In this video i removed the OEM carb and installed a new aftermarket carb purchased from Amazon.
To remove the carburetor is not difficult. It is pretty straight forward, just remove anything attached to it and can pull it out. Throttle cable removal is some what tricky, if you’ve never done it before. That process is explained in the video.
After installing the new aftermarket carb, and starting up the Grizzly, I need to make a couple small adjustments: throttle cable and the curb idle.
So far this aftermarket carb has been preforming very well, dispute its reputation from others experiences posted in forums on the internet.

Thanks for this video!! 9:14 At 9:14, what is the black hose to the right of the carb connecting to the engine via a clamp? It comes from the other side of the engine? My hose is disconnected, looks like fuel corroded the metal and it broke. Not sure what it does?
@MichaelEd
@MichaelEd 4 месяца назад
@9:14 in the video the cable on the right is the throttle cable. The hose coming from the bottom region is the curb idle screw adjustment the comes around to the other side of the carb. Did this help?

@@MichaelEd thank you!!! Todays gas just eats these carbs if you let them sit.

@@Enjoytheinbetween yes Sir, 87 ethanol blend is straight garabage for these small engines with carbs. I run ethanol free as much as possible, if not 97 octane from the pump. No long term storage! Run your quad out of fuel when not in use has been the best way for me to help assure it’ll start up after it’s been stored or not used in months. Boats, lawnmowers, chainsaws, etc. Run’’‘em outta fuel if not use soon. 👍

Do you know if that carb is adjustable? My original 2003 carb was replaced by an Amazon carb, doesn’t look like you can adjust the jets?
@MichaelEd
@MichaelEd 4 месяца назад
2003 jets are not adjustable, you have to change them out if needed. Altitude elevation and clutch springs usually dictate jet replacement. The only adjustments I know of on the carb is curb idle, throttle cable, and air/fuel. * that one is located on the bottom of the carb up in a hole. It’s should be a flathead style screw and it right past the float bowl and before the intake boot. Loosen your intake boot clamp on the carb side and also the clamp on the carb where the air box connects, you can turn you carb towards the side and maybe see the air/fuel adjustment screw. Be mindful the your choke cable, throttle cable and other hoses are still connected when and after doing this. I hope this helps out? 👍

What exhaust tip is that? Also, any carb adjustments for running that tip? Stock muffler?
@MichaelEd
@MichaelEd 5 месяцев назад
It’s just a R2 tip. Got it years ago off of eBay. I have a couple videos posted before this one just on the exhaust tip on the channel. I haven’t made any adjustments to the oem and not any yet to the new aftermarket carb. Yes stock muffler.👍

How did u connect the choke cable, I bought the atracypart carb.
@MichaelEd
@MichaelEd 4 месяца назад
It should screw into the same spot as before. Time stamp 6:23 on mine had a new screw connector, I removed the new one and just reused my original that was still connect to the end on my choke cable. Choke port for cable should be on the driver left side of the carb, just above where the thumb curb idle adjustment is located. ⚠️caution⚠️: That connector is plastic screwing into aluminum. You can easily damage those plastic threads when installing and tightening. Might wanna install by hand only. Just my advice.👍

There have been customer's units that I had to put chinese aftermarket carbs on - due to either unavailable OEMs or the customer just wanted a cheaper route - and invariably, I would spend more time and effort replacing wrong sized jets or troubleshooting defective carburetors than if I"d just rebuilt the original OEM to begin with.

I have used those carbs in my 2000 Grizzly 600 3 times. They last one year then crap out and have to replace. Maybe it's because I use ethanol fuel. Good video but I can add one thing. Much easier if you remove fuel tank. Easier to get at everything. I only know that from doing it often. Not being cheeky

How many hours of driving will your fuel tank last?
@MichaelEd
@MichaelEd 3 месяца назад
Man I’m not exactly sure. Last time I went riding on trails, we ( as a group ) rode for several hours, including stops, and making it back to the beginning without running out of fuel. Running pretty low but never ran out.

What Amazon carb did you buy? There are a few on there.
@MichaelEd

The carb I purchased is no longer listed. I bought it about 2 years before this video. It was thirty-something dollars and I added an air filter that totaled out to be fifty-something dollars. I was looking at what is offered now and it looks like they include the air filter, fuel filter and even a new spark plug for about what I paid for but not with the extras like what offered. I know mine is not the Niche brand, but I think “in my own personal opinion” as long as it matches your carb you should be fine. I don’t know your grizzly spec, model, year. Mine is just the base 660 YFM660FR and the carb part number for mine is: 5KM-14901-10-00 You can cross reference with Yamaha and Partzilla to help make sure your getting the right carb when purchasing from Amazon or eBay. I am truly sorry that my purchase is no longer available to share. I hope my response is helpful. Thanks for commenting, and watching this video. I will make a new grizzly video soon, and I hope you’ll enjoy the next video even if it’s not grizzly related. Harry, Be sure and “Subscribe,” and I see ya on the next one.🤙

@MichaelEd
@MichaelEd Год назад
I put some time, not a whole lot, but so far it fires up, idles, and runs pretty good. Yeah, that’s what I’m doing also. Rebuilding the oem, but until then this aftermarket was priced to good to to try. 👍
@Tazman1966
@Tazman1966 Год назад
@@MichaelEd I appreciate the quick response. Yeah, I believe I'll do the same. Fuel seems to go bad quick these days with more ethanol in them. A backup wouldn't be a bad idea.
@MichaelEd
@MichaelEd Год назад
@@Tazman1966 for sure. Best practice I’ve found is shut off fuel and run it the carb outta gas. If you can get non ethanol fuel I would definitely do that. Ethanol blended fuel is garbage for anything other than daily driving vehicles. Thanks for commenting, more grizzly stuff soon. Until then I hope you enjoy my other videos. ✌️

You skipped over the exhaust heatshield removal and your tricks to get the throttle cable out, nothing important lol Update Feb 4 '24. It was way easier to remove the tank then deal with the heat shield and wrestle with the throttle cable. Just look for a different video it was easy to find
