Getting The Most Out Of Your Yamaha DGX-670! Video 8: Workaround For Sheet Music In One Clef
Have you looked at the on screen sheet music for your MIDI recordings and it's all in one clef, or you have 2 bass clefs or 2 treble clefs? In this video, I show a workaround for MOSTLY fixing these issues (which also helps fix the same issues in the Yamaha Smart Pianist app).

I found that when I download midi files from the internet, and then transfer them to the DGX-670 with a flash drive, I can have the DGX play them and display the score / sheet music. But with most piano midi files I tried, it would display everything in one clef. This happened even when the right hand / left hand parts were in separate tracks of the midi file. Finally figured out that the right / left parts need to be on separate midi channels of the midi file for it to display correctly. Midi file editing software can be used to put a specific track on a different channel to work around this problem. This is useful to me with the DGX-670 for practice mode with "guide" function, where you play one hand and the keyboard plays the other hand for you (without getting ahead of you).

I just purchased this keyboard for the notation and MIDI capabilities with the express purpose of having the lesson mode and the real time display of sheet music. I hope this will be an instrumental tool in helping me learn to sight read. The capability to record and have instant notation seems like an extremely useful composition tool. My hope is to bring over my own MIDI files and learn to play them

Hello again, Tony. I too appreciate the in-depth tutoring you are providing. I want to be able to export the data about what notes I am playing at any given point to Pro Tools and/or Studio One digital audio workstations, primarily to have a record of what I played during improvisations or to import into a notation program. Have you yet determined what plugging the DGX to a computer does? The manual makes it sound like data can be transferred after downloading the Steinberg driver. I plugged mine up earlier today and downloaded the driver but haven't tried to use it yet. If you have any info on this application I would appreciate any assistance you might want to post. Thanks, John.

You should be able to save your MIDI recordings to your flash drive then import them into whatever MIDI apps you are using

I really appreciate your in-depth videos. Do you know if there is a way to export the sheet music/score to some kind of file to be viewed/edited on the computer or printed? Or is it better to run the midi/WAV file through some software to create the sheet music? Thanks!

Not that I know of - like you say though, the MIDI files can be saved to a USB flash drive and there are probably tons of programs out there that can do that. Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe

Thanks! Yep, tons of applications. It does not make it easier... I'm trying to shape a creative workflow for my son to stimulate further learning and maybe add composing/mixing music. Adding a digital segment maybe also could fulfill the need for "gaming", and maybe I could drag his younger brother into this world as well. :-)) Not being a real musician myself makes that a bit challenging. Exploring all the possibilities/non-possibilities of the DGX-670 is just one piece of the puzzle. But your videos help to create an outline for me. :-) Thanks!
