Yamaha Grizzly 450 Machined Sheave And Grease-Less Clutch Install Redux

My New Edit of the tear down and installation of the clutch on my Yamaha Grizzly 450. I cut out some footage and edited back in some deleted content. By doing this I was able to create a single video instead of the original 2. We installed a machined sheave, 1mm shim, EPI blue 2ndary spring and converted the clutch to grease-less using Dr. Pulley Grease-less rollers and sliders.

Clean, effective, and efficient. One hell of a job! I have a 2003 yamaha kodiak 400 4x4 and have noticed grease spun inside the clutch cover. I didn't know where this came from until I watched this video. I plan to install the highlifter outlaw clutch kit soon and I will be watching this video making sure everything is back together properly! You did an awesome job, thanks for the time and effort you spent on this video,

Thanks for the revving demo. Working on my first belt drive with sheaves, and wasnt sure how the belt should move on acceleration. thanks again.

Thank you for the video! I have a 2009 wolverine 450 and i had my sheave machined with 16grams greasless weights and sliders. After i bought a dynojet kit+hmf exhaust+K&N filter. My dream came true! Low end power and a 57MPH to speed! Thank you very much Grizzlrider.

Cant say thanks enough for this video. I had to take my 660 apart and clean and regrease it since I flooded my CVT in a mudhole. This video was a huge help for me to unassemble and reassemble it. Thanks!!!!!

Thanks for the comment. I'm really wanting to do this to my bike. Recently bought larger tires... and I'm going to get the new clutch assembly from EPI. I'm just worried that I'm getting in a bit over my head. I've never really messed with these things. Great video though. Lots of information.

Pretty much answered your own question. Less mess, and more time between servicing. It's nice especially if you are always swapping different weights or shims around as well.

Depends on the weight of the tires and what you are looking to accomplish with the set up. You probably would only need a Blue spring since it's only 26" tires. The roller weights I used were the 12 gram rollers. Helps get through the mid range quicker but being lighter it revs a bit higher. Definitely a big difference from stock. The sliders should be the ones they list for the grizzly 660

@ttjafi The blue secondary spring, and roller weights needed would be different for your 660. The set I used works good for just the 450s

A lot of guys use the old grizzly grease from dealers or BelRay. Any marine grade high temp grease is sufficient though. You apply like a teaspoon inside each roller ramp.

From UTV Inc. but you can get them from ebay as well. They are sold on ebay as 1.5mm shim kits. 1-1mm and 1-.5mm shim. I am only running the 1mm but will probably add .5mm next time I do some work on the 450. Just be sure if you are going to use 1.5mm that there is still spline showing on the shaft when you reassemble the sheaves or you can damage your shaft and sheaves.
@GRIZZLYRIDERS2010
@GRIZZLYRIDERS2010 12 лет назад
I ordered all the clutch parts from UTV Inc. You can probably save a few bucks by ordering them from different sources though. The machined sheave is a UTV INC. part, the secondary spring is from EPI, the grease-less sliders and rollers are DR Pully (available from multiple sources and the shims can be bought everywhere and even on Ebay. Not snorkeled yet but will be soon.

@GRIZZLYRIDERS2010
@GRIZZLYRIDERS2010 12 лет назад
Yes they do sell everything, just not as a complete kit. You have to order each part individually. The Grizzly 450 and Rhino 450 use the same OEM sheave so look under the rhino section on UTV Inc's site. The sliders for the 450 are the same as the 660 and the rollers are the same across all models, just pick what weight you want them in.

Hey I installed this with 2mm washers Because that's all I had around the bike goes into gear good the splines showed when I put the primary clutch on .. but when the bike is in any gear except park or nuetral it sounds like something is eating itself not in a loud grinding way but it's more like a howling sound .. idk if that's because of the plate that has the fins on it or because of the rollers .. I added a good amount of grease to the rollers and the rest of the inner primary huh but this didn't fix that noise I'm curious .. it maybe be he actually clutch inside not getting enough oil which is what I'm thinking

I got mine from UTV Inc a while ago along with the sheave. Plenty of places sell the sliders and rollers now but I am not sure anyone sells a machined sheave for a 350. It's a different part number than the 450 so mine wouldn't work for you. Try contacting WVHotRodRhino here on RU-vid to see if he does one for the 350 if not then try looking up Coop45 clutch mods and see if he has ever machined one.

I have a 07 450 grizzly, I installed EPI clutch stall springs, and I am trying to get a new secondary spring and clutch weights, was wondering can I and should I go grease less cause it looks like it will only cost about $28 more for sliders to go grease less but I was wanting to use stock sheave, is that ok or do you need a custom sheave to go grease less, and what color secondary spring should I use, I ride in the thick mud and water. Thank you
@GRIZZLYRIDERS2010
@GRIZZLYRIDERS2010 9 лет назад
Yeah you could go with the greaseless rollers and sliders on the stock sheave. Most people with 450s run the epi blue secondary spring or orange. I am running the blue spring but really don't ride much mud. If you google " which grizzly 450 secondary springs" you'll get a lot of info on different setups geared for specific types of riding. If you don't have a shim already installed you may want to add one as well while you're in there. It will give you added low end grunt but sacrifice some top end.

@GRIZZLYRIDERS2010
@GRIZZLYRIDERS2010 9 лет назад
DJ Pa If you are a mudder than yes springs will help with stall. If not no. Yes a machined sheave or shim, or both will give you more low end power. I wouldn't buy a UTV Inc sheave now though cause there are other companies out there worth considering. Look at JBS performance or Coop45. Changing the stock sliders and rollers to greaseless will do nothing except make it greaseless. If you change the roller weight from stock then it will effect performance. Check any atv forum out there and there are 1000s of threads dedicated to the pros and cons of clutch mods and how to understand what each mod alters when done.
