I got mine delivered to me the other day, and I absolutely love it! I already had the Yamaha DTX II extreme (which I also love), but always wanted to “acoustic feel”. This really solves the issue for me. I’m getting some additional triggers to beef up my sound. My next thing is learning to use the “rec n’ share” app I also downloaded on my iPhone 8+. Overall...I’m VERY happy. Once again...Yamaha hits a Home Run!

One of the best videos for the EAD's actual results, but I'm sure there's an audience that would say that kit and setup would sound awesome just the same... That's the first thing that came to mind... BUT..... We just bought one for a basic micro kit Sonor SQ and I can challenge your lovely black Yamaha, biased of course.. Any drummer who just doesn't want to give up the dynamics of a real kit ... just get one!

I can hear in this video what I've been reading from users, which is that the centrally located mics don't do a great job of picking up the hi hat. And the snare has a definite "underside" sound to it. I had been hoping this might be a one-stop solution to mic'ing my kit for live performance, but I'm doubtful at this point.

Don’t do it!!!!!. I was thinking the same thing for a live setting!!!!. This will NOT sound like this in a live setting!!! ALL of these type ☝️ videos you are hearing what they sound like through the head set mix… this is DEFINITELY more toward hearing yourself and making videos for up loading!!!. This thing SUX for live venues!!!!. I’m boxing mine up and selling on EBAY and going backing to the standard ole Shure 57’s and 52!☝️🤔 I’m VERY disappointed in this for live music!!!. It’s perfect if you wanna blast the house with a screaming ass loud RIDE CYMBAL!!!🤬!!!!

I’ve used mine in a live setting and ironed out the balance issues. It’s great for small bar gigs but it’s not really going to cut it in big rooms. Saying that, if you’re playing big places then you’re either using the house rig and sound engineer or your own engineer and truck load of PA gear. I found the acoustic bass drum sound picked up to be quiet, so a sound check would consist of getting a sound with that mixed with trigger - very quick - then work on bringing up the level of the top mics. Yes, you can adjust the individual sensitivity of L&R mics and even take them down to a minus level. Yes, it is a ‘top heavy’ arrangement so I find opting for a triggered bass drum and then bringing up the top mics to a balance is the way to go. It seems to me Yamaha must have realised the bass drum was always going to be the loser in the way the kit got picked up, hence the trigger below. If you’re a purist who will only accept a pure acoustic bass drum sound then this isn’t really going to cut it. But if you’re prepared to use 90% trigger for the BD then you have the power to control the sensitivity of the top mics. If you’re a heavy player and lay into your Ride cymbal or it’s particularly ’washy’ then the spill into that side will be loud. But it will be possible to take down the level of the mic on the ride cymbal side to compensate. No, it’s not a replacement for a fully miked up kit scenario, but if you’re just doing bars and wedding type venues it’ll be fine and is less hassle than a full miking scenario. At that level of engagement the audience aren’t really going to be bothered because they’re only looking at the singer anyway!

SUPER hard to find ANY right now, because of covid. I called guitar center where I live, and they had FIFTY SEVEN backorders for them, with no expectations of when they might ship out next. Especially since it involves the Asian market. Here's a hint: find one remaining in a personal collection already in the states. I just bought one of the last new ones on eBay 4 days ago, that was in a mom and pop drum shop in Kansas City, called "ExplorersPercussion". I got their last one they had in stock, but saw another seller on ebay that had 8-10 left. They're going quick, especially with the lockdowns, gig cancelations, recording studios not booking ppl, etc. It's invaluable if you're puttsing around the home studio and want an easy way to record yourself or mic in live contexts. Ebay has been the only place I've found ppl still selling new ones unopened for 499. A bunch of other ppl are trying to get list price for them ($650), or are selling open box units for around 300-350. Good luck! Thing is a blast!

The trigger is obviously for the kick drum. The mics are for the whole kit.
@JasonWelchMusic
@JasonWelchMusic 6 лет назад
Im really considering this. Can you use kick from, scene 1, snare from scene 2, toms from scene 3, three zone pad from kit 4...... or any other combination? If so, lm probably sold on this. My origional thought was to use a roland td50 with superior drummer on acoustic drums with acoustic heads and real cymbals. Then mic the drums and place overheads too, so l can record the mics and td50 simultaneously. Then just use the faders on my daw to mix them for desired effect. It almost seems like the ead10 system can somewhat duplicate the same process all within itself. Hopefully if l buy this, more acoustic sounding scenes will be added in future updates.

yes, you can do it all with 700 built ins, to any trigger, then control the mix and vol, even tap the source like a digital kit to re-assign. AND... we plugged in a Roland Kick SPD-1 percussion pad and it turned into a trigger

a couple nice features, but not anything new a roland eventually will have to do, depending on how you record live, or play live ..The engineers will take over from there, and hopefully give you the best monitoring of play you’ve ever experienced. This unit is good for you young bucks to start cyborging yourselves. i used to make my own triggers, and you will soon learn what sound balance means adjusting them to acoustic drums…get in to it! it’s a great and fun thing. Until another player or two, just drowns it all out all the time being too loud and not caring about an overall balance… My recommendation for that as hard as it might be, is replacing that person. ..because.. How will you ever make good music if it’s going to have the famous “ima loud star whackadoodle dude” problem..haha. ya. that dude.
