This is one of my fav 4-OP FM synths. After owning the Yamaha TQ5 for many years I wanted some keys with that synthesis and - Voila! The Yamaha DS55 can receive all sysex MIDI presets from TQ5/YS200/YS100/B200 but it has only simple digital delay instead of editable digital FX as on TQ5 (and other models). With BigSky DS55 sounds fantastique!
So, DS55 is an 8 polyphonic FM synth from 1988. with 8 multitimbral functions. It also has some type of very limited auto-arrangement possibilities (called Auto Performance). There is a limited arpeggiator too. The FX section has a Delay On/Off button with a Long/Short option. It has a Delay Feedback potentiometer on the back of the synth (very strange option). Keys are velocity responsible but without aftertouch (the same as YS100). There is no memory card input (all other models have it) and the LCD has 16x2 characters and has no backlight. DS55 is very, very light. There are two ROM banks with 200 presets and one User bank with 100 presets. There is an option for "Easy Edit" but the full sound editing is possible with external editors.

All sounds are recorded directly from DS55 to Tascam DR-05x recorder in 24bit/96kHz resolution, with Strymon BigSky FX processing.
