Talking about my suspension setup, what I like from my bike, how to test.
My settings right now:
Front
Preload = 3 rings visible
Rebound = 1 click out
Compression = 12 clicks out (soft road setup)
Rear
Preload = lowest notch
Rebound = 1 turn out

I’m five turns in on preload for the forks. One click on rebound and 5 compression. That stops the bounce back. Rear shock softest setting and screw 3/4 turn out. Slows the rear bounce back down a bit.

When you talk about in and out, the setup has S and H marks witch mean Soft and Hard. Can you please share your setup using the S and H language?

Also did you experience any better set up? My bike is so bouncy and annoying. I try a couple set up, but so it didn’t work.

Sure, H = All the way in, S = All the way out.

@@z.scorpion572I have now changed the fork oil, as per my other video, and that helps a lot!

Thanks for the explanation. Looking to try and learn how to setup my own suspension. I'll be watching this video a few more times after I change out my fork oil. Question: What weight oil are you looking at trying. I tend to use mine mainly for track days. My previous bike had 15w fork oil (Ohlins on a Ninja 300). I've heard others mention 10w oil. With full gear I'm at 190 lbs. TIA

I will be looking at either the Rock Oil SVI 10, or the Motul Factory M 10, as both are around double the cSt of the standard Yamaha 01, which is about 14.5 cSt . See how that goes initially. Good luck!

That was a good demo, Michael. I've tried to do the same after watching Dave Moss' video. I've also found the stock R7 suspension to be a little lacking and basic but I've heard it is a small step up from an even more rudimentory MT-07. I've found the stock setup also surprisingly hard at the back with insufficient static sag whilst the front had insuffficient rebound. I'm 5'9" and 72kgs so about 9kgs or so lighter so perhaps the stock suspension is better able to cope with my weight range, if still a little inadequate. For comparison, I've decreased preload at the front by 2.5mm (4 rings visible) and increased compression to 6 clicks compared to your 12 - prob offset by my softer preload. Rebound same as yours at 1 click. For rear, I've gone with 2 clicks softer than stock for preload at the 3rd notch - I may try for 1 notch softer and see if it affects handling. At the moment, the bike tips in very well into corners. For rebound, I've gone for 2 turns, which is half a turn softer than stock.

Great to hear your feedback, I had a good dabble with my SV650 race bike a few years ago, with the right mods and oil viscosity, it was perfect and rebound was lovely, so I'm looking forward to seeing what I can play with over winter. Cheers

@@mikeyjaxxxUpdate - couple of small tweaks: Front: Preload: 4½ rings visible (half turn firmer than my last setting) Compression: 7 clicks (same) Rebound: 1 click (same) Rear: Preload: 1 click softer (from 3rd to 2nd softest setting) Rebound: 1½ turns (half-turn firmer than my last setting. Now same as stock) I think this is about as good as I can get the stock suspension to feel for me for street riding. If I ever get to the track, I'll prob dial up Preload F & R and slightly up the F compression and R Rebound.

Hey man, my r7 is brand new. I put 1000miles on it now. My bike it not fun on highways, it feels unstable and wobbly, is it normal? How do i fix it or just suspension setting should fix this?
@mikeyjaxxx
@mikeyjaxxx 7 месяцев назад
I would ask, what sort of speeds do you experience the unstable and wobbly times. You might want to “soften” up the bike by removing shock and fork preload. And then experiment with the suspension settings, once you have taken a note on the settings as they are today. You might want to reduce the rear Tyre pressure from the stock numbers, Yamaha say something like 42psi, but the Bridgestone recommended pressure is less at 36psi. You could find a local road and make some tests for yourself to see what might help you, take some tools in a backpack so you can make adjustments during the ride too. Just remember at high speeds you may find the smaller weight R7 is just more affected by the wind than others, and make sure your body is relaxed, bent elbows, to try and soak up bumps too and let the bike ride how it wants to over the bumps etc. Have fun and enjoy the challenge of making the bike work for you 👍

Hello, yea mikey is right, i had that at around 180 kmph and it was becauses of rebound, one click less and it is all gone. You could add a bit of preload to the rear as well as it will make the front heavier and more stable. I'm currently at 2 points of the highest preload setting on the rear. I dont ride with a passenger very often but i like to have that front control that high rear preload gives you. On my current settings, i can go 220kmph with no instability but at 100kmph their is like a resonance effect caused by the speed. It doesnt bother me at all since it stabilitz itself after 0.5s when i hit the handlebar heavily. So, not a big deal Check compression, rebound, tire pressure, rear preload, and relax on the handlebars and let the bike live Btw everyone miss on that but you have a tool to ajust rear preload under the seat, dont do it with a flathead screwdriver or it will fk the "ajuster"
