I actually found one of those myself. I was very excited. I haven’t done a video on it yet, but I love that line of synthesizers the 90s rockler versions of the CS line of synthesizer were pretty awesome! I also have a CS 6X, and theAN1X … If I only had an EX5 I would have pretty much every since I ever wanted lol. I have other synths - I just found myself always relying on them when I need a synthesizer for the type of music that I make which is electronic dance.

@@Cap10NRGMusic I wish more synths were laid out like the 1x and 2x. Fairly straightforward, making it simple to modify and create new patches. I got mine for making dungeon synth, because the pads can be lush and dark and the variety of XG sounds are enough to make an album with this one synth.

I agree 1000% - love it and really wish Yamaha would take my advice and either remake an rerelease it or make a VST version. If you’re interested in more content with this device, don’t forget to sub. I’m happy to do more with one of my favorite synths .

Yeah man these keyboards are super underrated! They were amazing sounding and I’m really surprised they didn’t continue on that path. They had a CS1x, CS2x which had twice the polyphony, and a few more sounds… And then they shot up to the CS6X, which was an amazing upgrade, but started to diverge eventually becoming the EX5 which I unfortunately missed out on… used units are too expensive and the ones that aren’t too expensive or too rough of a condition to purchase. But when I got my first CS one X, I was inspired to seriously by two or three more of them just to have around use as extra back of voices and able to make more sound. I didn’t do it of course because you know I also had a budget still do lol but yeah wicked awesome keyboard. If you have any questions hit me up I’d be happy to try and help you out.

Great video. I bought my CS1X back in the 90s but ashamed to say I've been using it as a midi controller only for the last 10 years! You've inspired me to get back into tinkering with the patches. Thanks for the tutorial!
@Cap10NRGMusic

I am so glad to hear that! I love the CS 1X and I do feel it’s severely underrated… Especially when I see people like the bad gear guy kind of dissing it. One of my goals is to actually try to extract all the base sounds out of it and make a virtual instrument that uses them so that people who don’t have a CS 1X can experience kind of the same thing on a virtual basis. I’ve been trying to get Yamaha to bring it back to life as a reface unit, but it hasn’t happened yet. I’ve also thought that they should maybe possibly get into making some VST plug-ins of some of their older synthesizers like this one the CS 2X and the CS 6X… And if they really wanted to go crazy bring back the EX5. I KIND OF THINK THEY’RE OPENING THEIR MINDS TO THE IDEA BECAUSE THEY’RE ACTUALLY BRINGING OUT A SOFTWARE VERSION OF THE MONTAGE in 2024. Definitely give it a shot again man it’s a great synthesizer in the sounds a really coming back around. It’s got a lot of potential and there’s been a lot of interest in it since that video believe it or not it’s pretty awesome. I’m excited if you need anything, hit me up.

My buddy, back home in Boston has the CS2x. I really dug that one too. I never really got a chance to get one before they were off the shelves. I really wish Yamaha would bring them back and modernize them. I think they’d make an excellent reface keyboard, considering how small technology has gotten, I’m sure they could shove the entire circuitry of the CS1X or CS2X into a small 36 key portable device. I’ve actually been trying to pitch that to the guys I know over at Yamaha as a hey if you really want to do something unique bring back the CS x line

@@Cap10NRGMusic I wouldn't get rid of it. The CSx1 has some good features and at the very least makes a decent MIDI controller. I only let mine go because I picked up a Fusion.

Hi … thanks for highlighting some of the programmability of this synth … pretty versatile when you layer stuff. Am trying sequencing using an antique DAW … DR T’s KCS on the Amiga… but always struggling to get it to play back different sounds when I record on different channels 1-16 … leaving 10 free for drums … Am choosing MULTI mode … but what other settings do I need to select to tell the DAW which instrument is which on play back? … It plays drum palate ok … but all other channels recorded just play the instrument last selected on keyboard … even though the rechannel number is different. Guess I’m missing something basic … because my Micron in Multi mode is doing the same … must be a setting in the DAW that needs adjusting me thinks??

Great tutorial. I bought this as my first synth in 2023 and did not regret. I think it does have what you need to get your feet (maybe hands) wet. Learning curve has been fine. I was able to download both the synth manual and the blue book published by Yamaha Europe. Lots of info and guidance. All in all, great synth to start with even in today's digital world.

@@Cap10NRGMusic are you aware of a patch editor and/or compatible PC based DAW that work with the CS1x?
@Cap10NRGMusic
@Cap10NRGMusic 4 месяца назад
@TheCaioKyleBraga are you looking for a patch editor or are you looking for a DAW to use with the CS 1X? If it’s a DAW, you are seeking, they all pretty much work with it. I use it with CUBASE and Reason 12. It’s essentially just a MIDI keyboard and Mitty works with just about everything as far as synthesizers and DAW‘s. if you are looking for a patch editor, those are pretty much gone at this point for that unit because it is kind of old. The patch editor, btw Florian Bomers what is the best for the CS 1X but that hasn’t been updated since Windows 98. I am working on a version,/an editor that will work in reason and allow you to edit patches on the CSX if you want to know when it’s ready subscribe to the channel. I’ll be doing a video on it when it’s done.

Hey Cap, thank you so much, youtube needs more tutorials of this incredible machine. Amazing video. I was wondering if this synth has shortcuts buttons for changing faster the sounds, for playing live it'd be very useful. Can you continue with more videos of the Cs1x or this is pretty all of the functions? Thank you!

Oh, there’s more! Lol yeah, like the loading sounds and patch is exporting patches the different ways to use it with different TW‘s there’s a ton of things to go over for it. Yeah… So yeah there will be more. It’s really funny because at the time of this synthesizer coming on the scene… There wasn’t even google yet let alone RU-vid I had to learn this thing by trial and error anyway yeah I will do more tell your friends :-)

Here's a fun question. CS1-X was my first synth, still have it. Never used the foot pedal option. A friend is going to borrow it to use as a practice piano for a bit. I looked in the manual, but wasn't clear is there a way to have the foot pedal mimic sustain like a traditional piano/electric piano? THANKS!
@Cap10NRGMusic
@Cap10NRGMusic 5 месяцев назад
Hey there yeah I’m pretty sure that that does work. There’s a foot switch foot controller and foot volume on the back. To set those to do what you want them to do you need to use the knobs in the buttons on the matrix. They’re on the front… I would have to look it up. I can’t remember exactly what it is to set those up but the volume pedal will allow you to control volume so you could fade in and out kinda like you would do with an Organ. The foot controller is a pretty much extension to the modulation wheel… It can do modulation or you can use it for something else and map it to some other function I believe, and the foot switch is what you’d be looking for which actually does hold notes you press down… There is no damper pedal, but I can’t remember if you can configure it to work that way or not, but you do have the essentially open keys pedal where the notes continually when you lift the pedal they release. If you want me to share how that works I would be glad to do a video just don’t forget to subscribe to the channel. I would appreciate it.

Where do I find the CS1x editor for Windows?
@Cap10NRGMusic
@Cap10NRGMusic 9 месяцев назад
Hey there - you can get it here www.bome.com/products/cs1xedit however you need to use Win 95/98 to use it there is a way to get it working with XP here www.bome.com/forums/11/116/i-have-cs1x-edit-working-in-win-xp/ though I honestly don't think there is a lot of hope to get it working. I really wish Florian (the gent who wrote the app originally) would rewrite the app - maybe using Javascript now that it is much more capable and could be used to complete the work needed. Don't forget to sub please! Thanks!!
