I have a Harley, but I love that bike. If you don't like the Raider, you just don't like good looking powerful motorcycles.

I was obsessed with getting a soft tail HD. Before that, a Low rider but they were discontinued. Imagine a bike that looks more muscular and menacing. Has a slightly chopper look to it with an engine that backs up the claim. Harley Davidson actually had to step up their game because of this bike and the big Vulcan. Remember the 88 cube, the 96? You literally need the screaming eagle package on your softail to keep up with the Raider. And that was my dilemma. But a screaming eagle packaged softail for over 20k. Or just get a Raider for 14k. The extra money wasn’t worth the bragging rights of a name brand.

HD followers are not interested in speed. The rejection of the VRod is evidence of that. I have forever been a huge fan of Indian and HD. But when I rode with Christs Sons in Anaheim years ago...I can remember a lot HD's requiring tear downs and rebuilds. I have sat in living rooms amongst a sea of HD parts and the skeletal remains of a bike being reborn again. Was that a stab at reliability or because of an absolute love and devotion to a bike? That is for you to decide. I love all bikes....metric or American....but HD did the same thing the big truck manufacturers did...they priced them out of reach for the next generation. Remember when you can buy a great truck for less than 20k....now you spend 70k. HD has structured it's availability to the older established crowd. The only people buying HD true cruisers are HD owners trading across. (I say across because HD's have never changed their designs for years and just keep making the same bikes over and over raising the price a little more every year) Younger generations have to settle for low end bikes like the Street series which look a lot like Metric bikes. Or the 883's, 1200's or 48's. But then what happens to that proud new owner? They get goofed on by their own HD brothers and are asks why did they get a "chick" bike? At least Indian offers a nice big cruiser at a lower price point. As far as my personal preference goes....I have been around HD's for years...and it is not the bikes so much....not so much the true HD people that love bikes in general. It is that subset of HD people that are fanatical about HD to the point of hysteria. They have drank the toxic kool-aid from the vat are willing to die with "HD IS THE BEST BUILT BIKE ON THE PLANET!!!! AARRRGGHH!!" on their dying lips. That is what is what drives me away from HD. Just read through the posts on this video...you will quickly see the people that ruin it for everyone. The guys I rode with from Anaheim...those brothers didn't care what you rode...they cared about how you rode. My HD friends I associate with..don't care either. But the squeaky wheel gets the grease and the loudmouths are ruining it for HD....but then again HD is ruining too with their catering to established customers business plan and throwing crumbs and leftovers to the potential customers. I ended up buying a 2017 Raider two weeks ago. It is an amazing piece of machinery. And I will be taken it on trips with my HD friends, my Ducati friends, my FJR friends and my BMW friends. It's not what you ride...

Thats why i buy older harelys and rebuild them. I have maybe 14000 in my bike. Everything is new, the engine has 300 miles on it, i fixed all the issues that harley had, it rides great, is all my own custom everything, and is bought and paid for

That is a sharp bike. I own a H.D. softail. I really find it hard to understand why there is such a rift with Brand VS Brand. Its all about enjoying the ride, isn't it? As I always have said, "It's your ride, do what you want, but be safe and smart". I enjoy Kawasaki's, Triumphs, Yamaha..etc as well. Keep riding and enjoy it. Be Safe.

Sweet, I had a 1900 Stratoliner (the thrid option name you were trying to recall in the video) It was nice, plain basic fairing, nothing but an Ipod port, speakers and hard saddle bags, same color as this one. Loved it. Had a 1700 road * untill some kid nascared right into my rear end at 50MPH and totalled it and almost me. After the Stratoliiner I know ride a sweet and now bad ass Indian Roadmaster with several mods

Thanks for a great show man. I mentioned earlier that I can't ( or am forbidden to ) ride anymore due to cancer. Life is good though. I have found other ways to stay busy and live a positive, happy life. Yer show kinda keeps me in the game and the list of bikes I want grows as I watch you . This one I think would be a nice Bobber. You ? If you have one I wanna see it. I am so ready to go buys a gently used Triumph Bonny. Daughters will kill me but it is safe to say they don't watch you. But this one here is a beast ! Only problem, if I drop it, I can't pick it up. LOL ! Peace, love and thanks for your witness, Cary

In my honest opinion, I think the biggest advantage of being a Harley owner is the ability to accessorize. My first bike was a Kawi (which I loved BTW) and the biggest difference for me was the aftermarket availability of parts. For instance, my Kawi was shaft drive and while I was on a budget so that limited a lot of my options potentially, I didn't see a lot of options for custom wheels. If I went to the local cycle shop to get a part, chances are I had to wait for it to be shipped from somewhere and wait 5-7 business days to get it. Performance upgrades are tricky to "package" so you had to do a ton of research before you executed. Information is much more limited on metric bikes, based on my own personal experience. I now own a street glide. it was always my dream bike. love the way it looks, love the options (electric cruise especially). So, same scenario...I go to the local HD dealer, BOOM, nearly every option I could think of at my fingertips. need a part, no problem, they likely have it in stock to take home the same day. online, even better. custom accessories for Harley, millions, custom accessories for Metrics, dozens. at the end of the day, its all about the ride and the market is full of options to best suit your situation and likes. We are all brothers/sisters on 2 wheels and HD or not, we share a passion for the freedom 2 wheels provides. But, HD has built a brand that people are loyal to and it's not always about the speed.

I loved a friend's Yamaha warrior. I was mad when they d/c that fun beast. I hunted for a year trying to find a new holdover that hadn't been sold in it's last days. in the mean time I took my 1200 sporty to stage 3 and got to ride a 1600 triumph Thunderbird and was putting cash down to pay half upfront and got run off the road by someone not paying attention to the road. I broke my sporty but I broke my back too. now I just dream of riding and get that itch when I hear bikes out. if I had one wish, I'd still be able to ride. I'm hoping to eventually get a Polaris RAZR for trails and hunting

Funny thing about Harley is that they are just now (2014 and up) getting it. You can't have a 1000lbs of motorcycle with wife, luggage, helmets, bags of crap, and yourself propelled by a 65 horsepower engine. You get killed on your first uphill onramp. They have steadily focused on performance these last few years and it shows in every single bike they now sale.( except the poor Sportsters and the street 500 and 750) I tend to like any motorcycle that gets the blood pumping by either looks or performance or hopefully both. Keep up the good vids SRK Cycles.

Yamaha stopped producing the Raider. It is a massive and surprisingly nimble V-twin. Of all the Harley-esque Japanese twins out there, this one looks, sounds, and feels the most awesome. It rocks! Of course not. Metrics bikes are literally Harley clones at a discount. That's how they originated and that's why people buy them. The Metric manufacturers don't deny it. It doesn't make it an inferior or superior bike. It's all preference and budget. Some people wouldn't even fathom paying $20-$40K for a motorcycle. Metrics fill that void. But these days their top line touring bikes are nearly as high

Angel Bowfinger I can only speak for myself but my experience has been that the devout HD fans just go out of their way to belittle any bike that’s not an HD and their respective owners. Like I said, I’m blessed to have several, and I can only say, I love riding...period. HD or any other make has no handle on this love I have. My point is that we should be happy and proud of what we like/ride and quit the trash talk. 😎✌🏽

JC Galiano: Well then we have vastly different experiences. In my experience, HD riders only jestfully make fun of other bikes, the same way we make fun of each other. "Nice Sporty, when you going to get a big boy bike?" or "Need some training wheels for that bike?" I'm not discounting the fact that there are some dickheads in our camp, but I assure you, we're not all, or even most, like that, unless we have to be.

I guess I'll never understand why there has to be friction between HD riders and metric riders. The truth is I like both and would like to own a Harley someday but right now I cant afford the one I would want so , I bought a 2014 Raider SCL and have loved it from day one.

I have a slow 88 inch Harley. What’s so great about fast? I saw an idiot jamming through the gears only to have an old lady come out of a McDonald’s and splatter the poor guy. How should the old lady know he was doing more double the 45mph speed limit? Yeah, I made it to the next stop light first, but did turn back to see if I could help. Going fast was important to him, at least he died doing what he loved.

I don't get the obssession of haters when it comes to speed and Harley. What does Harley killer mean? I don't know 1 harley owner who purchased their bike for purpose of speed. Such a stupid argument from people who wish they had a Harley. With most speed limits under 50 on streets, 65 on highway... How much speed do you need over 90. But whatever you have to tell yourself as you compare whatever it is to a Harley. I ride a fatboy and love all bikes but the constant argument of "my bike is faster than your Harley" is getting old and makes zero sense.

piquat1 You can upgrade anything. But nobody goes into a hd dealer thinking i cant wait to race light to light. Performance parts are sold for every thing, free world of consumerism. I have an s & s carb and straight pipes. Bike is 22 years old and runs like a clock. All i do is change fluids in spring or fall (people debate whats better time) As long as the power pulls me into seat and gets me up to 60-80mph quick im happy.

I actually like the Breakout , looked at the 2018 which is the improved version , but decided I couldn't get rid of the RAIDER & the versatility it gives with comfort... power...Quality .... came with 210 rear but I run 240 & because of the front end geometry the bike is a great handling bike for a cruiser . If I want to go fast I take my Yamaha R1 to the mountains . Yes in my 55 years of riding I've crashed to many times & I've hurt my asshole . Yes I'm a 70 year old child when it comes to my bikes !!!! I know bikes & yours & mine are not the best out there but , a bike can be made better with a good rider . Stay upright because downright hurts .

I own a Dyna and love the metric cruisers but it's difficult to compare them because there's a lot to take into consideration. A lot of them don't even have a 6th gear. The Vulcan does but in a way I would consider them beginner bikes with that positive neutral feature. But I think they're the best looking bikes next to Harley's. Next you'd have to consider fit and finish which I think Harley does better than anyone. Also pricing as expensive as Harley's are any of the competitors are either the same or more. I will say second hand market I'd buy a metric because Harley's hold their value and they list used bikes for the same price or higher than new.
@nicstr28

Not really. Tons of used Harleys with no miles from the wannabe cool crowd are everywhere killing the resale value. But then again....a "biker" doesn't choose a bike by the resale value. Posers do.

love it when harley bigots get all bent up when their choice of tractors gets challenged. I can't count how many letters to the editor contain questions like: " my $28,000 harley won't run right, speedo sucks, clutch grabs ,electronics shorted etc"....with the usual response...contact the dealer ...then the bikes sits in their shop for weeks, more issues after, and mega bucks gone....that Raider will be tearing it up for a decade without much more than an oil change and rear tire replacement...but hey, spend your money on what makes you happy...

"most girls" who don't know shit, you mean. The ones you randomly find at a bar, who are probably fooled by a leather vest full of novelty patches, and a cheap chain wallet. The ones who would be just as impressed if you showed up in a Dodge Neon with a spoiler and fake stick-on hood vents, because "he's totally a street racer!" Are you really going to brag about that? Pretty much all the girls I know, who DO know bikes, can tell very quickly between genuine H-D, and a mettric wannabe. For one, the sound is unmistakable, if you're running proper V&H pipes ( like you should be, no matter what you're riding ). And they'll take the Harley, every time. Every. Single. Time. Fun fact: You know that "vibration" that so many people talk shit about Harley for having? How many of them are women? Think about it...

No. It's not an other imitation. It's another approach to a similar purpose bike. Or can you name a HD with an aluminium frame? With an engine that doesn't hobble? With a central rear suspention? Hovever. I own a 1900 Midnight that has the same engine in it. I absolutely love the torque this engine has. Sadly the gearbox doen' share this love and just gave up at 20'000 km.
@Hero_of_Legend
@Hero_of_Legend 6 лет назад
Um...all the 2018 Softails have central rear suspension. Monoshock. And basically every Softail I've ever known of, has had a counterbalanced engine ( no real noticeable hobble ). As for aluminum frame, they could if they wanted to. There's just no real need.

Harley is on its way out unless it can draw in a younger crowd. Who in there right mind want to pay double for a bike with less power , less reliability, less handeling prowress, only be old not and stubborn not the young and economiclly educated. I owened a harley it was the most unreliable pos I ever owned. i have also owned a raider , change a few cosmetics and it is one f the ( if not the most) powerful feet forward cruiser available on the market. I am now back on a gsxr 1000 and loving it every time I am on the saddle.It stops, handles, and out accelerates( when the roads are clear of dangerous cagers) like no other bike available....oh did ai forget to mention reliability, if any toy is not reliable it isn't worth SHIT.

I’ve been doing the Harley thing a few years now but honestly for around town I’d like a raider. I have a road King and for 800 mile days there’s nothing finer in my opinion. But it’s a pig in town, can totally be done but something a little more nimble would be nice. I’ll never get rid of my road King but there’s no law saying you can’t have rides for different moods :)
