Really enjoyed this performance. The toms sound great. Felt there could have been a bit more bass drum in the mix. Maybe there could have been a bit heavier sound on the bottom end. Just my preference. Mr. Viccaro seems to use an 18" kicker a lot. Makes me feel like I do not need to upsize from the 18" on my kit to a 20 or 22". Very loose hands all the way through. He is one of my favourite drummers. Always look forward to seeing his latest work.

Based on comparing it to my own drum set ( same Yamaha series) I would say 18”(!) bass drum, 10,12” toms, 14,16 floortoms. It looks as if his racktoms are mounted quite high but it’s because of the small bass drum . If you look closely the bass drum has 8 lugs, bigger bass drums in these series have 10 lugs. And you can also hear ( and see) that it’s a bass drum with closed front head.

Inspiration is generally different to basing your life off of someone like say Dave Weckl. Who knows, it might be this guy's hero / biggest influence. I bet some things that influence you show up in your own behaviour too, a bit like how you judged him for playing.... really well? 🤔

Great. But kind of doing what Weckl was doing 25 years ago, but with a little less finesse. Just watched Steve Gadd on another Yamaha video, a short, simple solo, but with so much feel, so much groove, and so much space. This guy has certainly got the chops, but I know which video I'll watch again.
