Great review! I have the FGX800C, I got lucky with my copy because it sounds really good especially if you replace it with bluegrass strings, action's quite high from the factory, but simple saddle sanding solved it, tuning is very stable too. I would've opted for this Yamaha's model, but it was out of my budget that time. This Fender model sounds more in your face, has defined notes, but the Yamaha is more balanced, warmer, and more traditional sounding. Aesthetic wise, for an acoustic, the headstock looks wrong on the Fender, but different strokes for different folks.

Both sound great! Fender is more like a closed off cold and rough, the Yamaha is more of a bright clean and bold I personally prefer the Yamaha but great comparison

I think the Fender just sounds alive, like more strikingly raw. But I’m also hypnotized by the Hot Rod Red, the guitar just looks like it creates happiness lol I have a Yamaha APX600...but trading her in for a Newporter Classic

I am saving my pennies for a Yamaha LS56. I currently own the LS-TA, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. You cannot go wrong with Yamaha...for boat motors, dirt bikes, or acoustic/electric guitars! Peace, Chris. 🐰💙🇺🇸🎸🎶🤝✌️

Both sound great. The Fender is all solid wood. I find it difficult to compare these 2 guitars to each other. I would use the Fender one style of music and the Yamaha for another style of music. But again, both great guitars and another great demo.

Man their is no comparison. The Yamaha sounds so much better. It sounds warmer and fuller than the Fender. I'm so glad I am going to buy an FGX820C Because I know it is going to sound just like the 830. Thanks for the vid.

Warmer than fender? Fender sounds like your are in beach whit a wood fire, playing for your friends. Yamaha sounds like your playing in a metalic stage, expressionlessly bright. I think the sensations are not well connected with the tastes. An electroacoustic guitar appeals to another feeling, It's not to decorate a song X (yamaha) it is to play and present "a song". I would put it like this: Fender = body and soul. Yamaha = body without soul.

I’m wanting the Fender to be better, but the Yammy had a warmer, fuller sound. Probably helped that the Yam was in tune and the Fender not as much ... really noticeable on the picking.

Ok…. I finally bought one after playing many. The Redondo Classic Almost fit the bill. I have a lot of incredible guitars. Martin D28, Gibson Hummingbird and a Guild 12 string. What I was searching for was an addition that was bright, punchy, good electronics and a super fast neck. I ended up trying a Fender Redondo Player. Solid top, but the laminate back and sides, strangely gave me the tone and cut that I was looking for. I struggled with 3 things. 1) buying a Fender acoustic. All previous models to the California series were laughable wall hangers at best. 2) Buying an imported guitar. 3) Buying anything that did not have solid wood. After I played this thing, I no longer cared. It was only $400.00, not that this had any influence on my decision. I for one am very impressed

In case you haven't decided yet in case you are a beginner or intermediate Yamahas are also more playable. In the sense their action will be lower making it easier to fret chords and move around the neck. I would also suggest getting the guitar set up by a local luthier. few millimeter adjustments in truss rod and string action improve playability a 100 times. And of course I have like 4 yamahas(nylon string, steel string dreadnought, electric acoustic and electric) my guitar learning took off once I discovered yamaha guitars.

Without a doubt the Yamaha sounds much sweeter... I played a Fender Malibu and a Newport at a music store just earlier today, and they both sounded cheap and stiff, like they were made of plastic. That Redondo sounds better, but it still has that stiff, dead sound. Fender should stick to what they do best.
