The RD500, RG500 and NS400 were the giant killers of the 80's, and now asking giant prices. Those three and a V-Due and KH750 would make the dream collection.
Yes of course you are right. The 2-stroke bikes of the past are all incredible .....But surely one of the most iconic and that I would like to drive sooner or later is the Mach IV 750.......
An interesting fact about the engine, the barrels were lifted from the rd 125lc,so the squish clearances were not matched, hence differentiating compression and low rpm redline,a bit of gentle porting and getting the compression ratios matched and it would scream way past 10,000,had a gamme 500 stage 3 tuned, hideous power with a frame that wanted to twist under power.good job i am a welder as the frame needed a few repairs.mpg? 10-12 at best, well it's a 2 stroke...you don't worry about gas mileage, just that huge grin on your face when the powerband kicks in.🏍🏍🚀🏍
Bought one brand new off the showroom floor in 1985 ,fast bike the bike would always foul plugs and the two exhaust pipes that ran up under your seat would cook your but on a hot summer day. 135mph got boring after a while traded it off the next year for a new 1986 black and red GSXR750 and had more fun.
You ride these bikes for the emotions that they still know how to exhale after many years and for their grumpy character ......!! If you are looking for maximum performance or excellent chassis, obviously it is better. However the smell emanating from the drains is something sublime.....
If 2 stroke superbikes like rd500,rg500 was build until now i'm believe it's power more than 180hp(maybe 190 or 195hp)near same like 4 stroke 1000 cc superbike and i'm think his speed until 220-230km/h cause 2 stroke engine weight is very light and tiny more than 4 stroke engine construction🙏
@@federicobolognini39 yes that's true mister cause now 2 or 4 stroke be replace with electric motorcycle in my country Indonesia many electric bike scootic it's dominate electric motorcycle but many peoples uses old 2 stroke bikes the reason they using is simply repairing and high brutal power but the other peoples hate cause his smooking poluted and noisy sound😄🙏
@@federicobolognini39 I totally agree with you, I know it's an old 2 stroke generation and timings were not as high as nowadays, I'm not sure ignition had variable timing too, and many other technologies might missing too at that time. But still, I imagined much more power from this legenday engine, anyway it still must be a really cool bike to ride and congrats to own one of these gems ! Sorry for random mistakes, english is not my native tongue.
Yes, my RD 500 is completely stock with a not so low mileage…..and in this video I preferred not push very hard….. Pushing you can reach about 1000 more rev……😬 But is you mount the specific exhausts, is another world…..
