@KTMcaptain
@KTMcaptain 6 лет назад
Alex Johnson he was comparing a 27,000 model, not the base. This video is irrelevant to the base as it has different braking, cornering, and acceleration characteristics; as well as different trick suspension, lightweight wheels, and more powerful motor. Let me sell you on a $40,000 BMW 3 series by driving you around in a $65,000 M3... It's illogical at best, and a deceitful practice.

Update: Ducati has confirmed the fan had failed on the bike we tested, so the 1299 Panigale S wouldn't usually get as hot as ours did.
@DarwinAllen
@DarwinAllen 9 лет назад
***** how can you possibly expect the 1299 to be any cooler than the 899? All Panigales get hot. All that ass-burning heat is coming from that rear cylinder header, not the actual engine / cooling system so the fan wouldn't really make that much difference anyways (plus, if it's getting that hot - it's overheating). These kinds of bikes aren't designed to be sitting around in traffic on. If you want to keep your ass cool and have something to ride in traffic I'd suggest not riding a supersport/superbike. That said, my 2012 S1000RR (sold) made a great commuter as far as superbikes go (the heated grips alone are pretty awesome). If I had the cash lying around for a third bike right now I'd buy the 2015. The 1299 is probably the worst commuting bike out of all the bikes in its class. Awesome bike - I plan to upgrade my 899 to one next year - but it's shit in traffic - even my 899 is friggin horrible in the city.
@DarwinAllen
@DarwinAllen 9 лет назад
***** oh I agree with you and I'm not really taking it to heart / defending Ducati. The bike definitely has its issues - more than just the hot balls situation. They did actually change the heat shield on the header pipe but apparently it's only slightly cooler (aka still gonna roast your ass, lol). I guess for me it's more of something I can live with because I love the rest of the bike so much. I'm no brand loyalist either, I just liked the way the Panigale fit me, rides, looks, etc. I switch brands all the time. But yeah, as someone who lives in the city, I feel your pain having to sit in traffic to get out to the good riding sometimes. I've just learned to time it to go ride before or after rush hour and things are all good - otherwise I just suck it up since the bike is so much fun once I'm past the stoplights :).

***** and you think BMW products don't break down? My old M3's second home was on the back of a tow truck! Also, why would you wait two years for the warranty to expire and the bike to depreciate even more before you swap it for a BMW? Your logic sucks, lol. All these European bikes are expensive to own and maintain. If you're that concerned with reliability I suggest you go buy a Honda.

If you compare apples amd bananas, they're overpriced. Stock Panigale 1299 vs stock R1 would have been more accurate. The price difference isn't that big. If you compare R1M and 1299S, the price difference ain't that big neither.
@robbroy
@robbroy 4 года назад
They seem overpriced but if you keep it well maintained and cared for the Ducati's really hold their value so well. Provided you don't buy new - always much better to get a beautiful 3-4 year old one which has lost a lot of its original purchase price.

I've noticed a lot of people commenting on the R1 as having "not as much mid-range torque as we'd expected". In the review you said "opening the throttle, it doesn't quite unleash overwhelming acceleration"...surely that's a good thing? All reviews I've seen of the Ducati, people say it's too aggressive and not practical for every day road use. It seems the R1 is perfect for that.
@akupehsluarketatAR
@akupehsluarketatAR 8 лет назад
+James Murphy True that.. got a kawasaki Z1000 with fuel controller. that bike is just mental at low rpm its so hard to ride around town.. smooth acceleration are way much better for both street and when you're accelerating out of a corner on the track.
@brandonharrington1422
@brandonharrington1422 8 лет назад
these people dont relaize either that Yamahas fuel maps were created for road use in mind exactly as you said. Thats why the R1 is also the most roadable bike in all these comparisons. Best electronics best suspension and best useability. An ecu flash will give you that all power all the time power curve like the euro bikes

Uhhm.. just for clarification, you do NOT hold the throttle on for the downshifts. You shut off the throttle and begin braking while also downshifting, without the clutch, and it AUTO-BLIPS the engine/throttle. This is "clutchless downshifting". You would never hold the throttle on during deceleration.. doesn't even make sense.
@Hardts
@Hardts 8 лет назад
Well, no.. But you might downshift w/o clutch to get increased power from a lower gear, needing to accelerate in a hurry. Wish my 2003 Duc 900SS could do that. Mind you it doesn't have any driver aids, no ABS, no TC..

I don't ride? Not only do I ride daily (Daytona 675) I work in the bike industry which means I get the opportunity to ride many kinds of bikes. What made you say that? All I'm pointing out is that the r1 does not have more power than the bmw which is what he claimed in the video
@k-lebo6123
@k-lebo6123 8 лет назад
Firstly, I'm neither American nor a highway racer (here in Australia we have EU spec bikes). Nobody said anything about torque but the BMW actually makes more torque than the r1, although the r1 torque peaks lower in the RPM range which gives it an advantage. I've seen quite a few dyno tests and only one put the panigale ahead of the BMW even in EU spec. The highlight of the new R1 is the chassis/handling and superb electronics. All I originally stated is that the BMW has the most outright power, which is true.
@Wolfenkuni
@Wolfenkuni 8 лет назад
+GettingLowWithLebo I think people don't understand the difference between a dyno test and the claimed numbers.... And the problem is that BMW guaranties you the hp while all the others claim they have measured that in there tests. So most BMW will have way more than claimed and the rest has something lower than claimed.....

u misunderstood the quickshifter on downshift. ur supposed to shut the throttle completely before u downshift. on downshift the quickshifter act like an auto-blipper eliminating the need to grab the clutch lever and blip the throttle and minimize the rear wheel wobble, so you can focus on corner entry. it means a lot to average riders on the track and its fun too on the street. it makes u feel like a pro

@il.pirata
@il.pirata 7 лет назад
"It takes much more of a leap of faith to go down without shutting off than going up"? I reckon you might have missed the point of, or don't know how best to use an auto blipper. Quick shifters enables wide open throttle up shifts with no need to clutch or momentarily rolling off the throttle to assist up shifting. Auto blippers enable clutchless down shifting without need for 'rev matching' right hand throttle blips/inputs while also braking. Put simply, brake with your right hand, downshift with your left foot, take the corner. That's it, no need to "shut off" the throttle because you're not on it when you're setting up corner speed and entry. If you can't work it out then you're probably right, it's not for you.

God, these HP claims are so ridiculous. They never tell you that number is to the crank. Put these bikes on a good-quality, calibrated dyno and I guarantee they're in the 170's.
@WZW1982
@WZW1982 7 лет назад
Actually they aren't at all ridiculous. Most of us understand when they say a number that it's crank hp and already have a figure in mind for roughly what wheel hp would be. Crank hp is not at all a meaningless number either. I know my CBR is ~180 crank and 155 dyno. So I know this Ducati is going to be in the 170's to 180's if it has 205 crank, which is HUGE, especially for a bike that weighs less than 400 pounds. Basically, most of us know what a certain power level is going to feel like with a given weight of motorcycle and rider, we don't need dyno numbers, they're pointless.

Vtwins cant make the rpms the inline's can ( well half as many power strokes per given amount of time) also there is less space for more valve area than an inline. Horsepower is a function of rpm and torque. So since the v twin is limited on rpm Its needs to make more torque instead hence bigger engine. It not as efficient as an inline HP wise but makes gobs more torque

i own one of these and have riden em both . keep in mind that both are way too fast to use the power 90% of the time , but the pani , although les then before , will give you a smile even comuting with its awesome grunt and instant throttle . and the guy says the head of the pani is more stable , well i drove r1s since forever and now a duc , but this bike has the least stable head of all of them . not bad for amusement , as it makes you feel like your pushing it like gary McCoy but was that the idea ?

what does shutting off mean in English? does it mean down shift or shifts with out clutch what is it cause I'm confused
@8killstreak

Pulling the clutch i guess
@DarwinAllen
@DarwinAllen 9 лет назад
Steve Irish he's confused. What he MEANT to say (I think) is that you don't have to use the clutch to downshift. The bike will blip the throttle and rev match for you. You wouldn't be doing this with the throttle wide open. If you wanna drop a gear to pass someone or something and use the auto blipper you have to let off the throttle first.

Jacque Noir right, but if you try down shifting with the throttle pinned you're gonna have a bad day. The guy in the video is confused.

It's all personal preference. I wouldn't buy another Yamaha having had a number of bad experiences with their customer services. The Ducati is more special, and I found the r1 to be a very uncomfortable, throttle felt like a light switch and the brakes were very wooden. Buy what you like guys.

Dear Ian Falloon or To Whom It May Concern:Hi ! I'm Andre a Ducati fan! Thanks in advance for taking the opportunity to serve me. I'm sorry to tell you about my difficulties with my Ducati's but I'm not feeling good about this. This story is kinda like the fall of the Roman Empire when they say history repeats itself. But this Ducati Odyssey is unfair to me. Ducati has just gotten away with everything and they've had there way with me and they've just man handled me and I've paid the price and it appears it's not worth it anymore. I feel violated like a women too ashamed to admit she's been raped and ganged banged by a bunch of thugs and hates to admit it was a pleasure getting screwed by all those thugs who gave her tough love. You know her and those thugs have a thing going on! You know that puts her in an awkward position and in juxtaposition to her situation is the similarity between her situation between myself and my 1299 S Ducati. Maybe you may know the pleasures of a slow screw and the consequences but whenever you're done having your fun with me what do you do? If you just can't help yourself? Anyway, you know they say it's a thin line between love and hate. But can you please hear my story and make suggestions for my Ducati story and problems? The 1299 S Ducati Panigale is good product and like a sore dick it can't be beat. However I trust you, and could you please forward this correspondence to a Local Ducati representative or anyone worth mentioning who can make a difference in my life who can give me a case number and is genuinely concerned with my Ducati issues? I just recently purchased a Ducati 1299s Panigale 2016 model and it appears I have been having problems with it perpetually totally shutting off, whenever I feather the clutch to turn, or slow down for a stop sign, or in stop in go traffic on the street or on the freeway. I have not had the opportunity to take it on the track because I don't have a budget for track gear and expenses. Nevertheless my Ducati 1299 S also slips out of neutral into 2nd gear for no reason. I also have to squeeze the clutch all the way down to the maximum to engage it into another gear or into neutral . I feel I can't verify my story because I don't have the money in my budget to purchase video gear to confirm my story and to seek approval from those who should be concerned, because of the high purchase price of my Ducati 1299 S and associated bundled packages and services connected with taking care of my bike. However whenever I go to the ducati1299.com/ducati-1299/23518-1299s-shutting-off.html message blog I see other grievances by other Ducati Panigale 1299 S owners with similar complaints they're all are very disappointed because they can't get any satisfaction from the Ducati dynasty and I'm starting to think that purchasing a Ducati was the biggest mistake of my live. I don't know why numerous Ducati 1299 S Panigale owners would ruin the reputation of the Ducati dynasty and say it's an illusion of grandeur and hoax of an elite motorcycle engineering brand at it's finest but it is what it is. Sometimes you pay for what you get at a bargain price and it's truly a value. Now comparing a Porshe to Genesis just won't do but maybe it just might be better if Porshe doesn't stand and deliver up to it's reputation to it's fan base. But anyway I previously had purchased a 899 Ducati 2015 Panigale that I had numerous problems with it, and it took over 1 year and one month to finally get 2 dealerships to finally fix the clutch and associated parts and equipment, then after it was all said and done. I recently traded in the 899 Ducati Panigale 2015 for the up graded 2016 newer 1299 S model Panigale. But now whenever I take my 1299 S Ducati Panigale to the dealership(s) they state they can't duplicate the problem which is what they said previously about the 899 Ducati Panigale that I owned until they figured it out and repaired it. And as soon as I leave the dealership I'm not even a block away and my 1299 S Ducati Panigale has a history and pattern of shutting down whenever I ride it immediately after I get it back from the dealership(s). And the dealership is closed or I'm too far away to go back again immediately to the dealership and get help and I'm perpetually inconvenienced to bring my bike back into the Ducati dealership to explain my sad life story about my sad 1299 S Ducati Panigale story. I also make other arrangements to have a buddy follow me to the dealership to drop off my bike or to get a ride back home or give me a ride to the dealership to pick up my bike or take a bus or train to get back and forth from from the dealership for transportation and it appears that the dealership is numb about providing me with reliable transportation in the meantime, while my Ducati 1299 S is being repaired or tested or checked out for problems, and it seems like they could give me a loaner bike and I never received my Ducati identification card for a free tow to the dealership. And you know I just can't afford a Ducati shop manual or repair manual or pdf or DVD or USB thumb drive and I doubt the shop manual even would address my concerns that I have regarding my 1299 S Ducati Panigale. I can't find any solutions on Facebook or Twitter or You tube or any books or magazines to help me with my concerns or complaints or problems with my new 1299 S Ducati Panigale. However I have taken my 1299 S Ducati Panigale to Del Amo Motorsports in Redondo Beach, California and Westlake Ducati in Thousand Oaks, California I purchased the bike new on October 7, 2016 from Del Amo Motorsports of Redondo Beach, California. I have perpetually called Ducati of North America and it appears there is no understanding, wisdom, experience and way to get the 1299 S Ducati Panigale problems fixed in the Ducati dealership network or company. At this point I just want another Ducati Panigale 1299 S Panigale 2016 or a 2017, that works without any problems and has a satisfaction guaranteed and I want to enjoy my bike and the ride. I'm looking for a local Ducati representative or anyone to help me with any of my Ducati needs, or concerns that can be addressed immediately. Please tell me how I can get a local Ducati representative or anyone to best accommodate me and my schedule, and respond accordingly, with the goal to make sure that this is the easiest and most pleasant experience I have ever had in my life. I know that whenever you have a leaky roof you call the roofer when it's raining and you can see the rain falling from the ceiling and it creates a puddle and it wouldn't make any sense to call the roofer to repair the leaking roof after the water leak stopped leaking but what can I do in my situation similarly with my Ducati 1299 S Panigale? Just restart the bike and give it to the dealer over and over and say fix it? And the dealership similarly replies accordingly over and over and over that they can't get the bike to act up, nor duplicate the problem just call me when it rains so I can find and see the leak. In my opinion it is just seems fairer to just give me a new 1299 S Ducati Panigale with no problems and stop wasting my time and the associated grief. Again if you have any suggestions please let me know. Enough is enough, this has been a totally unacceptable experience with Ducati. Ducati does not have any RU-vid videos worth mentioning that addresses my Ducati 1299 S Panigale concerns and they don't have certified lessons on any website for Ducati mechanic certification and repairs for Ducati 1299 S Panigale owners.You can call me by phone 323-786-0135You can mail me at:Andre Bolla POB 452734Los Angeles, CA 90045You can email me at :andrebolla@hotmail.com Again thanks again for everything in advance.Wishing you the best during this holiday season.P.S. Again thank you for taking the opportunity to serve me because owning my Ducati has been a living hell and a nightmare! Please turn everything around so that this is a sweet dream. Please give me favor and blessings from Ducati. I'm looking for a Ducati representative and mechanic striving to achieve the best client service and the best client experience. Oh and by the way it's never to late for a new start and another solution is for Ducati to just pay off the loan immediately since they can't duplicate the problems with my bike. You know Ducati has been so unfair and such an ass about everything. What would you do? None of this is making any sense to me. This is crazy! I want to put an end to this because someone could get hurt in an accident if the 1299 S Ducati Panigale shuts down unexpectedly at the wrong place at the wrong time. And I'm not just talking about hurt feelings.Sincerely,Andre Bolla Sent from my iPhone
