do this job?! I have a 95 kodiak 400 4x4 that I'm gonna have to do this same thing too!! Tia

It's not overly complicated for someone how wrenches from time to time. If you have all the proper tools, it can be done in a day. If you are unfamiliar and taking proper care, a weekend

Doing the pivot bearings are easily done. The input bearing is the one that takes time
