Interestingly, I rode the new XSR900 and MT10 SP (new gen) the same day back to back. MT10 SP was first and I noticed it was massively better than the old gen. For reference, I test rode the old gen twice and didn't like it at all. The new gen has much better tech, cool intake noise, comfortable, SP suspension felt good, up/down quickshifter was nice but still felt heavy and cumbersome to me. Hopped on the XSR900 and everything felt tighter and more direct. More playful, less bulky, still very comfortable, stock exhaust has a nice note to it, tech just as good as the MT10, and I liked the look better. Outside of the additional power and possibly a little more comfort for long distance touring, I saw no reason to go for the MT10 over the XSR900.

XSR isn't under-powered. And with that bombshell: money is saved on tires, insurance, fuel, oil, potentially service costs. I bet some aftermarket upgrades are going to cost less, like a header pipe. There's about one 1L naked bike that rides the ragged edge of diminished returns for cost, that being the GSX-S1000. Everything else (MT-10, etc) cost a LOT more to get that 5%-of-the-time thrill when the cops aren't looking.

That QShifter makes another Sale! The Twins are Thumpy.. not very rev happy like the triple. Somebody needs to do a test in the quarter mile.. the QS has to be worth half a second? Some transmissions can't be shifted very fast to boot. How does the XSR900 w/QS match a liter bike without?
@That1J1
@That1J1 7 месяцев назад
@@markhall3434 quick shifters imho are a matter of convenience more than anything unless you're doing some serious competitive racing. Anything that is not a liter bike is not going to compare to a liter bike, they are made completely differently from ergonomics to engine and throttle design. If you're doing track days for fun the XSR is nice to get out on and open up, but that is about it. You can ride it fairly aggressively, but if you're going harder why not get the MT or something designed for racing instead?

XSR 900 has my vote. The lack of wind protection on a naked bike doesn’t bother me unless I do more than 20 mins on the highway. Which isn’t where I want to ride regardless of wind protection. Multi day trips with my buddies where we spend most of our day between 30-80mph on back roads, I’ve never wished I had wind protection. I ride a Triumph Speed Twin 1200 and I ride it rather spiritedly (Ohlins suspension helps).

With the additional weight saving over an MT10, which is around 20kg, and 25hp difference, it makes for a more enjoyable bike for me personally. i agree the scroll wheel on xsr900 is a nightmare, but it doesnt affect the look or the riding. it wont affect your choice of motorcycle. set your settings and you never have to use it again. love my xsr900 -22 and i cant find more "bang for the buck" on the market today. I tried the mt-09....no, no and no. If they made a zx750 -92 with better engine and everything modern like the xsr900 then maybe....if you dont like xsr900 in the naked bike category then you are probably more into sportsbikes or touring bikes. It is a top contender for sure for the price you pay. If i had a "no limit budget" i might go for some ducati with 200hp but I'll look like a clown when a better rider pass me on a slower bike. You cant buy riding skills but you can learn them over time.

First off no disrespect meant. You younger guys do complain too much about such trivial details. What is available to you today should make you appreciate and not whine with weakness. I ride today looking back to yesteryear. My first big bike was my 84’ GPZ 1100 green monster. We thought that was the shit then, I was all of 19 years old. I’d head out to the twisties and grind metal. I’d like to see a kid who rides a gixer do the same on the GPZ .. not. What I’m saying is I just bought a cbr1000r and couldn’t be happier. Nothing is perfect but compared to the old days the display or a scroll button really isn’t worth the mention. Just ride the bike.

I wanted to like the Tracer. Then I felt like they took an MT-09, threw away 90% of it, and put the CP3 into a massive, heavy, complex, too-touring and not-enough-sport result. Oh it's good. It's sporty. It's quick. But compared to its naked bones, it's quite a bit muted. I was hoping for a Yamaha version of a MV Agusta Tourismo Veloce. A light, sporty, leg-room, more comfortable, more distant capable 85% MT-09 with identical horsepower. It's not. It's like a MT-09 trying to out-FJ the FJ1300.

What if someone pulled a trick on you and somehow swapped a XSR900 that looked identical in every single way, but had been totally gutted of all the TC, power mode, ABS, IMU, and otherwise aids that are baked in, and you rode it thinking all that stuff was there to give you a secure ride and you felt so assured about the ride..... up until you learned what had happened? This is what I've often wondered. How much of the user experience people have with these techno-bulky bikes they think is all the aids, and not the actual hardware? Anyway. YES to small, dark and lame TFT screens. Look at Suzuki, you can read theirs from the International Space Station. And YES to the goofy clicker wheel. I though Yamaha got burned enough with the dumb, flimsy switchgear on the former MT (would you like a horn, or a signal? Just take a gamble) to keep doing ridiculous stuff like this clicker wheel. Yamaha, look at the excellent stuff BMW did with their roller/rocker selection wheel at the thumb and forefinger on the left side. THAT is how a menu gizmo should work.

Hi chase , I have a BMW 1250GS Adventure Rallye 2022 , I am new to bikes and I'm thinking of getting an mt10 but I'm concerned that I will miss my GS , I could get an XSR900 as a second bike , any thoughts ??

I would not give a rats ass about the screen to be honest. I have clocks on my XJR1300 and that's what I'm used too and probably prefer. I'd like numbers in a review too. How much does the MT10 use? When does it give you the warning, how much left in the tank? How much does a tank take? How is it to commute on? Can you get to the spark plugs easily? How about the oil filter? I love to ride my GSX1100, but I have to remove the headers to get to the oil filter... That's something I never ever want to deal with if I buy a new bike...

The Xsr900 has a really nice clean, oldschool look. It is so sexy. The new xsr900 GP with the front cowl looks absolutely amazing and I love the sound of the 3 cylinder reving up.

I want to ride one of these so bad, coming from a mt-10 but haven't had it for a handful of years, haven't ridden since I sold it. This bike is beautiful. Big fan of the Z900 as well. Wonder if the Z900 cafe would compare, don't think you mentioned it.

Whilst the Z900 is heavy, it looks awful. No fancy electronics which most nakeds have now, its expensive, and doesn't compete with the likes of the MT09 SP, 890R and 765RS. The RS Z900 is only really for poodleling around on, very under powered, in4 is lack luster and no modern amenities. For me, the 1200 Speed twin was a better bike than the Z900 RS.
@PDillz
@PDillz 5 месяцев назад
@@inked-96 is there no head to head for these two bikes? There's no way I believe the Z900 doesn't compete with the mt-09. Doesn't the Z make more on paper so even if it's heavier it should make for somewhat of a even playing field. As far as the looks I guess to each their own, I love the looks and I'm not the only one who thinks that. One of my best friends got a naked Z900 because it looks so good to him.
@inked-96
@inked-96 5 месяцев назад
@PDillz MT09 is a better bike. Don't get me wrong, the z900 is good but inline 4's are dying and have been for years. Z900 doesn't come with most modern amenities like quickshifter up n down, corner abs, cornering traction control, no decent suspension, no cruise control and yet still demands a high price... it's one of the heaviest in it's class, it's near on a 1000cc not a 900, it's not a middleweight bike... 765RS 890R Mt09/SP Are all better bikes and similarly priced if not cheaper. What you get with the Z900 is reliability and aggressive looks.. that's about it. If im paying 13k for a bike, I expect it to compete with the competition which it doesn't.
@inked-96
@inked-96 5 месяцев назад
@PDillz z900 makes 125hp and 98nm. 210kg. MT09 SP is 193KG, 118hp and 92nm. I always found a triple to be a happy medium. I'm just basing my opinion. We ride what we like... no one makes a bad bike, just some are better than others in our own view. Have a good day.

About the sound of the MT10, despite it being amazing there are two other bikes that can top the 4 inline cross plane: The Aprilia V4 and the Ducati V4. Sorry ahah

Had 2 MT10"s (The first was a 2020 that was) stolen) Got a 2021 MTo9 and sold it at 600 miles. I put heated grips and small wind screens on all of them. I liked the sound and power of the MT10, and the way it runs the twisteys . And the fact that you can get a comfort seat makes it so much better for the longer two or three day rides. I recomend gettting a 20170thru 2022 MT10 (and putting on a shift tech auto blipper) is the way to go.

I bought the new gen '21 mt09 last year and then found a screaming deal on a '18 mt10, you know how that goes. I can't keep them both, VERY tough decision but I'm leaning towards the mt10. I watched till the end, I think you've helped me make my decision.
