That speaker on, off and auto thing is extremely versatile. You can switch speakers off without plugging something into the headphone socket, and you can keep them on too, even when headphones are used - all this in addition to the standard auto on/off dependent on inserting headphones or not. This is very useful if you're on stage and you want lineout to house PA, plus headphone jack out to monitor speakers(s) plus internal speakers as additional monitors. Very cool!
Every retailer marketing the 125a Fails to inform their viewers that the usb audio interface has been removed in this model. Is there a reason you failed to mention it? this will be a deal breaker for a lot of people. I just hope they don't find out After they make their purchase. Disappointed that Sweatwater fails to mention this.😞
As a newbie considering the 125a, what won't I be able to do without this feature? I assume playing the audio and recording it digitally via USB? It's curious as I think recording the audio digitally should still be available via the app?
Sweetwater's listed features includes: "USB to host enables MIDI connectivity with your USB-equipped computer or iOS device." Is that not what you're talking about?
I admit I am not a pianist nor expect to be. However I have been working with audio and video mixers a lot over the past couple of years and looking to upgrade our very old digital keyboard to some thing brand new that I can get great audio and stereo output that I can send to our audio mixer and or ATEM mini Video mixer. I have no need for mixing internal to the piano. It will not be used outside of a stationary church setting so for me after watching the pros and cons of this issue on youtube videos I am not worried about their change. I do like the stereo 1/4" outputs. I can definitely use those in what I am working with. I would think that with all the external mixing systems and software available today for considerably less than in the past, being able to do so internally may have been important to a small group of individuals and not cost effective. let the individual do it with an app or external mixer. Not supporting their decision but trying to understand it.
@@keitHarmel the manual even says it works with Smart Pianist. when you hook it up, the ipad say this device not supported. it works fine with my p125. i just got a p125a and it doesnt work
When I try recording with this piano in Protools. It doesn't sound like this at all. It sounds more like a toy or a mixture of a guitar and piano. Do you know how I can fix that?

Hello, great question. So there is no built-in audio interface in that piano. You can get send MIDI data over USB without any drivers, however you will need a host program such as a DAW to receive that data and create sound. Hi, thanks for your interest! Absolutely, the P-125a can be used as a USB-MIDI controller for virtual instruments such as Analog Lab. You would just need to connect it to your computer via USB and download Yamaha’s USB-MIDI driver. If you happen to have hardware synths with a MIDI In DIN connection, please note that the P-125a wouldn’t work for those, since it doesn’t have a MIDI Out DIN - just the USB. Hello, I am looking to purchase a keyboard as I can't fit a piano into my small condo. I've played piano for a long time but I haven't had access to one in many years and I am rusty. I am looking for something that sounds and feels like a piano with some resonance to the sound. I am just using it to practice, get into piano playing again, compose and record my compositions, etc.. Is there a software program I can use with this keyboard that will record music as I play ( write the actual music for me so I don't have to actually write my own sheet music)? This is just a hobby so is this the right keyboard for me?

I have just discovered a small problem on the P-121/125 range which is actually very irritating for me. The record mode only lets you record two tracks separately if you are not in layer or split mode. Bass can only be used in split mode, so forget about recording a bass line, then say a vibes melody (which I do a lot on my old P-255) because they must be recorded simultaneously.
There is another possible fault with these models. On my P-121, the audio over USB function ceases working every now and then. If I switch the piano off, then back on, the audio works immediately again, so I do not believe that the cable or the device (typically my mobile phone) are the problem. Could this be the reason why the P-125 production was stopped, and an identical model lacking audio over USB (the P-125a) was introduced? The glitch doesn't bother me too much, and I still prefer having the audio over USB. I'm happy with my purchase of a P-121. It is the most portable DP with a graded fully weighted action, and it is inexpensive.
So is there a switch that will turn off the onboard speakers and allow you to connect via audio out ports to a mixer. Current digital keyboard (fairly old) is full time internal speakers while simultaneously sending to the mixer. The problem with that is that the pianist isn't always aware of their volume and it can be too soft going to the mixer where we have to crank it up getting distortions. Thanks.
Hey Lotchik1, great question! The P125 does have the ability to turn off its built in speakers. I agree that this is pretty key to being able to use this with an external sound system! La única diferencia es que el P125a no tiene interfaz de audio integrada por USB, como sí lo tiene el P125. The only difference is that the P125a does not have an integrated USB audio interface, the P125 does.
@@titusxwatson Yes it's a big downgrade. They should have at LEAST added an aux in port to be able to stream audio in to play along with; are there any P-125 you can exchange it for?

So what’s ur problem. Just cause u don’t like the keys everybody shouldn’t buy it? What r u special. You know everything. I happen to like the slipperyness if the keys. Allows me to do faster runs etc. I don’t see the presenter having any problems with keys.
I have the P121 from Sweetwater a few years ago. It is an amazingly realistic-feel keyboard and very good tones and also very good bass/piano key split (mediocre other features though compared to any keyboard-arranger...). Is there also a P121A now? Is there a list of the changed features of the "A" P125A compared to the original P125? My biggest complaint about this keyboard is the bad design of the physical angles on the sides & top because it fails the pencil or paper test: set a pencil or piece of paper on top of the keyboard and they will slide right off onto the floor, very annoying.
The Yamaha P-125a is the EXACT same instrument as the P-125/121 except they have REMOVED the audio interface built into the USB port. It is a massive downgrade, not sure why Yamaha has done this. So now you can no longer stream audio into the piano from a device (play along with RU-vid, backing tracks etc) and you can no longer easily record audio/videos with just a USB cable, sending it directly to a device - instead you now need to use audio cables from the LR out ports to an external audio interface. If you have a P-121, you have a better version of the 125a (or 121a if they release that with the same features missing)
@@islandtony5009 This is great info because I use the audio interface on my P121 all the time and not having it anymore would be crippling! I play music through it's speakers by selecting it as an audio device on my mac and I record piano audio over USB. So there is no way I would get a new Yamaha without the USB audio-through/audio-device capability. (Maybe they got rid of this feature in the new version because there are sample rate limitations in the P121, only allows 44.1kHz, which can cause problems with audio routing and mess up some DAW drivers internally). Hope they restore this now-missing feature in the next Yamaha piano.

I prefer that my pianos don't have any large flat areas on them, so that people don't try to stand drinks on them at gigs. I'm being serious. Pencils can go on the music rest. But don't erase anything over a keyboard. The little bits of rubber will fall between the keys.
@@Zoco101 vast majority of pianos are home or studio use rather than gigs. Simple to solve for gigs is to make a top cap for flat surfaces. Doesnt work the other way around as easy to make a flat surface. I may likely end up building a new top over this yamaha just so i can have a flat and level surface that things dont slide off of.
