talking OUT of buying... both?.. so, what are they talking IN instead?.. (looks like they are just having some sales plan which doesn't include yamaha)
Rather than showing random footage while mentioning the features you showed us some useful dynamics of the bike. Thanks for the comparison between two obvious choices, mine is the XSR. Good one.
like the old style seat that will be back in 2025. better bigger IMO. cut the passenger pedals are normal vs that sill long peg that can't be adjusted.
I thought I wanted an XSR until I sat down on one. I’m not a big or small guy (5’ 10” 200lbs) and that seat felt terrible. Opted for a Triumph Bonneville instead and haven’t looked back since.
The ugly tree comment hurt a little but, I will admit I prefer the classic round headlight. Would you say one is more comfortable than the other? Xsr looks abit more leaned forward? Heavier on the wrists? Thanks for a great review! 👍🏻
Hy there! Can you let me know if I will be able to ride the bike well with my height? I have 170 cm tall and inside leg is 77 cm. I am 75 kg and i am not sure how much the bike will lower adding that weight. What's your opinion? Thank you!
XSR900 is 20% cooler: round headlight is insta-win. and both of them lack of 2 tumblers with arrows (that iphone-on-a-mount is a joke... bad one...) also, personally I don't like modern "humped" fueltanks, so even changing the headlight on 09 can't fix it in my point of view.
Back in the day, I had a Yamaha XS1. I got the bike 2nd hand from a fellow rider. It was a 1970 model and talk about bare bones. Drum brakes front and rear, no electric start- kick start only, no gages or turn signals. I had so much fun with that bike. It had a 650cc parallel twin motor and put out about 50hp. I wish you could still get them bare bones and just add what you like.
Sorry I think big fat lie "if you dont like MT headlight you can just change it" A lie I think because I see NO ONE offering any other headlight! SHOW us even one? One more thing about the XSR I just read that Yamaha Japan is offering a Cafe fairing for the bike color matched! The bad thing is it is fork mounted NOT the premium frame mount type which would be SO SO awesome!!
Great review by a fellow Canuck!!! I have a 22 xsr900 and love it for all the reasons you mentioned. I was on the fence between the MT and XSR...when I heard the new XSR was coming to Canada in December of 2021 I called and was first in line on the wait list. I did not get it until August of 22. We'll worth the wait. Can't wait until spring!!! Love your channel. All the best in 2023!!!
The comparison is very similar to the MT09 vs the Tracer 900. The swingarm's length has a huge impact, and IMHO for the majority of riders simply makes it faster, because you can put that horsepower down to the road while keeping the front end down.
From what I have observed, if you want a hooligan bike, MT09 - if you want a great neo-retro and a great sport ride, go the XSR. Horses for courses. Love the retro look and it seems a good handling bike with that great triple engine of Yamaha's.
The MT 09 headlight has grown on me.. I liked the previous version a lot, but this one is quirky enough for me, I'm happy that its not a round headlight actually
Am 63 and 6 foot 3 and 280, I felt more comfortable on the mt09 as dar,as,sitting on it...the dealer said it was very unpredictable abd I might better enjoy a z900rs or z900 rs se. I have yet to ride any of them.
I really wanted the XSR but I'm leaning more towards wanting to do more miles comfortably. Also not a single dealership within 100 miles has one so that helps.....
I own the MT09 and would pick the XSR900. The riding position and the more stable behavier is what I'd like. But the tank of the XSR is sometimes in the way when changing gears or foot braking, when you have long legs.
I bought my son the xsr125 as a learner , i was after another bike aside my Streetbob Harley and liked the MT07 it was good and price was good too, then he asked me to try the new Ducati Monster so i did and quite liked it and its a good bike all but a few little things that got to me, but that didn't matter as it would be his when he passed his test which he has. I then went and got the dealer to give me a 5 mile test ride on their new bike and i said yes this is the second keeper bike, Blue/gold such a nice machine to look at and ride, ok seats a little bum achey, and steering locks not there, this is where the Monster wins, but thats it in my opinion the monster engine is on your leg and 100 degrees in the summer you feel it, starting in cold XSR is on the button Monster takes like 3 goes to wake the lazy sod up. Basically tried the 900 as i loved the 125 so much even though its a new design and i did not get on with the XSR700 mainly due to the awkward key position and display reflecting the sun. XSR900 2022 model absolute gem just had 600 mile service today. Looking forward to another 50k or more until they ban petrol
I love the look of the XSR, but I am old. Probably too old for the MT09! I am also tall (188cm, 6'2"), with a 34" inseam and I often find these bikes a little cramped for my old hips. I guess that is why I prefer the big adventure bikes. Thanks for another great video! Dave 🇨🇦
Because I passed age 40 some time back, I'm probably an XSR guy. Alternately, I've sat on a Z900RS Cafe and that machine is very appealing, although being a previous Z900 owner, I don't like what they did to the cams, ECU, exhaust, and 6th gear ratio on the RS. The bubble fairing on the Cafe model would provide some smooth buffet-free coverage to remove a little fatigue, without looking like a dust bin or jacking up insurance rates with side panels. Good review! It's nice to see a middle aged perspective on current bikes. By the way what is your height and inseam, if you don't mind sharing? I want to know about how folded up my longer legs would be on these models. XSR fix would be adding about 1.5-inches of foam to the seating area (at least for taller riders). It would reduce the scooped look of the seat, unfold the knee bend somewhat, stop the butt from crying in pain, and make the one-piece seat look better overall I think.
I'm 53 just bought the 2023 MT09 SP. It's a comfortable ride found it better than the 2024 standard. Love the pickup this bike delivers and you can go on long rides with this beast.
can't imagine a passenger being comfy with that peg arrangement that can't be lowered. I see 2025 went back to normal pannier seat and pegs !! They're catching on. Now it needs a 5" tft.
Good info to know, thank you. Does anyone know how the two compare as far as aftermarket accessories availability and average cost? Things like wind screens, hand guards, tail bags, saddle bags. I wish the 09 came with cruise control without having to get the sp model, very disappointing but that's not a huge deal. One thing I have noticed is that the xsr seems like its not as common as the 09 is around my area
