Yamaha DGX670 Overview 

I got a new DGX 670 yesterday 26 June 2024. Looking at this video presentation, I am convinced I have made the right choice. Hurrah! Hurrah!! Hurrah!!!

I got my DGX-670 two weeks ago. I am amazed by this incredible instrument. For 25 years I've been longing for and dreaming of a portable piano with such a versatility!! It has such a beautiful sound and so many configurable settings. Really awesome!!. Thanks Yamaha ❤️❤️❤️

The super-articulation capability is a great feature to add to this pro-consumer level keyboard. It is nice to see many of the features of high-quality virtual pianos emulated in the keyboard system. The simplicity of digital pianos like the P-45 and P-125 is elegant but ultimately limiting to the player and student.

good morning, I have heard that the dgx 650 greeted the part of the keys badly, they say they are damaged, I would like to know the experience they have had with the dgx 670

Gabe, thanks for the reply. I agree it's a great instrument. I'm a bit of a noob to digital keyboards. Plus I'm a home hobbyist (who may want to market some original sounds). I mention that because I'm not a pro. I don't gig, at least for now. I do have some worthy original songs which I am certain could be greatly enhanced with all the features available on the DGX-670, but they are just way over my head, and as one who only gets dedicated time to learn [I think I'm the target market for this keyboard], the documentation really needs fixed. In addition to the advanced stuff, things that should be ultra-simple are hard to understand. It took forever for me to figure out how to record vocals layered over my recorded piano. Other examples... I read the instructions for (1) how to use Bluetooth and (2) how to connect the DGX-670 to a Wii network. They are practically indiscernible. Still haven't figured those out. Again, I write in my spare time. I have a friend who has a Yamaha Tyros 5. Only 76 semi-weighted keys and and I like a full 88 weighted keys, but it has a very nice built-in display where everything is easy to figure out. I'm sure that's why it costs much more, but the documentation for the DGX-670 should at least be discernible. Anyway, for the record, I love "playing piano" on this piano, and I like digitally recording my songs to USB. But the rest of its features are so poorly documented that I may never get the real value out of this that I would love to have as a songwriter and performer, and much of my investment seems wasted due to very inadequate documentation.

I'm a noob. Please be patient. How do I accomplish the following tasks: (1) Record a song on the keyboard (2) Save it (3) Play back that recorded song while I sing the lyrics through a mic that's attached to the keyboard (4) Create a digital file on my thumb drive that has the complete song - keyboard and voice together This is my first modern electric keyboard. I'm a singer-songwriter, not much of a performer. Most of my experience is with acoustic pianos.My only electronic keyboard experience, and not much of it, was from many years before sampled sounds were a thing. I find the controls to be confusing to the inexperienced. You'd be doing an old guy a favor if you could help me with this. So far I haven't found clear instructions for this in the manual, and no videos for it either (opportunity for someone?)

Super impressive demo you are a great player and a musician. I have one question can we assign modulation to the pedal and one more question key actions is tri-sensor or not? How can you see chords without backing tracks?" Can we just choose a piano sound and try to work out the chord on our own? For example, if we flat the 3rd in real time we would see it go to a minor chord and then if we sharpen it we would see it go back to a major chord. Is that possible on the 670?

any news on when an upgrade is due out, say the DGX-680? On average the DGX has upgraded every 3 years. Perhaps I need to wait til 2024 for the 680?

I have looked at other videos on this model. This is the best. Other people have said that the sounds are not up to their expectations. Well on a smartphone the sounds are not as deep as per say Yamaha Monitors with a sub. No this does not cost as much as my Montage8. My expectations are realistic. My 10 year old daughter wants to write music and arrange. While I work on projects she can use this DGX to play any complex song and keep going. To me some other models should have had 88 keys. MIDI in and out would have been nice. I can work around that. The sounds should live up to what Yamaha does. Ew-410 surprised me when a individual brought it in the studio.

I don't know why Yamaha do not market this as an integrated music studio. The fact that you can record ( totally hiss free ) onto a pen and then transfer this onto disk via a laptop with totally loss free quality. Had you a conventional piano you would need expensive microphones and a separate recording device then transfer onto disk. The results I get from my DGX650 are quite stunning and in a " blind " test would be mistaken for some massively expensive kit . The DGX Yamaha pianos are a truly serious instrument .

Does anybody know a good alternative to the Yamaha DGX series? Because from what I can tell the DGX series has over 600 different instruments and other portable digital pianos don't offer anywhere near the level of voices? The only thing I can imagine comes close is the Casio PX560 which is no discontinued. I'm looking for something like the Yamaha DGX 660/670 but perhaps with better speakers and a better keyboard in terms of the touch. Can somebody help?

Hi Gabriel, thank you for your review of the DGX670. I bought my DGX 670 in January 2023. At the time, I tried, without success, to access Yamaha Inc., via the links supplied in the manual supplied. I was forced to give up as I found Yamaha South Africa impossible to access. I was wanting & still want to access digital sheet music as I haven't played regularly for about 40 years. I can read music for the right hand, but given that I was taught on an electronic organ, my tutors supplied sheet music with the chords written as ABCDEFG, etc. So this is the sheet music that I am trying to access. Are you able to send me any links ? [As you are aware, the DGX 670 allows users to play chords single-lingered & as held triads for lazy users. It is this sheet music that users like me are needing to access] Thanks if you are able to guide me]

GUIDANCE PLEASE: USB display. At the advice of a BLIND piano player friend, I bought a printer cable with a USB plug. H said that should allow me to connect the piano and the DGX670's display on my Tablet as they are with his Yaros. That is not what I'm experiencing. Was he way off, or is there something I missed?

My keyboard transposed with my command what could be that error?

7:22 the CFX grand probably doesn't sound too well using the built in speakers, but will be great using external speakers (think 40W or 60W total or above)... or a good headphone... but it sounds great hearing it on RU-vid using a MacBook Air M1 or MacBook Pro 14 M1... so what does that mean? Theoretically, the piano should be able to produce such great sound if it is using the same speakers on the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, and those are like 10W or less speakers... but those speakers are probably quite expensive... not suitable for the EZ300 at a low price, but maybe better if it is on the DGX670 or future models... or even the P125...

Visiting India for a few months, I was very lucky to find this model, the DGX670. Very hard to find! It is just awesome a digital piano. In the USA I bought a Kawai ES920 last year. The Yamaha is superior in terms of ease of finding rhythms (called Styles). With the Kawai, you have to painstakingly scroll through a hundred rhythms to find what you want. Also, the AUX input volume can be adjusted (and the onboard sound lowered or silence) which is grand while using music apps like Piano Marvel (I tried FlowKey but chose Piano Marvel) on a laptop. Can't do that with the Kawai, plus when I plug my laptop audio out into the Kawai, I get a buzzing sound. Yamaha uses a feature called Noise Gate to avoid this buzzing. I connect my laptop to an external speaker while playing the Kawai ES920. If I have to choose between the two pianos, I say without hesitation: the DGX670 is the way to go.

This can be a good stage piano???

It is a lovely instrument. I keep very nearly buying it. The thing that stops me every time is the lack of line out ports to connect to an external PA or mixer. I don’t understand why you would make an instrument that can do so much and leave out this crucial feature that all of the competitors have. That 1/8 inch port for headphones is not enough. And you guys KNOW this! You have been in the business longer than most. And you have made amazing products the entire time. I do not understand why you would do this.

bought one and very satisfied with sound . However : I disagree it's suitable for live performanve ( unless you have a roadie with a van an a very strong back ...) . It really isn't "portable " .Other than that : very good instrument with huge amount of settings

I love my Yamaha DGX-670, BUT... Full disclosure, I am a piano player singer songwriter and THIS IS MY FIRST ELECTRONIC PIANO (I piddled with a cheap Casio and a 30 year old Korg years ago, but those are completely different categories). Until now, I have been only playing a Yamaha Baby Grand. I do love this thing, but here is the BIG BUT... the layout and controls are not intuitive and require too many non-obvious steps, and the documentation is TERRIBLE. It is spread out all over the place. You get one small document in the box, but there are two others that you have to download and print. Really? Yamaha can't afford to print it all for me? Because of the number of pages I had Staples print and bind for me, and that costed $100+. But that is not the worst part. Not only is the documentation terrible and spread out among 3 documents you have to print, the documentation is confusingly written. It includes a huge number of poorly created images without many words, and who knows which document or page has what you need? This is a starter electronic piano, right? But there are so many features, which is great. But they are not easy to find or identify on the piano itself... several features require pushing this and that, which is fine except it is hard to know where "this and that" are. I love you, Yamaha, but you let me down expensively. Giving Yamaha the benefit of the doubt, the DGX line has grown in features over the years but little consideration has been given to usability and documentation. Why not allow me to control it from a tablet computer like an ipad or Samsung tablet? I know some of your lesser keyboards have that. Yamaha, you have let me down in a great big way.

This piano ain't worth it......same horrible action...ghs been the same for nearly 20 years....everyone has updated and improved the actions...yamaha has better actions but continue to milk it, typical yamaha.......never take advice on a product from the company who sells it.....the review is unrealistic....wait until it comes out and others leave reviews on it.
