I'm a DJ / Music Producer making videos talking about and demonstrating audio production techniques, sound design, tips, tricks, and technology! I will also be doing a lot of comparison videos, hardware synths vs software synths - and REs (Rack Extensions) vs VSTs! I will even do Interviews with other producers and musicians here and there!
If you are an aspiring dance music producer, vocalist, or EDM junkie like myself, come along for the ride.
If you have questions, want to collaborate on a project or just want to say hello hit me up, I'm always looking for something to learn, teach, or gain new insight from.
Looking forward to your feedback and participation!!
These are very customizable. There’s a bunch of instruments in here and you can pick two of them and layer them and filter each one independently also envelope each independently to create virtually infinite possible sounds… I only say virtually because I mean there’s definitely a number I don’t know what it is, but it’s probably in the millions or billions… More sounds I’m gonna sit and make I can tell you that right now. But yes, you can create a ton with the synthesizer. If you’d like a more in-depth look at that synthesizer I’d be happy to provide one.
Just please don’t forget to subscribe. I really need more subscribers in order to grow the channel and I have a lot of people asking for videos and then not subscribing. I would really appreciate the kind of exchange since it doesn’t cost you anything lol
Can you use it as a midi host and record other synths on it? Would you use the looper or the sequencer? I preordered mine in September and I’m still waiting :(
@@teamphil I hear you man it took forever. I ordered mine in June of last year… So it’s been a while anyway the yes it can record other instruments and I believe it can be used as midi host. I want to try that feature out with my GT 4000 that’s a video that’s coming up probably this next couple days maybe this weekend possibly the Fourth of July. Very excited to give that thing a world that way because if you can do that with it, and I know you can run the audio into the auxiliary and record that I’ve already tried that that will be amazing as a sound card or audio device for your PC or Mac and the speakers on it are really good like I was like wow my sound really good today lol. They weren’t the monitors they were the speakers coming out of the one which I was like that’s crazy that they sounded good when I say my monitors I’m not talking about good monitors is my good monitor is a KK‘s. These ones are a pair that I bought when I was moving between houses and I bought $100 pair ofinexpensive music monitors from guitar center to have something that worked but still they sounded very good comparing the two.
OK, just so you know part of the verdict here… The USB port on the ELZ_1 play does not provide enough power to drive and power at the same time the JT 4000, that said it doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. I just have to power it separately and get only data from the ELZ - I’m gonna try it that way and see what happens. Either way I will still have a way to record other synthesizes on here, though the ELZ MAY OR MAY NOT WORK WITH ITS USB CONNECTOR TO POWER AND PLAY, USB CONTROLLED MIDI DEVICES (like the Jt4000 which has no midi port, just USB) it does still have MIDI port on it so it still can control of the synthesizers from it and record their audio. I was using it with my SeqTrak to build up some loops - which I then sampled back to the SEQTRAK (these small devices together are insane) and it worked pretty damn well.
@@Cap10NRGMusic intersting. I wonder if you get a splitter for the jt4000 like you would with an iPad, so you can power it and use usb for midi. Good to know the elz_1 can sequence or record the jt4000.
On more thing that most people do not need. I swear the whole music gadget/VST industry is the modern day equivalent to the pan and sluice manufacturers during the various gold rushes.
I can see why you might not need it, but I can also see why you might… It’s pretty cool in the sense that it’s not limited to a number of instruments as most devices are because what it does is it records actual audio as you play. It needs a few things I think, but if you’re looking for a Looper, and a synthesizer… This is a great solution. I think it’s better than the OP1 and probably sonic wears easiest to use device yet. I personally figured out probably 90% of it without the manual.
Hmmnnn....Reason 12 with Focusrite Scarlett Solo, Windows 10 (up to date) AMD Ryzen 5900X 12 Core CPU on Gigabyte X570 AORUS Master motherboard with 32GB of RAM all disks are M.2 NVME's. Lots of pops and audio interference and still when following your suggestions although reduced. The PC is really not under load at all. With the arrival of the free Windows version of Luna the very same VST's and sounds that give me pops in Reason work perfectly even with the buffer size reduced to 32! I've been with Reason since 8....given this issue and the cost of the Reason 13 upgrade I think it's time I move on. I don't want to specifically learn a new DAW but I don't fancy trying to do a re-install of Reason.
No need to reinstall! :) You’re on a PC - go to Preferences, select the audio tab - and now set the buffer to 512. That ought to do it if you have the ASIO driver installed
@@Cap10NRGMusic and as per my comment "Lots of pops and audio interference and still when following your suggestions although reduced." I have tried the buffer at 512, it is better but I still get some pops and I've tried switching the Hyperthreading off as well.........my point is that Luna can run the same VSTs and sounds without pops even when the buffer is set to 32.
just got one. i was surprised by the quality when i amped it up.. i'm wanting to link it up to something else so i was checking them leads you used. thanks for the video dude.
Absolutely man! If you have any questions hit me up you can definitely ask anything about it if you want. I’m pretty familiar with the device overall. I’m actually thinking of modifying mine. I’m not sure yet. I haven’t actually got to that point in time yet, but I was thinking of changing it up so that it had quarter inch jacks on it instead of the headphone jacks And also looking for another way to hook up midi ports to it. Not really via cost-effective or really feasible project… I mean for 50 bucks you can buy the host device I’ve been using and it’s simple to use. But the audio out I really want to not be using the converters to go from the headphone jack to stereo cable… Don’t really need it but my brain just wants it lol
Pretty cool right! All you need to do is hold the note down that you want to change the pitch of and then use the pitch in the effect side of the device. I can make a quick little video to show you.
Lol, don’t make me twist your arm or anything ha ha ha. It’s a good drum machine. I love the build of it. I just wish that it was a one drum machine to rule them all scenario where it was like that build with different machines in it because having all these drum machines is just taking up too much damn room lol. But the 909 is the one I lusted after will say coming out of the 90s and when I finally had the opportunity to get one had to.
I use mine with OPZ. It turned out that OPZ is midi host (and midi "slave" at the same time - magic!). Unfortunately it cannot power this thing, so I need to use some USB C hub - connect it to the power bank, then connect OPZ to it and JT micro to another port. Somehow miraculously it works. It's shame, that we need to jump all those hops however.
@@Cap10NRGMusic Lol, WTF did I write there , lol? I think I meant using Seqtrack to develop a sketch and porting it into Reason to develop it further .. As a WAV file perhaps ?
I actually think this update is one of the most exciting to me as a Reason DAW user. The workflow is faster, the new browser once you get the hang of it is lightning fast, and the little tweaks to the arranger are huge time savers. I upgraded on day one and I couldn't be happier. By the way its as stable as Reason has been in a long long time.
I hope you’re right I would really like to see this product survive… I’ve been using it since version one and before that I used to use rebirth and still have a license of recycle. I love reason. I just really think they could’ve done more with it for $200. That’s what I’m saying you know what I mean, there are still things that it really is in need of and I feel like the effects they added to it are wonderful, but I would’ve rather had them put that time into making the interface even better. Don’t get me wrong. I am getting the upgrade… I just don’t see the need to spend 200 bucks on it today because I know in a few months it’ll be on sale back to school sale or the black Friday sale or the Christmas sale or even the New Year’s sale and it will only be like $99 or $129. It’s just the way they do it you know. And as mentioned, I have a subscription which I buy every year at Christmas for the sound packs because they also have usually one year subscription to reason + for $10 per month… you might even ask why would I bother buying it if I’m paying for a subscription already? The answer is kind of complicated - 1st and foremost as I said, I want the sound packs. And at the current rate that they were releasing them that’s about 12 packs a month so that’s 144 sound packs for $120… That alone is worth it to me secondly, if they do release anything that’s cool synthesize or wise or effect wise, I get it automatically with reason plus… I get to really try it out for as long as I have my license and decide if I actually want to pay for it. Also, I get to show it for the RU-vid channel and I get the updates as they come out, so that’s kind of neat.
@@Cap10NRGMusicI don’t get it though. I thought if you get R+ , you get everything. So I don’t see what the $200 upgrade would get you that + doesn’t . Thanks for the video as always.
@WyattLite-n-inn hey thanks for the question! Ok what the $200 gives you is a permanent license… I know it seems redundant- but here’s the situation, it may not be today - but eventually I’m going to hang up my hat. Stop worrying about having what’s current and just sit on what I have probably, as in retirement when I will most likely drop a lot of subscriptions that I carry (I just dumped Adobe and Safari Books Online last week) and those are great examples of why you buy a permanent license… because now all the work I did with Adobe products, or books that I was reading in Safari books online… Are gone! Yes, gone completely because technically, though the work is still there that I did in adobe Photoshop in illustrator and premiere, and after effects, I don’t have a way to open those projects anymore. As far as Safari goes, which is also known as O’Reilly books online, not to be confused with the browser. I can’t get back into that account technically to continue reading those books, books I purchased are still available, but I’m not allowed to read new books or rent books will call them. And that’s how reason plus works if I decide I don’t want to keep paying… My projects locked me out of them essentially, purchasing a regular reason 13 license for $200 however, I get to open those projects and edit those projects forever without continuing to pay for them. And then I have the option to continue to upgrade to reason 14 or whatever or skip 14 if I think 14 is not very useful, maybe come back at 16 see what I’m saying. Also, most of these items that are in recent 13 that they’ve added to it, don’t super excite me, these new plug-ins have been there for the most part except for the poly tone and the reverb unit. Those two devices are pretty cool now that I’ve got to play with them more. But yeah that’s why I would buy the license though because I could stop and just use it, make music, and be able to open what I made without the monthly fees.
A couple months ago I think… I got it when it came out. I think it’s pretty awesome. I’ve done several videos with it. It has kind of become one of my favorite music sketch devices.
@@HOLLASOUNDS I know I really like the idea of doing a samples type Collab like or kind of I guess not a rip off but something like with Andrew Wong does with the four producers, one sample type thing or four producers one synth… but obviously I mean like smaller scale lol but if you want to do something like that, will you pick a sample and we both make a track around that sample or a pack of samples maybe like five samples maybe that’s the difference we do it with multiple samples maybe some kind of rules where we can only use whatever something in there certain things we could use reason and do something where we make a track with only the new synth or that might be a kind of really wide one. I don’t know something like that there’s a lot of possibilities and then we both like each other stuff like post reference post reference and everybody sees everything and maybe we can get somebody else involved too, I know several other RU-vidrs, who might be interested in it if I put the idea there maybe
I can’t remember if it’s already done or if they’re still doing it, but don’t forget if you haven’t done it already too look into their way of permanently authorizing it. In case you need to reinstall it on something else. Yeah man, I don’t think 13’s really all that special in my opinion personally.
hello, I was trying to download some patches from your download section at your website, but all of them not work - 404 error. Are you going to load it again, please? I will pay for it. thanks, man
Thanks for the video. I've got one Reason patch loaded into Cubase 13. I'm just not certain how to more separate Reason patches. Do I have to add them as separate rack instrument for each one?
Hello @alleyway3215. You’ve got it - I know seems intense like “holy resources” but really it’s not that bad - it seems that somehow there is some kind of cache or something where additional plug in calls don’t use that much more. No idea how they made that happen. Hope that helps don’t forget to subscribe! Hope to see you around bye for now.
I abandoned mine a year or so ago, frustrated that for my usage case it wasn't a winner (my biggest issues were to do with lack of sound design and EQ). Now I've got the Lo-Fi XT and love what they've done with that I'm revisiting this thing to see if it suits my multitracking longform approach...and lo and behold here's you convering just that! 😊
Oh, you got it there that is one thing I really think they missed the boat on there. It’s hard to believe that they didn’t include those kind of features where you could modify your sounds more with this device. However, there are workarounds… But they are workarounds. They are not something that can be easily done using just the SMPLTREK - thanks for the comment though! Hope you’ll subscribe to the channel in spite of not having your device anymore. I cover a lot of different devices so
Compared to previous updates, Reason 13 seems underwhelming not worth $200. The update price was raised from 129 just to make Reason + more valuable, rewarding new users and punishing the vetarans. This is leaving a sour taste in my mouth. I hope they at least consider giving an intro price for those who own Reason 12 already.
Yeah, I think so far the intro price is 199. That’s the update price. It’s $500 for new users. I’m gonna wait until Black Friday to buy it because that’s when it will be like on sale for $99 or $129. Then not getting $200 for this lame update… It’s not even really an update in my opinion. It’s a couple add-ons.
it would have been so cool, if they made the Reason Mixer Black and changed the curves and tone over to an SSL 4000 E and added a 5 Band Stereo EQ and Tape Machine on the Way out before the Audio goes to the G Comp Compressor, at that Point youd be able to master on the Mixer itself...you would get Compression, Saturation and Full Perimetric EQ on the Stereo Signal going to the Out channel
in 2007 I used to say FL was a joke compared to reason now the lack of upgrades and features is a joke ill still get 13 but im also getting an mpc live 2
I just bought one of these, it sounds much better than it should, but I'd pay 2-3 times more if it had MIDI in (even TRS!) and a small built-in battery with a 5hr+ battery life would've been ideal!
And I would prefer a quarter inch jacks instead of the small headphone jack as well lol. But it doesn’t look like Behren is changing their way on this design. They just have a new one coming out called the UB micro. I think it’s a a micro of the Oberheim! Already got one on pre-order hasn’t even been officially announced in the store yet, but I have a guy working on it when it gets there. I’ll have one held price 50 bucks.
Why can’t it? Are you talking about the original MPC one? If you are all you need to do is plug it into a network and it will be able to download to your MPC…
I'm a reason + sub as well so I'll get it, but I wouldn't pay for this as an upgrade, I like Reasons instruments and the players can be useful when you need something to break you out of a rut, but the sequencer and editing are really clunky once you spend some time with Cubase or Logic.
Sorry, not sure what you mean but if you’re saying you need a $50,000 degree in programming to operate it… It’s definitely much easier than that. It’s very straightforward actually! :-)
@@Cap10NRGMusic Meaning the manual was useless. Terrible technical writer on that thing. You explained a lot however. Thank you. To a common idiot like me there's no way I could figure that thing out without direction.
Interesting you say that because I requested access probably 5 seconds after it went up looking for testers and have heard NOTHING not even cap10nrg on their site so…
The DAW updates a new browser that they show in Ryans video it sitting under the selected device within the rack, but in the Superbooth video Mattias shows it as a floating window ontop of everything and thats a problem for Me. I will probably upgrade to 13 simply because doing Reason 12 videos and titling them as Reason 13 isn't going to work due to the UI change. You could get away with making 10 11 and calling it a 12 video basically to get more views.
From what I understand - you cannot. There is no hold down button x y + x, click your heels and do a dance to see the version. When you. “Update” the whole firmware is over written so if you don’t know what you have, download the latest, and install. That’s all you can fo

lol.. sorry you feel that way but that’s the only way. Not my fault I didn’t design the thing come up with something better if you can. The only other way I can think of is to learn to program an Arduino and create an interface, but you’ll still be spending hundreds of hours of time trying to figure out how to make it work. and $25-$45 on the device to make it work so have had it. Why don’t you come up with a better solution if you can
Which patch can’t you get? And which MPC are using? Can you see it on the video which one it is that I’m using or if you want to tell me which one you’re looking at I can try and dig it out for you.
@Cap10NRGMusic just any of the guitar sounds bass or electric... they all sound musically. I'm using MPC LIVE, but U have MPK mini. I have an M-Audio oxygen pro 49 at home. I will try later.
1 midi in, I agree. I would like it a lot more if it cost twice as much but had the same connectivity as the Pro VS Mini or a Volca. It has very cool sounds but it so tiny it is hard to use, not just the tiny keyboard but the tiny knobs and the tiny screen is hard to see. I put off buying it for a long time for these faults but they are so cheap I finally gave in.
Yeah, it’s hard to resist when you can buy hardware at the price of software lol. Only problem with this versus software you can only use one of them whereas with software of course you could have multiple if you want.
So you're saying that you cannot record individual tracks in a live setting with multitrack recording because when one does this it would record track 1 and track 2, onto track 3? Why can't you just press the record button without unmuting any of the tracks?
The two different versions of fabric include all the same sounds. However, the standard fabric sounds are slightly lower quality or a reduced more compressed version personally, I haven’t noticed really any difference in any of the sounds except for maybe a couple piano sounds at very high octaves where you would normally get a bit of aliasing. The reason that they are separated is because you may not want to use as much ram as fabric XL uses on your standard MPC. It’s not that bad if you have a T6 one or the MPCX which have double the ram of your standard MPC’s. Or if you using it on a PC with the software as in like a plug-in, then it’s nothing just use the higher quality versions. But to be honest, I haven’t seen any real reason to even use it. I’ve actually thought of deleting it from my machine to save space. The only reason I haven’t is because I am not hurting for space on my MPC. I hope that helps and yes by the way, I think I said this, but all the sounds that I demo in this video are included. If you have any other questions hit me up! I can honestly say that the MPC key 61 has become indispensable to me and I do have all the plug-ins for it. It’s pretty much my desert island device. I hope that helps. Please don’t forget to subscribe if you enjoyed the video and the the response. Have a great day bye for now.
@@Cap10NRGMusic Yeah, I needed horns and electric guitars. I was reluctant to purchase the fabric collection over the years. Yet it is a necessity now.
Hey there - I thought I responded so I apologize if I did and this is a repeat… but XL is the same library with some of the sounds being higher quality or maybe having additional variations - hence it use more space/ram (thus it’s an extra large version of the library) Overall I don’t find the difference super noticeable.
I mean could it be easier? Maybe. But I don’t find Reason hard to use for the most part, I actually find it pretty intuitive, but I come from a hardware background so… What DAW do you use?
Great video, only wished accessibility for screen reader support was in there. That's where Ableton have shined for me and I'm sure they will be gaining a whole new market share. Perhaps the new Reason browser and sequencer will have some screen reader support, as v12 has less screen reader support than previous versions.
To be honest, that’s an area we could all do better in as far as software support. Nobody thinks they need to support it until they suddenly realize that they needed themselves. All of a sudden these companies realize that it’s a situation that they could’ve been resolving all along. I 100% agree with you. Everyone in Southwood development you really need to do better at this type of thing because, it’s complete vision loss, partial vision, loss, or just degraded vision overtime, I can tell you right now. There were a lot of things that I look at today that I used to be able to read that I can’t really see that well anymore because of my vision changes, I’ve been wearing glasses since I was a child and I can’t see a damn thing without them. Not legally blind, but bad enough that it’s made me think man I really need to do better in my job as a web developer for people who do have real vision problems. It’s not cool to ignore it.

Nice! A quick tip that will save you a world of pain later.. Use the Metronome and head phones when you record the guitar, that way things are mapped out for later when you decide to add on (sorry if this seems obvious, just trying to be helpful).
