Thank you so much for watching and always being so kind EK. I'm glad your still sticking around here while I shut my self up like a mad scientist for 6 month or a year at a time. Hahahaha I really appreciate it bro. luckily Ive got things set up in a way now that it should be easier for me to build and mod and film things by a exponential amounts. life though its watching and it throws the wrenches as soon as you get ready to go. I got this I got no choice now but to do it. ;)
I remember my elementary school band teacher had a pair of these at school. This woulda been the 80s. He said "they're just crappy bookshelf speakers but everybody loves them." Excellent video Clemmy, great to see ya.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to write a kind comment EM. I never saw too many people using them at all and never got to listen to actually try them out. Grew up around music makers, studios, etc... most used big live room speakers like JBLs and Alesis, or generic looking woodgrain monitors on the desk? You look at pictures of the muscle shoals sound now its got ns10s... Naw, I can give you a 100% eyewitness account them wasn't in there back in the day. (early 90s) That being said. I like um pretty good as studio reference monitors. The midbass thing they do is really something but maybe auratone C5 got it just the same? I shall see.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment EC. Yeah it got me like a tractor beam from looking at mixing headphones and tutorials... seeped in and took over the feed, took over my thoughts. now its gone? no ns10s in the feed. ha ha ahahahah ;.)
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to write such a kind comment AWM. I always love to hear it when someone is soaking up the info. AWESOME!
Heyyy Bro! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment Petey. All the Rockstars were going to Japan. Hahaha! I'm sure there is some kinda Latin name and medicine for folks that exhibit the obsessive and manic traits displayed in this video? But, Music folks... knows how it is. ;)
Excelente video! ¡Probalo y me contás!
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment TTS. Oh I love peavey speakers and amps in general Great Stuff! All the guys I know that play loud in live settings use the big peavey horn cabs with the black widow speakers. That speaker is great for getting mean tight sound from flubbier or very powerful bassy guitar amps (like SRV did with the big frame jbl speakers), but you can take the same black widow speakers put um in a ported cab and run sound for a hiphop concert? In fact that little Marshall amp I used for the sound demo of the black LesPaul jr. I opened it up and somebody had stuffed a peavey blue wonder 8 in there... no wonder it was rockin so damn hard.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment JI. Yeah its a funny deal with the ns10s. The best worst speaker of all time. Hahahaha Im just glad they dont sound as horrible as everyone acted like they did. Im overall very happy with them for making music but I dont think I would just listen to them at high volume for fun unless I was drunk... Ill blow um up then. LOL
got mine from eBay the ns10m tbh not a difference mixing with the studio ones and i went down the rabbit hole of the amplifier just get anything that works wit the speakers you don't have to get a vintage one
The NS-10 is the algorithm version of an earworm, now all of us who watched JUST this video on them are going to get inundated with all the videos you got hit with before. :) (oh crap you just said that very thing at 10 minutes in!)
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment RT. Yeah, I got it somehow looking for mixing headphones and watching mixing tips and documentaries and ......... NS10 mania! just for me. Hahahaha I'm glad though I found them to be really quite useful but not so horrible like I was told.
yeah I had a same kind of trip with yamahas. Then I found out about ns-615. bought them for like 250e from evil-bay. These are same speakers with same parts as ns10 but cabinets are identical pair. you know like basically these are two left side ns-tens
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment NN. Great INFO! thats a good side step there sir. Very clever. I dont really know how or why this got me like it did but I had to check them out for myself... couldnt let it go.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment PC. I'm definitely gonna do something with that box of auratone speakers. I got a vid recorded a few months of completely reconing a totally blew out into peices speaker using a only sheet of construction paper glue and a redbull can no BS. I build a box for it and put it on a tube amp cranked up to 7. That should be getting edited sometime in the next... ??? hahaha no promises on time only product. anyway I got some other ideas brewing for speaker mods experiments and stuff.
I personally appreciate the sound of closed-box, mid-forward speakers like the NS10. However, I think they've been excessively hyped, comparable to the Waves plugins phenomenon. In my perspective, the NS-10's ascendancy to fame was more due to historical circumstances than its inherent sonic superiority. There are other speakers from the same era that offer similar or even superior qualities but haven't received the same attention. Take, for example, the 3-way Grundig Box 650, which I incorporated as an upgrade for my NS-10M. It surpasses monitoring capabilities while being significantly more affordable. I'm confident there are more examples underscoring this point, but the Grundig Box 650 is one I can vouch for.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to write such a thoughtful and helpful comment JGF. I agree with your thoughts and findings very much. I personally cant understand how many a person that comfortably listens to airpods and bluetooth mini speakers and music on cellphones (like many consumers do) could say oh my gawd these ns10s sound sooo awful i cant mix on them it hurts me. They sound pretty decent compared to the general consensus. "historical circumstances" and human nature is the key to all of it I reckon? Thanks for the heads up on grundig 650s. Im gonna try to do something cool with that box of auratone speakers but forst i gotta try a normal set of those and see if I understand why they show up in spades around all the top guys like the ns10s.
@@heavymetalATC Interestingly enough, I also own a pair of AirPods (Pro MK2, to be specific), and I find them quite enjoyable. Admittedly, the sound profile differs significantly, and, controversial as it may sound, I believe the "Pro" designation is justified. They genuinely prove valuable in a mixing context, but that warrants its own discussion. Auratones, or more commonly Mixcubes nowadays, share certain similarities with NS10s. To be more precise, they intentionally embody the "mid forward" concept and take it to a whole new level, as one would expect from a single midrange driver in a closed box. They reproduce even less bass than NS10s, practically nothing above 10k, providing even more of brutal honesty for the most crucial slice of the spectrum: the midrange. This also means they are easier on the ear. In my experience extremes of spectrum are second only to excessive listening volume in terms of strain on the ear. Another advantage is that the absence of a crossover, coupled with a single driver, eliminates phase shifts, resulting in higher accuracy in the time domain. Also, a single driver, approaching an ideal "point source“, excels at rendering phantom sources. It's quite amusing, though, since they are often used in mono setups. I eagerly anticipate your, I'd imagine inevitable, video on the horrortones. P.S. Have you contemplated that egg crates might not significantly contribute to acoustic improvements? :)
Thank you for watching Starcade and dayum you got a sharp eye. I think you know exactly what it is. Hahahaa I really need to put some damn knobs on it do a setup and demo. life though its got them wrenches and it likes to start throwing them. I been beating rusted wheels off a dodge ram with a giant hammer and switching seized drum brakes and pressing ball joints in with 40lb c clamp for free cause ima need help with some stuff later myself... and thats the actual on what i really be doing out here from day to day. ;)
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment smarkalet. I say "Super Saiyan!" This is a running joke I had going from a comment made about my appearance from years back its reference to the Anime series Dragon ball Z where a character will basically "hulk out" or go berzerk and their hair turns gold and giant and crazy looking and as you can tell from the photo where I placed my head on the characters body. I very much resemble this berzerk transformation due to no choice of my own. Hahahaha Hey id cross the street if I saw me coming I get it. LOL
Nobody listens to NS-10's... We fight them in order to combat nasty Mid range! You can save a lot of money and get any crappy speaker that sounds equally horrible to the NS-10's, in order to get control of the Mid frequencies. If you get anything to sound good on NS-10's, it will sound great anywhere. That is the only reason we use them!
Thank you for watching and taking the time to write a comment NM. Ultimately I agree with that it did seem to me though that there were extreme exaggerations of how "horrible" the ns10 sounds. I guess its that way with everything? I listened to music on them quite a bit to acclimate my ears to the speaker and train them on the sound for reference and they werent sooo bad. I do fine them useful as heck on that low mid punch though setting compression and picking kick trigger samples a breeze...
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment lowdt. Well Its another rabbit hole for me to jump down??? hahaha I might have to see if I can make my way into a good set for cheap. Any model you prefer?
Hahaha Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment SI. I though long and hard about it and I suppose a person with enough determination and the resources could very well get it done. Chris Lorde Alge did it for me luckily. Hahaha otherwise id have been screwed proper. I do plan on doing some experiments with speakers and monitors though.
