I have both a r1200rt and fjr1300. Had the bmw 3 years before the yami. The bmw has such a sweet and smooth suspension. It also has a lower center of gravity. This makes the ride very easy... Especially in tight, slow speed conditions. The bmw also has much more sturdy components - handlebar controls/switches are much better quality. HOWEVER, Yamis don't leave you stranded on highways. The bmw rear final drive blew after 35k miles. It took $7k to get her home and running again! Sooo, I don't trust her any more. I only take the bmw on short rides and I now take only the fjr across country!
Hello from Denver Colorado. Thanks for the review. I really enjoy reviews coming from other countries. I'm thinking about upgrading to a Yamaha FJR or an BMW RT this spring. It's helpful to find unbiased reviews that are not fake infomercials. All my riding buddies own Harley Davidson Road Glides. I can't see myself getting one of those ( to slow) and I can't stand the thought of getting a tattoo, and my wife refuses to ride pillion without a tight fitting brassiere and leather jacket!
Hi Kevbo, glad you appreciated the review! I appreciate comments from other countries, it's great to be able to share an interest with people from all over the world! I'm also, like you, a person with no tattoos at all, Im always saying that if you want to be unique on the beach, you shouldn't have any tattoos ;-) Regarding the Yamaha FJR 1300, I liked it so much that I actually bought it! The BMW RT is also a very nice motorcycle, but if something breaks on the RT it will cost a lot of money.
Hello Sam, yes my gear box also do this sound seems to be perfectly normal if your changing the gears without been in the right rev :) thank you for your feedback and let me tell you this feeling about the bike would grow on you more and more after each ride, like you I also like the engin noise and I also would like a gears indicator:) enjoy your ride the ST seems to me a gorgeous bike too:).David
Hello David! Nice to hear that there is nothing wrong with the gearbox, I actually bought the bike!! 🙂 More on that on my channel in the near future! Your bike looks really nice and thanks for your videos, also thanks for checking out my channel!
I am looking out for one now, no rush I want a good one for a good price. Not sure what age to get, I really fancy cruise control so 2013 onward for that but price is a bit steep and still losing value in depreciation, an old one might be better maybe? Early ones did have heat problem and no abs but faster as lighter, tough decisions lol.
Yes it is has a somewhat "clunky gearbox", but not as clunky as BMW in my opinion... If you ride it in a sporty maner it shifts smooth an silently. I have noticed from YT-replies and testing that you should change gear at aprox 3500rpm and not before that, then you get the smooth gearchanges. It's not a big deal, you get used to it. If you buy a FJR from 2016 you get the six-speed gearbox that i've heard will not have the clunky sound as the older models. But be aware that this six speed gearbox had a recall due to problems with the second gear, so make shure Yamaha have fixed this. The FJR1300 is unfortunatly a dying breed due to emission rules and they have stoped the production for Europe . But you can still buy one (you could get a brand new 2021 model in Sweden) and ride it like you stole it ;-)
You just told the biggest lie about that seat my brother bought one brand new and that's the first thing he got rid of that seat he said it's a nightmare😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I guess everyone is built differently. I have no problem with the seat, but I know a lot of people complain about it. For me it works great and I have ridden long distances. Ride a Kawasaki Vulcan S (Which was my last motorcycle) for more than 100km and you will know what a bad seat is! 😂
